PURE Tung Oil

The Real Milk Paint Co is the only place I've been able to find PURE Tung Oil - which I use for oiling my wooden cutting boards. I'm not about to put a mixture of Tung and petroleum oils on the surfaces that I cut fruit and vegetables on! I don't want to ruin my stomach or anything else! It's perfect. The sample size is just enough to coat my two cutting boards; the oil dries to a hard surface after applied.

Wood Floors Hidden Underneath Old Carpeting

I pulled up old carpeting & underneath were beautiful wood floors that had glue & stains on it, as well as being dry. I wanted a product that was natural & decided to try a small size of your half & half milk paint then bought the gallon size afterwards. After viewing the videos on how to do floors, I proceeded as instructed. I did grind & sand the floors then mopped up all dust particles with an old rag & applied the milk paint with a foam roller, which worked perfectly. As the floor was dry, I had to apply several coats. The fumes are strong if you don't have adequate ventilation for at least the first day. Now the floors smell like a fresh citrus scent. I am doing 1/3 strip sections of a room at a time, as we have no place to move our furniture. When one section is dry, I move the furniture to the completed section & start on the next section. Overlapping coverage on the strips doesn't affect the look of the floor - you can't spot where it overlapped. Although I couldn't remove all the stains, the furniture covers most of them. I could have used their Oxalic Acid Wood Bleach, but I wanted the floor to look like a natural, old-time floor. I have pine floors & the golden/somewhat reddish brown hues in the half & half blend in naturally with the other wood colors of the furniture. The more the half & half dries, the more beautiful it becomes. I am doing my entire house in the half & half milk paint. It isn't like a paint or varnish. It just soaks into the wood. The feel of the finished wood is like silk. I am so thankful I used this product first - I won't ever use anything else.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience in such wonderful detail! We recently uncovered a batch of older reviews that had been missed, and reading about your floor restoration was a highlight for our team. It sounds like you did a fantastic job following the process, from the sanding to the foam roller application—and we love your tip about working in sections to manage the furniture! It’s great to hear that the 'Half & Half' (our blend of Pure Tung Oil and Citrus Solvent) gave you that silky, natural finish you were looking for. We hope that after completing the rest of your home, you are still enjoying those beautiful pine floors every day. Thank you for being such a fan of our products!

Service was great and delivery was prompt. Very much appreciated. I understand the market today, but I was a little surprised that the same barrel I bought 15 months ago was $900 less then today.??? in other words, the barrel that I just bought was $900 more , ouch

Very prompt attention to questions and order fulfillment.

I wrote a short email with questions before I purchased any paint. My questions were answered the next day. I made an online purchase which was filled very quickly. I look forward to receiving the paint.

Wood Wax for drawer sliders

I bought. a vintage dresser and the drawers were sticking and very difficult to open. I used the wood wax on the drawer sliders and they glide beautifully.

This is my first time using tung oil. . .

This is my first time using tung oil, so there was a bit of a learning curve. We decided to use the Half and Half tung oil for our new walnut flooring after ordering a sample and testing it on a piece of the flooring. We have about 1400 SF of walnut flooring. The orders arrived very quickly, typically in about 3 days. Over 2 orders, we purchased 7 gallons of H&H and one gallon of citrus-based solvent. As mentioned, this was our first time using tung oil, so we purchased 4 gallons of the H&H. We applied it as indicated in the website instruction and Q&As. . . or, so we thought. After applying 3 coats of the straight H&H around Thanksgiving, the floor looked shiny, which meant we had enough oil on it. However, we noticed the floor was getting lighter each day after a few days. Also, water was not beading up on the floor. Well, guess we didn't put enough oil on it! So, we ordered 3 gallons of H&H and 1 gallon of solvent. I worked on reapplying the oil between Christmas and New Year's but decided to cut the H&H by 25% with additional solvent to help it penetrate. That did the trick! All totaled, we applied around 8 coats in addition to lots of "spot" treatments on areas that were absorbing more oil than the surrounding area. It's been about 3 weeks since we finished the final section of the flooring. The color/tint of the walnut has remained the same. More importantly, the water is beading up and not being absorbed into the wood, which creates water spots on the flooring. One other tidbit is I started with a foam roller. For the second application, I changed to a painting pad meant for stain application on decking. I like how I had better control over the application. It also seemed to go into the wood better because I was scrubbing it in. That probably wasn't the case, and the thinner mix of tung oil helped with the penetration. Overall, we're very pleased with how it turned out. Our friends have commented on how beautiful and rich the floor looks.

Hi David, thanks for the detailed review! Really appreciate the thorough sharing of your experience. We're sure that future customers will appreciate the added insight. Glad to hear you're pleased with the end results!

Great Quality and Color

Ordered the gallon and really appreciated the ease of use of the pail and included marble. Do recommend letting the paint sit longer than recommended to better dissolve the powder. The Blue Spruce color came out a muted forrest green and dried lighter than it looked when applied. Super happy! Will definitely buy from the Real Milk paint again.

Hey there, thanks for your review! Glad to here you're happy with our Blue Spruce milk paint!

My new first stop.

Great products, reasonably priced and delivered quickly. Hard to beat! We picked up some half and half, board oil and board wax. The half and half make our butcher block countertops beautiful and functional. The board oil is great for maintaining our other cutting boards. The board wax hasn't been used, yet, but eager to check it out. I only wish we found these folks earlier in our project. We'll be back time and time again, though. A+ service, products and pricing.

Hi Albs, thanks for your review! We wish we found each other sooner too, cheers to the future!

Milk Paint experience

I used milk paint to paint an IKEA cabinet that I’d sanded. Then I covered the paint with clear soft wax. That was the hard part. I got better at waxing as I went along, but parts of the cabinet look kind of streaky, although it looks great from a distance. So I’m leaving it the way it is, and since it’s from IKEA I’m pretending the paint job is a recently revived old Swedish art form.

Hi Mary, thanks for your review and sharing your experience! Sometimes buffing with a soft cloth can help even out the wax. Milk paint by nature can have a slightly streaky look. Each color is a bit different in how much that shows through. Hope that helps!
