Unnecessary website charging extra for booking regular tickets

Booked Iryo train tickets from Madrid to Barcelona, after getting the invoice, realized that we got a markup of about 60 Euros extra for the two tickets. When the tickets were sent, we were not seated together. After a lengthy back and forth with customer support, they offered to seat us together for another 25 Euros extra. Poor and misleading in all aspects. Please don't waste your money on this website and book directly from the Train operator.

My simple advice is not to use this site, but to book rail travel through actual rail organisations. Needing to link up with a cruise ship at Bergen in Norway, I made a payment of AUD 518 to Rail Ninja in October 2024 to secure me two (2) first class rail tickets for two seniors from Oslo to Bergen on 26 July 2025. This involved paying them a large premium as my later inquiries revealed that two such tickets would have cost approx. AUD 182 if booked 3 months before the trip. However, Rail Ninja failed to book two first class tickets and offered two economy tickets in April 2025, claiming that they could not secure what we had paid for. Initially they did not offer any refund of the difference in price. Whether Rail Ninja actually sought to secure First Class tickets from Norwegian Rail (VY) is moot. We were obliged to use the tickets as we had no way of knowing whether we could have booked the service so close to the date of travel. Subsequently, Rail Ninja resisted our approaches to seek some explanation and an appropriate refund, and the process getting any satisfactory response took months of effort. The difference between the economy tickets and their charges was approx. AUD 335. They refused to render an amended account. After refusing to refund, and with my persistence, they then offered a low value voucher for future travel. When that offer was declined, they offered an amount of cash and a small voucher, but refused to give me a full accounting for their service or to offer a full cash refund. The last offer was grudgingly accepted, because I was sick of wasting time dealing with this organisation. Of course, the offered voucher became valueless, as I was not going to pay out any more money to use their services. Michael Sydney Australia

Do not use Rail Ninja - overpriced scam!

Rail Ninja sells tickets with a very big markup compared to the official sites. The tickets are legit at least but that is the only good thing to be said about it. Ordered tickets that had to get downgraded to a lower class and they only issued a small (very random) refund which did not at all cover the price difference. The tickets are now more than double the price of the ones from the official site. They also never sent an actual proper receipt let alone an itemized list of the costs and are completely intransparent about their pricing. Avoid this service at all costs, I will definitely never use it again!

Was easy to navigate through the site but I wasn’t informed after I had paid for my tickets that the tickets would be sent later by mail! Just saying “ in progress “ made me worry if my payment had gone through and I would actually get my tickets!

Just one issue

Just one issue - 1st class tickets say 'no specific seat" the economy seats show the allocation. I assume 1st class we have an assigned seat. Otherwise, the booking process was fine.

It was clear and only took me minutes…

It was clear and only took me minutes to book. I was a little confused about the seats because I didn’t see Economy seat from Toronto to Kingston but then it came up and I chose it. Thankyou. But I am a Senior and I didn’t see a Senior rate.

SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!!!!

SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!!!! I am is such distress because of this company and their extremely deceptive practices and I want to warn others. When I search the train company Rail Ninja comes up with train logo. The ticket I needed was 557 NOK. On the real website it is 268 NOK. It is more than twice the amount. And to top it off they will take 381 NOK if I cancel so I can’t cancel as it will end up costing me more. They try and trick you thinking the are legitimate while taking horrendous fees. I am sitting there crying and distressed because I don’t have this sort of money and when talking to them they just cut you off and can’t continue the chat. So I am writing this to warn others how horrible this company is and I wonder how they manage to sleep at night treating people like this. Like I said it has caused me so much stress because money is very tight.

Avoid Rail Ninja for Train Tickets in Indonesia I strongly recommend that travellers avoid booking train tickets through Rail Ninja, especially for travel in Indonesia. Our experience was extremely disappointing. We originally booked train tickets from Yogyakarta to Jakarta through Rail Ninja. We later realised that we already had domestic flights booked and contacted Rail Ninja to change our booking to Surabaya Gubeng – Yogyakarta. Rail Ninja confirmed that the change was possible and asked us to pay an additional modification fee, which we paid immediately. We then received an email confirming that our booking had been updated and another email stating that our new tickets were being processed and would be issued shortly. Only afterwards did Rail Ninja inform us that they were unable to issue the tickets. As a result: * We paid significantly more than the official railway ticket price by booking through Rail Ninja. * We paid the additional modification fee requested by Rail Ninja. * Rail Ninja confirmed that our booking had been updated. * We never received the replacement tickets. * Our request for a refund was refused. We were left without valid train tickets and had to make alternative travel arrangements ourselves. The most disappointing part was not that the tickets could not be changed, but that Rail Ninja accepted additional payment, confirmed the booking update, and only afterwards informed us that they could not provide the service while refusing to refund our money. Based on our experience, I strongly recommend booking directly with the official railway operator or one of its authorised partners. It is less expensive, more reliable, and provides much better customer protection. Avoid Rail Ninja if you want to save yourself unnecessary stress, additional costs, and the risk of paying for a service that is never delivered.
