Misleading $1 offer resulted in an unexpected $39 subscription charge I purchased what was prominently advertised to me as a $1 offer. The advertisement and checkout heavily emphasized the $1 price, including a large “Buy for $1” button. I did not understand that I was also entering into a recurring subscription that would charge me $39 after the trial period. Had the $39 recurring subscription been as clear and prominent to me as the advertised $1 price, I would never have completed the purchase. After discovering the $39 charge, I contacted NewMindStart immediately. They cancelled future payments but refused my request to refund the $39, citing their cancellation and refund policy. My issue isn't that subscription terms didn't exist somewhere in the checkout process. My issue is how the offer was presented. The $1 price was extremely prominent while the much more significant recurring financial commitment was far easier to overlook. I believe consumers should be shown recurring charges just as clearly and prominently as the introductory price used to attract them. I have screenshots of the checkout offer, my account showing the $39 subscription, and my conversation with customer support. I would advise anyone considering a NewMindStart $1 promotion to carefully inspect every part of the checkout process and make sure you understand whether a recurring subscription is being activated.
