SkyTab

I want to share my experience with…

I want to share my experience with Shift4 / SkyTab because it has been one of the most problematic service providers I’ve worked with. From the beginning, I encountered multiple issues: 1. Incorrect charges, including billing before installation. Shift4 started charging me before the system was even installed. They also billed me for two printers even though only one was installed. Their own staff confirmed this in person. 2. A two-month delay in delivering the scanner, causing real losses. The scanner – necessary for locating tickets quickly – took almost two months to arrive. During that time, my staff struggled, lines backed up, mistakes happened during peak hours, and customers were frustrated. 3. A $500 annual fee that was never properly disclosed. The contract clearly lists a $129.99 annual fee. However, they charged $500 and claimed they “notified” me through a dashboard message. No written notice was ever sent to my mailing address, my business address, or my email, as required by their own contract. 4. A fraudulent $172.77 online transaction processed entirely by their system. This was an online order. I never processed the payment or handled the card. Despite that, they demanded that I provide proof of authorization—when they are the processor and they are the ones who hold the authorization record, AVS, CVV, and transaction logs. They refused to provide any documentation. 5. Unannounced fee changes and forcing new charges on merchants. They recently added a new $325 RAF fee per device. I rejected it within the 30-day period the contract requires, yet they are ignoring my notice and insisting I “cannot cancel,” even though the contract clearly allows cancellation without penalty when a new fee is introduced. 6. They do not follow their own contract. I am exercising my rights exactly as stated in their agreement. Still, they ignore my notices, send generic responses, and act as if I am mistaken simply because the contract clauses that protect the merchant don’t benefit them. After repeated billing issues, missing equipment, contract violations, lack of transparency, and unfair business practices, I have no choice but to escalate this matter to the Illinois Attorney General, the FTC, and the BBB. Internal communication with Shift4 has led nowhere. They only enforce contract terms when they benefit the company, and disregard the terms that protect the merchant. My recommendation to any business considering them: Do not rely on this company. They do not follow their contract, they don’t provide required documentation, they don’t issue proper notices, and when something harms the merchant, it “applies,” but when something benefits the merchant, they claim it doesn’t count.
