LegalShield

My family used LegalShield and was…

My family used LegalShield and was referred to Attorney James A. Davis in Winston-Salem for an intestate estate. After the initial contact, we received no communication for nearly six months. In April, I had to drive from Georgia to North Carolina just to get an update because no one at the firm was responding. The attorney’s paralegal sent my sister the administrator forms using an office address the firm stopped using two years ago. The correct office address—where Attorney Davis has been located for approximately two years—is 250 W 1st St, Suite 212, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. We now have proof that the firm was still using outdated stationery: the client intake form provided by the office displays the old address, showing that obsolete materials were still in circulation. My sister mailed the notarized forms certified. USPS marked the package “delivered in person” on a Saturday when the building was closed, and the postal inspector later confirmed the carrier signed for it himself. The forms were never delivered.Because of this mistake, 14 heirs—including me—had to redo and re-notarize our documents, costing time, money, and additional travel. In July, my sister went directly to the courthouse and was approved as administrator in three days, something the attorney had not accomplished in half a year.Only after she was approved did Attorney Davis refund the $2,500 retainer that had been cashed in February. He refused to accept responsibility for the delay, the travel expenses, or even the $7 notary fee caused entirely by his paralegal’s error. I’m not a high-paid attorney—every dollar matters, including my $7. LegalShield should know this referral resulted in avoidable delays, unnecessary expenses, and a complete lack of accountability.
