Clarity of progression and excellent administrative support
I signed up for iTeach to obtain my professional certification in Florida. It would be an extreme understatement to say that the certification process was NOT clearly explained by my school district and this led to an extreme time crunch when it came to completing all of my professional preparation coursework and field experience requirements.
One aspect of iTeach that I found extremely helpful was how they laid out the certification steps and requirements on their candidate landing page. This made it exceedingly clear what requirements or coursework needed to be met before progressing to the next stage of the process and iTeach helpfully checks off each item as they are completed.
Also noteworthy is that you can complete the assigned coursework at your own pace and you can progress in courses while waiting for previous assignments to be graded. On only one occasion did I have an iTeach instructor not grade an assignment within the 48 hour window expectation. Far more frequently, instructors graded my assignments the same day I completed them, including one instructor who would routinely grade assignments within hours, even when I submitted after midnight.
I also want to shout out Mr. Silvio Delgado, the director of iTeach Florida, for his hands on work and involvement in the program. As a special education and social studies teacher, my certification situation had some unique difficulties that caused some confusion with the certification and field experience process. When I reached out to iTeach over Winter break with some concerns, Mr. Delgado called me directly, on a weekend, to explain the process and requirements in detail. During my field experience, Mr. Delgado took the initiative to reach out to my assigned observer to explain the time constraints I was under to complete my certification, and at multiple other points throughout my time in the program, Mr. Delgado personally reached out to the Florida Department of Education to request clarification on my behalf, as it was literally not possible for me to get a straight answer from the state.
I highly recommend iTeach to prospective candidates.
The self-paced coursework was extremely beneficial as a first-year intern teacher. When pursuing my 7-12 math certification, I felt well-prepared by iTeach in the areas of instruction, vulnerable student populations, and pedagogy/teaching theory. I felt well prepared for my PPR exam, but I did have to consult many outside resources (aside from what iTeach provided) to feel well prepared for my Math 7-12 exam.
Overall, the iTeach curriculum was easy to navigate and complete. Some course instructors graded extremely harshly and/or it was clear they were using artificial intelligence to grade my submissions with the rubric. At times, the feedback I received on my assignment felt impersonal and extremely detailed. I poured 6-8 hours into certain submissions in order to get them to a passing score.
This facilitated my move to a new career. The online information great. The time frame is not flexible without extra fees. I am glad to have completed the process and my goals over time.
My experience was great overall, everything is online but you do still have deadlines. I think that is something iteach can improve on is communicating deadlines sooner, most of the time I didn’t get notified of deadlines till it was super close to it. I will say communication with staff and admin is great, most of the time it was a response right away.
Well organized and easy to follow. Feedback was always given quickly and my observer was amazing. My students loved when she came in to "visit" us at school.
Overall, iTeach was a wonderful alternative certification program. The fully online format made it easy to continue my education while working. The only stressful part was finding out that they only allow one attempt on the content exam. It forced me to stay hyper-focused since I didn't have a second chance, but I passed! My observer was also great, and I feel so blessed to have completed this journey.
My experience with iTeach Texas was a fantastic experience. The fact that I had time throughout each course/class to be with family (I became a grandfather in the middle of the coursework) for special events was nice - and low-stress. The instructors were always available through email to answer questions and give direction. The coursework was straightforward and informative for the prospective educator.
My experience started out rocky, but it improved significantly as I progressed through the program. One of the highlights was working with my program mentor. Her positive, constructive feedback boosted my confidence and encouraged my growth as an educator. She was supportive, motivating, and made a meaningful impact on my experience. iTeach provides valuable mentorship opportunities and resources for aspiring teachers. However, I initially found it difficult to get timely support and answers to my questions, and some responses came across as abrasive. Additionally, the amount of paperwork and assignments felt excessive at times. Reducing some of these requirements would allow candidates more time to focus on preparing for state certification exams. Overall, my experience improved over time, and I appreciated the support I received later in the program.
iteach is an amazing alternative program. Easy to navigate, full of resources throughout, and the couple times I reached out to fix an issue, the staff responded quickly and professionally and resolved the issue in less than 24hours (the only issues I had were a couple classes that didn’t appear on my dash board). I learned a great deal through iteach and would highly recommend to anyone looking to get certified!
