My experience with Expedia has been…very disappointing and frustrating
My experience with Expedia has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. I booked a hotel reservation for a trip to Shenzhen China via Hong Kong, but due to a typhoon, the airport in Hong Kong was closed and my flight was canceled. This was a documented weather emergency and entirely outside of my control. I promptly submitted all required documentation, including proof of the flight cancellation, airport closure, and travel disruption. Despite providing clear evidence and participating in numerous email exchanges, Expedia has continued to delay a fair resolution. What makes this situation even more unacceptable is that Expedia informed me that the hotel agreed to cancel four of the five nights, yet they still expect me to pay for one night that I could not use because I was physically unable to reach my destination. I never checked in, never occupied the room, and never had the opportunity to use the reservation due to circumstances beyond my control. As a long-time traveler, I find it unreasonable that a customer should be penalized for a natural disaster and government or airport closures. Instead of demonstrating understanding and customer support during an emergency, Expedia has made the refund process unnecessarily difficult despite receiving all requested documentation. I expected Expedia to advocate for its customers in situations like this. Instead, I have spent countless hours trying to recover money for a reservation I was unable to use because of a typhoon-related flight cancellation. This experience has seriously damaged my confidence in Expedia’s commitment to customer service and fair treatment of travelers. I urge Expedia to honor a full refund and review its policies regarding travelers affected by severe weather events and other circumstances beyond their control. Until this matter is resolved fairly, I cannot recommend Expedia based on my experience. Regards Colin
