Apollo

Paid for Leads, Got Limitations and Upselling Instead

What went wrong? Almost everything that should have been explained before I paid for the platform. I started with Apollo.io’s free plan and then upgraded to a monthly subscription. No one informed me that unused credits would not roll over. No one clearly explained the geographic or search limitations of my package. I had to contact customer service myself just to understand what I had purchased. I am a recruiter based in Alberta. My searches produced approximately 19 leads across Alberta and British Columbia and only about 120 across all of Western Canada. Even those searches were unreliable, and not one of the results developed into a successful lead. I was also unable to properly search the U.S. market because of restrictions attached to my package—restrictions that should have been clearly disclosed before I upgraded. In the end, I created a more effective lead-generation process using ChatGPT. That produced better research, stronger targeting and more useful prospects than the dedicated lead-generation platform I was paying for. Where was the onboarding? Where was the explanation of what each package could realistically provide? Why did no one ask about my target markets or business needs before recommending a paid plan? Why were important limitations only explained after I contacted customer service? The response from Apollo.io’s AI and support team was repeatedly that I needed to upgrade again. That is not meaningful customer support. It feels like every problem with the platform is answered with another request for more money. How can Apollo.io improve? Be transparent before customers subscribe. Clearly explain credit-expiration policies, geographic restrictions, search limitations and realistic lead availability. Provide proper onboarding, assign someone to understand the customer’s goals and improve the reliability of the search results. Most importantly, offer actual solutions instead of treating every customer-service question as another upselling opportunity. Apollo.io may work for businesses purchasing its more expensive packages, but my experience was defined by unreliable searches, no successful leads, unclear subscription terms, poor communication and constant pressure to upgrade.
