I decided to try a free trial - I asked to be notified when the trial ended which I was not, I was then charged around $240 AUD for a premium subscription, which I did not consent to. Because I purposely removed funds to avoid this money being taken out of my account, I was not able to use my Apple account for anything, I was not allowed to upgrade or download new apps until I had paid that fee. So I called my bank and we had those charges blocked and I reached out to Speechify’s customer service to get no response, hoping to resolve the issue. Bear in mind we are just scratching the surface…. Beyond the fraudulent charges and non-existent communication, the app itself is most definitely not worth $240 dollars annually…. Firstly, the readers cannot undertake simple grammar and work around it, often words become separated or pronounced in a way that would confuse anyone, secondly, I often find the voices reading material often morphe in and out of several different voices, SOMEONE TELL ME WHY GWENYTH PALTROW JUST SOUNDED LIKE A MAN? it’s actually quite scary because sometimes it sounds like a genuine demon is reading me a book…. Not what I wouldn’t signed up for if I did in the first place. Furthermore, the app genuinely glitches so often that it almost makes you think it would be better to just read the book yourself. It’s a horrible app, there’s no communication via customer service and I wouldn’t recommend being scammed. Save your coin and read yourself tbh.
