2.0 Rating? I don't think so...
Was pretty shocked to see Steam with such a low rating. Not really sure where these 1-Star reviews are coming from. Looks like quite a few of them are issues with a single game franchise, Call Of Duty, and problems with Microsoft's Azure hosting service. Nothing to do with Steam, but I digress... For me, as someone who's been gaming since the early 80's, when Steam came along it was an absolute godsend. No more disks lying around getting scratched, no more going to the store to find out they're sold out of the newest game, no more finding out you're 3 patches behind when you go to join your friends online. Everything is right there, in one place, ready to install, patch, and play. What really sells me on Steam, however, is their internal policies. Everyone knows about the refund policy, which is exceptional for an online service. But few know about their anti-advertising policy, keeping games from flooding you with ads while you play. Or their library restoration policy, which means if someone accidentally deletes a game you paid for from your library they can recover it for you. Or their account recovery policy, which helps you recover your account and prosecute the criminal who stole it. Their brilliance on user reviews, as well, means I can check out what players feel about a game before I choose to buy. Put plainly, I feel safe spending money on Steam. I know the games I purchase will still be there tomorrow, and the month after that, and years after that. Steam is dedicated to the players, while still remaining fair to developers, and that's a perfect balance for a software distributer. Not to mention, their short but excellent sales bring a lot of AAA games down into the realm of affordability for players who can't really spend $80 on a game. All in all, I'm a big fan of Steam. I've got over 700 games on the platform, have written over 170 curator reviews, and have well over 10,000 hours of total gameplay across my entire library. If that doesn't represent how good of a service Steam is... I don't know what would.
