Great customer support, but a very disappointing delivery experience
I purchased a Snapmaker U1 for €829 on August 30, mainly to increase my 3D printing production capacity. Unfortunately, my first experience with Snapmaker was heavily affected by the delivery process. The original printer was shipped from Germany via DHL. For several days, the shipment had no meaningful tracking updates, and there was also an incorrect postal code on the shipping information. What followed was an extremely confusing logistics journey involving DHL and CTT in Portugal. Once the package arrived in Portugal, it reached Lisbon and was then sent to Devesas, which appears to have been related to the incorrect postal code. From there, it went to the Porto distribution centre. At that point, I expected the obvious next step would be to redirect it to the correct distribution centre in Maia, especially since I had already made several attempts to have the postal code corrected. Instead, the package was sent all the way back to Lisbon, and only after that was it finally sent to the correct distribution centre in Maia and delivered. This DHL/CTT partnership made the whole process particularly difficult to understand as a customer. At different stages, I contacted the carriers trying to correct the delivery information and understand what was happening, while being redirected between the parties involved. The parcel was moving around Portugal instead of simply being redirected locally to the correct delivery area. The consequences were not limited to inconvenience. I purchased this printer for production purposes and had four customer orders depending on the additional production capacity. Because of the delay, I missed those production deadlines and had to contact my customers to renegotiate their delivery dates. Eventually, Snapmaker decided that waiting for the original DHL/CTT shipment was no longer reasonable and sent me a replacement printer via UPS with the correct address. The difference was remarkable: the UPS shipment arrived in just 5 days. Ironically, after all the delays and the complicated journey of the original shipment, both printers ended up arriving almost at the same time. Given the timing of the two deliveries, it was practically impossible to refuse the original one. I immediately contacted Snapmaker to inform them that I had received both units. I only opened the printer delivered by UPS. The original printer delivered through DHL/CTT remained unopened in its original packaging, ready to be returned. Snapmaker confirmed that I should keep the UPS unit and that the original DHL shipment would be returned at no cost to me. However, at the time of writing this review, I have still not been able to arrange the return with DHL, so unfortunately the logistics side of this experience is not completely resolved yet. That said, I want to clearly separate the logistics experience from the customer support I received. Nina from Snapmaker Support was excellent throughout the entire process. She consistently responded to my messages, escalated the issue internally, listened to my concerns and genuinely tried to find solutions. When it became clear that the original shipment was becoming increasingly problematic, she helped arrange the replacement shipment via UPS. Her support was probably the most positive part of this entire experience, and I genuinely appreciate the way she handled the situation. So my experience with Snapmaker is mixed. The DHL/CTT logistics experience was extremely frustrating and unnecessarily complicated, particularly considering this was an €829 piece of equipment purchased for production purposes. In contrast, Snapmaker's customer support was responsive and ultimately found a practical solution, and the replacement shipment via UPS demonstrated that delivery from Germany to Portugal could be completed quickly and efficiently. I am now finally able to use the U1 and evaluate the printer itself. I was actually considering purchasing a second Snapmaker U1 to further increase my production capacity, but this first purchasing and delivery experience has understandably made me more cautious about making another investment. Hopefully, the experience with the U1 itself will restore that confidence. From my experience, Snapmaker has a product I was genuinely interested in investing further in, but I strongly believe the company should review its European logistics arrangements — particularly the DHL/CTT delivery process in Portugal — because the shipping experience did not match what I would expect when purchasing equipment at this price level.
