I have had an Oura ring for about 10…
I have had an Oura ring for about 10 months and have liked the product. However, recently my ring stopped working. I contacted Oura support and, after reviewing the diagnostics from my ring, their representative confirmed that the problem was caused by an “internal issue with the ring.” The support first claimed it was outside of warranty. - which upset me since the ring was not even 1 year old and they literally market a 1 year warranty when you buy it. I fought this with a representative in their chat. To Oura's credit, the representative I spoke with was helpful and offered to make an exception and replace my Ring 4 at no cost. What bothers me is the bigger picture. These are expensive devices, and customers also pay an ongoing membership to use their full functionality. Having the hardware develop an internal failure after roughly a year does not give me much confidence in the long-term quality of the product. also, marketing a one year warranty at checout, that then is not applied at first, also left a bitter taste. Since the Ring 5 is now available, I asked whether the value of the authorized Ring 4 replacement could simply be applied toward a Ring 5, with me paying the difference. Oura said this wasn't possible. Instead, I had to choose between receiving another Ring 4 or purchasing the Ring 5 separately. I was ultimately offered a $75 discount toward a new Ring 5. I appreciate the support representative trying to help, but I'm disappointed with Oura as a product and with the policy surrounding a device that Oura itself confirmed had suffered an internal failure. For a premium wearable at this price point - particularly one tied to an ongoing paid membership - I expect the hardware to last considerably longer than this. I'm giving Oura another chance with the Ring 5, but this experience has made me seriously question whether I'll remain an Oura customer long term. If the new ring develops similar reliability issues, I will be moving to another platform.
