Extremely disappointing and misleading experience with Collective. I signed up after being told I was receiving a 30-day free trial of their services. I quickly realized the service was not what I needed. In my experience, it felt no more than a dumbed-down version of QuickBooks, with far less value than I expected and certainly not something I wanted to pay $349 a month for. I cancelled a week before I understood any payment would be due for the following month, yet Collective still charged me $349. When I requested a refund, I was told they require 30 days’ notice to cancel. This makes absolutely no sense to me in the context of a 30-day free trial. If I have to provide 30 days’ notice to avoid being charged after a 30-day trial, I would effectively have to cancel the day I signed up. What exactly is the purpose of offering a free trial if a customer can't use that trial period to decide whether the service is worth continuing? I repeatedly asked to speak with somebody other than the same person I had dealt with about the situation since we only went around in circles and my requests were ignored by Shazeb, the Enrollment Manager who also refused to issue a refund. I was not given a meaningful way to escalate the issue to someone else. I signed up believing I could try the service before making a financial commitment considering this is what I was told by the salesman. Instead, I cancelled before the trial was over and was still charged $349 for a service I explicitly said I did not want. Based on my experience, I absolutely would not recommend Collective. If you're considering signing up for their “free trial,” I strongly recommend getting their cancellation requirements in writing and asking them to explain exactly how a 30-day free trial works alongside a 30-day cancellation-notice requirement. As for the service itself, if you're already familiar with QuickBooks, I personally found Collective's platform to be a simplified, less useful version of functionality I already had access to. I expected a more hands-on accounting service. What I got was another platform to learn, another subscription, and ultimately a $349 charge I specifically tried to avoid.
SCAM. Worst decision ever
If you are a new business, you are better off going with services that will actually help you than be bound by Collective's limited pre-programmed pathways. You hv no control over who your Bookkeeper and Account Mgr are. Even if you get someone competent, they are bound by what Collective can do in their portal/system. Collective is still figuring things out and very inflexible in the meantime, so you end up being charged for things unnecessarily. Managing and categorizing your bank transactions is very cumbersome and makes you do extra work. There are so many other solutions that work better, but if you have paid Collective to be your one-stop shop, then you're tied to their extreme uselessness. What a waste of time and money!! To make things worse, I submitted a request to cancel my annual subscription 39 days before the end of term (They require 30 days notice), and yet they still continued to charge me for a new year! My experience of the portal is that it is inefficient and non-intelligent, and their service is very incompetent and tries its best to get you to pay for what you don't need. Not an ethical business.

Collective person had a zoom with me and walked me through a problem I was having then, followed up with additional information and had the skill to walk me through it but more importantly, continued to motivate me to keep trying to problem solve on my end. Problem is solved now.

I've had a great experience with Collective.com. The onboarding process was smooth, the platform is easy to use, and their team has been incredibly responsive whenever I had questions. They make business finances, bookkeeping, and taxes much less stressful, and everything feels well organized and professional. What I appreciate most is that they save me time and give me confidence that everything is being handled correctly. Their customer support is friendly, knowledgeable, and quick to help. Terrible onboarding experience, terrible service
Terrible onboarding experience, terrible service. This is just another service of many that small business owners get tricked into buying as an "all-in-one" solution for fundamental needs of a business owner. What a shame. They are not able to provide any "unlimited" tax guidance or CPA support and are completely unreachable on the weekends. Half their team is based in Philippines and are disconnected from their operations; in fact, all of their operations seem disconnected and don't talk to each other--I literally don't trust the payroll or results they delivered. Documents requested for additional info do not make sense, as they already should integrate with bank access granted to Collective via Plaid. The platform does not stand up to the experience it markets. Onboarding took 3 months to download data when it would take a regular bookkeeper probably less than 1 day to integrate. Get your act together, Collective. I won't be recommending this service to anyone, especially new small business owners. They deserve better and signing up with Collective has created more of a burden than actual service. Look elsewhere.

It's extremely expensive and very hard…
It's extremely expensive and very hard to use. I cancelled one day after payment was made and they are expecting me to pay another payment. It costs $349/month. NOT worth it.

Quarterly tax estimates
This is the first time I've actually used the full pay online for quarterly estimates through the Collective Dashboard and it made the whole process more efficient and easier to record and keep track of.

The chat bot did not give me timely answers
I ended up using Claude Ai to get the answers I need to proceed with my estimated tax payment. The copy provided by collective is direct however it can be interpreted a few ways when you get to steps 4-8.

Collective helped me understand my numbers
Collective helped me turn the lights on across segments of my business - understanding where I was generating profit and where I could cut back and invest less time. Service not as promised. Not US based.
Service was not what was sold. I was told that I would I have a dedicated account manager and that I could call in anytime for US based support. Not the case, onboarding was great but that is where the service stopped. Chatbot or message center for support. You have to schedule an appointment to talk to someone and the lead times are weeks out. When you do talk to someone they are clearly not US based. Not worth the money.
If your considering this company....don't.
The idea is good but it feels like they sell you on the idea and then put their JV team in to do book-keeping and taxes. Bookeeping is a mess. Taxes will never put you in touch with the person doing your taxes but have collective be the middle man where every question you ask takes over a week for a response. If your a small company that wants an easy S-corp solution....this is NOT it. I'll update the review if something changes.
