I contacted AHS for a ceiling fan…

I contacted AHS for a ceiling fan warranty claim on May 26, 2026. They sent out a vendor who didn’t even dismantle the ceiling fan just said it was burnt wires (the fan did still turn on and move) and left. I requested with AHS a second opinion. They sent out the second contractor and they did take the fan apart and determined it was a motor going bad and submitted a repair claim with AHS. It took weeks to finally get the repair approved but it was approved and AHS even sent an email to the vendor. When a couple weeks went by I reached back out to the vendor because I had heard nothing and they informed me that AHS had removed them from the claim and closed it without them ever completing the replacement. When I reached out to AHS they claim they have nothing in their system that shows they approved it originally and also keep telling me my request for a second opinion has been denied. When I explain they already approved and sent a vendor for the second opinion all I get from them is they stand by their decision. I cannot get anything from upper management either. They call continuously to say they stand behind their decision and will escalate my complaint. I have offered to provide proof but they will not provide me with an email to send the proof to. The second contractor can also confirm everything. I will never use AHS or recommend them to anyone in the future.

American Home Shield is a great program…

American Home Shield is a great program that is easy to navigate ! Phil the A/C / heating guy was awesome ! He even went the extra mile by checking our heat pump (When our AC was the issue )! So appreciated the extra attention and care he gave us as customers!

AHS scammed me

AHS, whom I have had a higher-tier plan with for over six years left me high and dry when my AC unit failed. They chose a minor technicality ('lack of access' which was not true) to deny coverage, and spent over a month running me around in circles. Never give them your business, they will take your money and run, and leave you hanging when you need them. Worthless "warranty"

CLAIM OPENED MAY 10, 4 service appts, still no safe refrigerator

CLAIM OPENED MAY 10, FOUR SERVICE APPOINTMENTS, STILL NO SAFE REFRIGERATOR We opened our refrigerator claim with American Home Shield on May 10, 2026. After nearly three months and FOUR service appointments, American Home Shield still had not provided us with a working refrigerator. After the fourth service appointment on August 3, the technician said the refrigerator was working. It was not. Approximately 1 hour later there was still no improvement, and the refrigerator and freezer ultimately remained at approximately 70°F — completely unsafe for food storage. After four unsuccessful appointments, we could no longer continue waiting for another repair attempt while being unable to safely refrigerate or freeze food. On August 7, 2026 — nearly THREE MONTHS after opening our claim — we were forced to purchase a replacement refrigerator ourselves for $1,714.89. The bottom line: Claim opened May 10. Four service appointments. Refrigerator and freezer still approximately 70°F and unsafe for food. Nearly three months later, we had to spend $1,714.89 to replace the refrigerator ourselves. We purchased a home warranty so we would have protection when a major appliance failed. We should not have had to wait nearly three months, go through four unsuccessful service appointments, and ultimately pay for the replacement ourselves. We have requested reimbursement of our $1,714.89 replacement cost from American Home Shield and are awaiting resolution. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend American Home Shield.

Avoid using American Home Shield - HVAC Nightmare - You have to do all of the work

I genuinely tried to resolve this privately with American Home Shield before leaving a public review, including escalating the matter to their Executive Relations department. Unfortunately, the experience has been incredibly frustrating, disappointing, and unnecessarily difficult. The lack of communication has been painful. I was promised updates that did not come. I was told a supervisor from May Heating & Air, the HVAC contractor assigned by American Home Shield, would contact me, and that call never happened. Instead, I repeatedly found myself acting as the middleman between American Home Shield and May Heating & Air, chasing both companies for information and answers that should have been communicated between them. Even more concerning has been the vagueness and inconsistency surrounding the claim decision itself. The explanation for why the claim was being denied evolved throughout the escalation. I repeatedly asked direct questions about the basis for the decision and how specific provisions of my warranty applied, yet getting a clear and straightforward explanation was remarkably difficult. This situation involves a mini-split system installed less than two years ago by May Heating & Air, the contractor American Home Shield assigned to perform the replacement. The existing underground refrigerant line set was reused during that installation. When concerns were subsequently raised about the original installation and that line set, I specifically asked AHS how it determined whether the current problem was simply a coverage exclusion versus a potential workmanship issue involving May Heating & Air. I was ultimately told that American Home Shield does not investigate contractor workmanship after a repair or replacement because its contractors are independently licensed and insured. That response was extremely disappointing. American Home Shield selected May Heating & Air and sent them to our home to perform the replacement. YET, when concerns arose less than two years later regarding that work, AHS essentially separated itself from responsibility for evaluating the workmanship and directed us back toward the contractor. The communication between American Home Shield and May Heating & Air has been equally frustrating. AHS told me it spoke with May Heating & Air regarding the line set, but when I requested the technician’s report and documentation supporting the claim determination, AHS told me they did not have the physical report and that I needed to contact May Heating & Air myself to obtain it. So AHS was comfortable making a claim determination based on information provided by May Heating & Air, while I was left chasing May Heating & Air myself for the underlying documentation. After weeks of emails, follow-ups and escalation to Executive Relations, I am left extremely disappointed not only with the outcome of the claim, but with the vague and evolving explanations, lack of transparency, missed follow-ups, and breakdown in communication between American Home Shield and May Heating & Air. A home warranty claim is stressful enough without customers having to chase multiple companies, act as the intermediary between a warranty company and its assigned contractor, decipher changing explanations, and repeatedly ask for the documentation and reasoning behind a decision. I have now reached the point of filing formal consumer complaints because my repeated attempts to resolve this directly have not produced what I consider a satisfactory or transparent resolution. If you are considering American Home Shield, I strongly recommend researching not only AHS’s claims process but also customer experiences involving the contractors they assign. My experience with American Home Shield and May Heating & Air has left me with serious concerns about what happens when a customer questions work performed by an AHS-assigned contractor and then struggles to get either company to take ownership of resolving the issue. I wish I had done considerably more research beforehand as there were numerous complaints not only about AHS, but American Home shield AND May Heating & Air together. I've essentially been paying money for the last few years and higher premiums with each increase to a company that you have to answer for yourself. I could've just saved that monthly premium to put to savings instead of dealing with this stress and nightmare of customer service.

I had high hopes for this company

I had high hopes for this company. They appear to scam individuals. The contractors that are sent out try to sell their own services apart from AHS. Our service request keeps being written up as “preexisting” which is incorrect. I live in Texas a HVAC system can fail at any time. Our contractor literally said it wasn’t preexisting and AHS automatically denies it if you haven’t held the plan long enough (not disclosed) What is the point of the 30 days? Our contractor gave us his report, I asked to send it in to highlight the discrepancy. Ivy from the escalations department said we could not. She then asked if we had a 90 day inspection prior to signing up to the plan. She argues that it was disclosed during signup we should do it. I can assure you that was NEVER said. I told her since the calls are recorded go back to the recorded call. Of course she didn’t want to do that. Overall terrible experience.

worst experience of my life

the whole home warranty through this company is terrible. i had an issue with my ac i cant ever get ahold of anyone then when i try to apply things on the app it wont let you to which you have to call and talk to people who you cant ever understand anything they are saying. i had an ac issue and they came out charged me $125 for a company to come out to which the company tells me they dont have they parts to fix it and they would have to schedule another appoint. how does a plumbing company not have basic plumbing parts? they then come out for the second time after a hassel and claim to fix the line to which the pan starts to fill up with water and go down the bypass when contacting the homeshield warranty about this they then charge me another $125 to have someone come out and look at this again when its still related to the first problem i had. the people then come out and slap silicone on the unit expecting that to fix the problem. it looked like a toddler did the work and they didnt even take off the side of the unit to look into it to which i then had to have them come out a 4th time and all having to take time off work to do this. they then tell me that my options are to pay $400-825 to fix the unit or to pay $10k for a new unit and they will help me with about $500 of the cost of the new unit. tell me how that makes sense the whole purpose was help if i had a issue it was 10x more work and still more expensive then if i got someone to install a new unit. this company is nothing short of a joke and has given me nothing but restless nights having to deal with this god awful service i will never use them again and i recommend others do their research before going with this company. i only wish i could attach the photos to show you the work that was even done.

I had American Home Shield for 15 years…

I had American Home Shield for 15 years huge waste of money I had a air conditioning unit on my roof in Arizona that was 22 years old they were told three different times it needed to be replaced and all they did is put duct tape and Band-Aids on it. They suck out loud they rip people off they're full of shit! Don't waste your money even the service reps to come out say they're not going to replace your unit ever they're only going to repair it cuz if we replace it they will get rid of us as a contractor for their company. They ran by a bunch of greedy rotten millionaires go ahead and waste your money if you're stupid they are not going to replace anything on any employment and the technician from whatever company for whatever Appliance will tell you that cuz if they replace it American Home Shield will get rid of that contractor.

⭐ ONE STAR

⭐ ONE STAR — STILL NO RESOLUTION My experience with American Home Shield has gone from frustrating to completely unacceptable. AHS initially presented me with estimated non-covered costs of a little over $3,000 for my HVAC repair. I accepted that amount so the repair could move forward. Instead of receiving a scheduling update, I checked my AHS dashboard the following day and found another quote listed as pending approval. I then discovered multiple different estimates connected to the same repair—approximately $6,000, $8,000, and $11,000. That raises a very simple question: how does an accepted estimate of approximately $3,000 suddenly become several different estimates ranging up to roughly $11,000, with no clear explanation? The communication has been equally unacceptable. The telephone number AHS provided for the assigned contractor was out of service. I had to research alternate numbers myself and have since left multiple messages with the contractor without receiving a return call. So, after paying for a home warranty and going through multiple HVAC contractors, I am now left with: • An approximately $3,000 estimate that I accepted • Additional estimates of roughly $6,000, $8,000, and $11,000 appearing in my account • No clear explanation for why the pricing changed • No confirmed repair date • An AHS-provided contractor phone number that does not work • Multiple unanswered messages to the contractor This is not what homeowners should expect from a company that sells peace of mind. A warranty company should manage the claim, communicate clearly, coordinate its contractors, and explain major changes in cost before presenting customers with dramatically different numbers. Instead, I have had to chase down contractors, research phone numbers myself, monitor the AHS dashboard for unexplained changes, and repeatedly ask for basic answers. I am requesting a written explanation from American Home Shield showing exactly what the approximately $3,000 accepted amount covered, why additional estimates were subsequently generated, what each new estimate represents, and what amount AHS actually expects me to pay. Until American Home Shield provides a clear explanation and resolves this claim, I cannot recommend this company.

OMG - Terrible Company

OMG, what a horrible experience and company. Warning, they will find a way not to pay for your problem. They have done it to me twice. Find another home warranty company. Oh, by the way, when you call customer service, they barely speak English. I have no axe to grind, just a bad warranty company. Look into First American Home Warranty instead. They cover what they say, not the lies from AHS. Remember, your sales has one job, to sell you then disappear and let customer service deal with any issues.

Worst company and worst customer…

Worst company and worst customer service. My AC broke during a heat wave and I’ve been waiting for week for an AC diagnostic and nothing, I told them what type of technician I needed and nothing. The tech support doesn’t listen, I called them and she asked How was I feeling, I replied “stressed” and she replied “I’m glad to hear sir”…they really don’t listen.

AC not actually covered - UNamerican Home Shield

I purchased an American Home Shield ShieldPlatinum plan expecting help when a major HVAC failure occurred. Instead, I experienced inconsistent diagnoses, poor communication, and what felt like a sales process rather than a warranty service. My 16-year-old Goodman system is the original builder-installed HVAC system for my home. The first technician diagnosed a leaking condenser coil but the claim was denied for "lack of capacity." We were never told the system was undersized during the visit. Because the denial didn't make sense, we requested a second opinion. The second technician then told us the first technician was wrong about the system being undersized and said AHS would likely approve the same size unit because it would be "ONLY enough to get the job done." Instead of performing a thorough evaluation, much of the conversation focused on upgrading us to a larger system. After waiting for an update, I called the HVAC company only to learn that the second technician had placed the claim on hold because he was waiting to hear from us since he believed the claim would be denied anyway. We were never informed that our claim had been placed on hold. The biggest issue is transparency. If AHS has standards for determining that an HVAC system is too small for a home, those standards should be clearly disclosed to customers. Before purchasing a home warranty, consumers should know: How AHS determines a system has "lack of capacity." Whether they use load calculations or other objective criteria. Whether original builder-installed systems can be denied years later for being considered undersized. Consumers shouldn't have to discover these standards only after paying for a warranty and filing a claim. After this experience, we lost confidence in the claims process and chose to move forward with another home warranty company rather than continue pursuing the claim. I hope AHS improves its transparency, communication, and consistency so future customers understand exactly what is and is not covered before they need to rely on their warranty. TLDR and Edit to add: We also have Choice Home Warranty because we wanted to compare coverage. Choice did approve our replacement (quickly) while American Home Shield denied our claim due to "lack of capacity" to which the specifications they base this on isn't listed anywhere. I'm more inclined to believe they leave that up to the technicians that try to upsell you. Had I known the last tech just didn't want to install a basic unit, and wanted an upsell, I would have told him to get out of my house. None of the caseworkers we spoke to were US based. We know because we asked. Not a single casemanager we've ever worked with at Choice was offshore. So there's that.

⭐️ Very disappointed with American Home…

⭐️ Very disappointed with American Home Shield I have now had the ice maker in my refrigerator break and need to be repaired twice. The most recent repair was completed on July 8 at 11:00 AM. Today, August 8 at 9:30 AM, the exact same ice maker is broken again. When I contacted American Home Shield, I was told that because it has been just over 30 days, I am now responsible for paying another $125 service fee. So apparently, if a repair fails just outside their 30-day window, the customer gets to pay another service fee for the same problem. That is extremely frustrating and does not feel like a company standing behind the work that was performed. This is now the second time we have had to deal with the ice maker being repaired, and it has failed again. I expect a home warranty company to actually help when the same appliance problem continues to occur — not make the customer pay another $125 because the repair happened to fail right after their 30-day cutoff. Very disappointed with American Home Shield and seriously questioning the value of continuing to pay for this warranty.

3 1/2 weeks without air conditioning

3 1/2 weeks without air conditioning. First we found out there were no contractors in our area that would even pick up the request from AHS. They had to get someone an hour and a half away from us. As of yesterday AHS told us that the “parts” should arrive at the contractor Monday the 10th. Mind you we put in a claim on 7/17. For 1, we need a whole new unit. AHS could have skipped their profit on the unit since this was an emergency, but NO, after 4 years of monthly payments and another $2,000 out of our pocket for “upgrades”, they are forcing us to suffer until sometime next week. AHS flat out LIED because the contractor told us that AHS was trying to get them to use a “coil” that would NOT work with our furnace so that AHS would still make max profit. We have had up to 110 degree weather and had to get an hotel for 4 days and just suffered with fans the rest of the time at home. Cooking in the house was out of the question. Bottom line, PROFIT was more important to AHS than a customer’s health and wellbeing. Take a peak at their profit margins for 3rd quarter. UNBELIEVABLE that they couldn’t have had the contractor supply the unit and saved us sweltering heat in our home for OVER 3 weeks, and hotel cost . My husband is almost 70 and has health issues. This was UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!! Read BBB reviews. You will think twice before any enter action with AHS

AHS is no longer a dependable company.

I’ve held a warranty with this company for over 10 years now. I recently had an ejector pump go out and called AHS for repairs. I pay them almost $100 per month and $100 per service call to address problems like this for me. They dispatched a plumber that took a full five days to show up from the dispatch date, offering no explanation beyond how busy they’ve been from storm damage. The plumber showed up, gave his brief explanation, and submitted a repair ticket for approval to AHS. That’s the last I ever heard from that company to this day. I was informed that I owed $215 dollars extra for uncovered expenses and to call the plumber for an explanation, the plumbing dispatcher said someone would call me back, and ignored every other attempt beyond that point to speak to me. The plumber has made no attempt to reschedule the repair date as well, leaving me with a broken pump and a basement full of water. AHS already knew that the plumber took an abnormally long time to arrive and billed me for expenses that were supposed to be covered under normal wear and tear. They offered no explanation other than to call the plumber and wouldn’t even send out a different contractor when they clearly saw the first one wasn’t communicating or scheduling the repair visit. Representatives on this matter across multiple departments were aloof, condescending, and uninterested, one even made it a point to repeatedly talk over me as I argued with him. Couple all this with the fact that all calls are to outsourced call centers now and there’s at least a 45 minute wait each time you call in, and the results are obvious: American Home Shield is no longer a dependable company and no longer provides a value for the money they charge.

AHS is a scam beware.

AHS. They are the biggest home warranty scam I have ever experienced in 26 of home ownership. Our AC went out in August. They drag their feet to schedule the repair claiming no AC companies are available in my area. We live in a metropolitan area with dozens of companies. Left us cooking for a week. Then cancelled our request so we could resubmit our request to cover a larger area. Such a hassle. They will wear you down. Never ever do business with this company. I had 7 months left on my policy. And I will never contact them again for any reason. Our realtor said no one in this area will use them anymore. I should have listened. Please save yourself the stress.

The worst company I have ever dealt…

The worst company I have ever dealt with. I honestly feel like American Home Shield is a scam. My air conditioning has not been keeping up, and after having the issue evaluated, we were told we need new ductwork. I have now been dealing with American Home Shield for an entire month, and there is still absolutely no resolution. They continue sending HVAC companies that do not even handle the type of ductwork or HVAC system we have. We have an oil and AC combination system, and apparently they cannot seem to find a contractor who actually works on it. The two companies they sent out were essentially useless. Both came out, took pictures, and left. Neither actually did anything to resolve the problem, and both indicated they don't deal with our type of system. Every time I call American Home Shield, I have to start the entire process over again. Customer service has been incredibly frustrating, communication is difficult, and the representatives seem completely unprepared to deal with an unhappy customer or actually solve the problem. A warranty company is supposed to provide service when something goes wrong. Instead, I have spent a month making phone calls, waiting for contractors, explaining the same problem repeatedly, and getting absolutely nowhere. At this point, I don't understand what exactly I am paying for. If you are considering American Home Shield, think twice. Based on my experience, getting them to actually resolve a problem has been nearly impossible. I would not recommend this company to anyone.
