Reliable System, Frustrating Fine Print.
I used Brinks Home for about eight years, so I'm not writing this from a bad first impression. Here's my opinion. The good: the system works. It's reliable. I never had a false sense of security — when the alarm went off, it went off. For basic home protection, the hardware does its job. The bad: everything else. Technical support is a coin flip. Some calls, you get someone competent who actually solves your problem. Other calls I experienced...nothing but frustration. It's inconsistent in a way that, for me, got old fast, especially after years of loyalty. Now for the part I wish someone had told me before I signed up — the cancellation policy. There is fine print, and you need to read it. All of it. At a minimum, expect to be charged for another 30 days after you cancel. Depending on your contract, it could be more. The process isn't designed to make leaving easy. In my case, I felt they could have expressed appreciation for the years I was a customer, waived the 30-day cancellation notice, and not charged for another month. But apparently, they don't want to reward loyalty. After eight years, I switched to Ring and haven't looked back. I bought my equipment outright, I'm paying less than half of what I paid Brinks monthly, and when I'm done, I'm just... done. No contract gymnastics. If you're shopping for a home security system, I'd strongly recommend Ring or SimpliSafe — equipment you own, and zero cancellation headaches. Brinks isn't a scam; it's a security company that provides the services it promises. But, in my opinion, the customer service is lacking, and the pricing is no bargain. Read the fine print. Seriously.
