Thumbtacky's idea of "getting stuff done
Thumbtack's idea of "getting stuff done" appears to be scheduling appointments for work they can't perform and then congratulating themselves for issuing a refund that never arrived. I received enough emails and text messages to suggest a highly organized operation. Unfortunately, the one thing that wasn't organized was finding someone to actually do the job. I did not seek out Thumbtack. This service was arranged through Lowe's for an Ecobee smart thermostat installation. The original appointment was confirmed and then canceled because Thumbtack stated they could not find a professional to perform the installation. I received an email stating that a full refund would be issued. No refund was received. After contacting Lowe's, their representative spent approximately 30 minutes working with Thumbtack and I was told that a professional had been located after all. A second installation appointment was scheduled for today between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM. No one arrived. No one called. No one texted. No one emailed. The last communication I received was an automated reminder for a previous appointment that had already been canceled. At this point, the issue is not simply that an installation was missed. The issue is the complete lack of communication and the apparent disconnect between scheduling, customer service, and whatever system is responsible for appointment notifications. If your goal is to receive automated messages, appointment confirmations, cancellations, apologies, and promises of refunds, Thumbtack appears to have that process mastered. If your goal is to have the work actually completed, my experience suggests you should have a backup plan.
