I have booked a trip in Jan 2025 from Kunming to Vientiane and everything was handled very well and I have got my e-Ticket and important advises on the first day of purchase.

The booking was easy and the booking staff quick and responsive. For us, the travel all went exactly as hoped. It is a little uncomfortable that they cannot guarantee to get the tickets until just a couple of weeks before travel. Not the fault of the booking agency but rather, of the Chinese rail system I think. This feature makes one worried about what would happen if the tickets cannot be supplied, when one has a long schedule of hotels and flights strung together. The travel itself was smooth and fast, some of the trains were quite full but only one was uncomfortably so. The problem is (like everywhere else in the world), that there is never enough space for everybody's luggage.

The most complicated thing is deciding where to go in China as the possibilites are endless. Once you decide where you want to go the booking process is so easy and pre-confirmation immediate. When tickets come on sale definite confirmation is automatically sent. I had chosen 3 trains which were all available. Would highly recommend this company when planning your trip.

Had a really good experience with the China Highlights Train Ticket Service, both me and my friends used it and had no problems! Very convenient way for foreigners to buy train tickets in China. I would definitely use it again. Also very quick to reply to any questions which is great. Tip: message them with any specific requests before the purchase, me and my friends wanted to sit together but only talked to them about it after making the payment so they couldn’t help us with that anymore, but seemed like they would have, would the request have been done before.
Easy to buy train tickets.
They made it easy to buy tickets for the train in advance. Unfortunately we didn’t get seats in the business class train we wanted to they offered us a longer train by one hour with the same departure time. Good solution but unfortunate situation for them not being able to grab these tickets quicker when sale started. Also since we booked in business class I would have loved to know that we can access the business lounge in the train station which they didn’t tell us. Other than that good experience.
Efficient but lack of communication
They bought for us the requested tickets when available, and found alternative travel solutions when not. We asked them to send tickets to our hotel but they did not. Finally we found out that passports were enough for check-in and travelling. This was not clearly stated and they did not replay to our e-mails.

We booked several train journeys and all went really smoothly. Slightly anxiety provoking the last journey wasn't confirmed until pretty much the day we left, but it all worked out. Simple process and timely, up to date information, it was the easiest part of our trip to arrange and the trains were great!

Despite booking months in advance they couldn't get a ticket for my preferred connection and then waited hours after my feedback and booked my last priority and the worst seat possible.
Trains are nearly flawless, booking process is easy, but prepare yourself for a middle seat
The trains themselves are phenomenal - China’s rail system is one of the greatest infrastructure achievements in human history, I’d say comparable only to the Roman aqueducts and the Inca roads. China Highlights is one of the best ways for a foreigner to book tickets. Simple, fluid, affordable, and gets you a seat. If there’s one gripe I have with them, it’s that you almost never get *good* seats. On the high speed trains, seats are 2x3 across, so you have a 20% chance of getting a middle seat; when you book with China Highlights, empirically I’d say it’s more like 50%. If you do get a window seat, it’s almost always one that it between actual windows, so you’re looking at the column between windows whereas the people ahead and behind you can look out the real window. You’d think that this is because I book at last minute when the good seats are taken, but I don’t. I think China Railways designates a handful of specifically undesirable seats to be booked by tourist booking agencies, whereas the better seats can be booked on WeChat, mostly used by Chinese nationals. I’m dwelling too much on this point. Unless you can book tickets on WeChat, and for that you need a Chinese bank account, absolutely use China Highlights.
