The change is part of the UK wide new Voluntary Code of Good Practice (https://www.gov.uk/government/news/big-win-for-players-as-government-launches-voluntary-code-for-prize-draw-operators). While credit cards were previously used, commercial prize draw companies are now adopting stricter regulations to protect consumers. Customers can set a monthly spend limit on their account and or pause playing for a while. if they like.
