Misleading file recovery preview and negotiated refund down to 50%
Not gonna give it just 1 star because I can't say I've tested their software from all possible perspectives and under all circumstances, but so far this one go has been frustrating, dissappointing and if anything, I'd say misleading. I used their trial software to recover a project I was working on in my local drive on an SSD hard disk. The trial quickly shows you some files. You can even filter by folders to narrow it down to your desired one and it looks promising. It got most of the filenames right, too. The issue I see -which is misleading and quite suspicious- is that it gives you a preview of the file contents. However, what you see is just dummy stuff, like weird characters which actually don't look like the expected file. As a customer in a desperate need to recover something very valuable, I thought: oh, this guys are showing you they can recover the files but they won't show you the real content because it's a trial. Therefore, I trusted their very powerful marketing and gave them a chance. Gave them my money. Literally, that's whay I did, give it away. I paid around 50 dollars for a one-month license without remorse as I wanted to get my files back so bad... When I activated the software, I immediately completed scanning the folder I was targeting and once done, I was hoping that the dummy content I saw before -which I thought it was part of their strategy- would turn into my actual files. What did I get in the end? I guess I don't need to say it but just in case: the same dummy, made-up like, suspicious, unexpected and disappointing file content. Oh boy! Really? I immediately requested a refund and -I gotta give it to them- got an immediate response, polite and quite reasonable offering me a lifetime license instead of the refund. Are you telling me this company's policy is to offer everyone lifetime licenses when they fail to recover their files? What's the business model here? Really suspicious. I pushed forward, declined the license as I really am not happy with EaseUS and got another reply offering half the money back. Wow. I was speechless to be honest. Is this a negotiation? Bargaining now? Is this a souvenir market and I'm a tourist? At this point I thought if I pushed further, I would get a complete negative answer and they would not even want to give me 50% back so I just said I wasn't happy but I would take it. Yes, they gave me the refund so that's why I'm giving them 2 stars, because at least I can see there's a team of human beings dealing with after sales issues. What I don't like is the product and their refund policy. I think it's unreasonable and abusive, in a way. I hope this review feels fair and useful. Even if you're desperate to recover your stuff. Don't trust the preview of file recovery they show in the trial version. I have chosen the date of the refund but this has been going on for 2 to 3 days after I purchased the montly license.
