The loan was usurious

The loan was usurious, the rates displayed were bait and switch (2.x%, then underneath in smaller letters "up to 17.xx%), the rate was not disclosed til all the information was entered. I had called a few times to get how the rate was calculated before i signed the loan. Sallie Mae did not give me the information, nor point to a web site where I could find it. There should be one. I looked. My very high credit score got a disappointing 13.xx% rate.

Having a parent co-sign who has an 800 credit score should not leave the student with a 17.50% interest rate. When I called and asked about why our interest rate was so high I was told it was because of many factors including bills being paid on time. You don't have a 800 credit score with bills not being paid on time! It was an absurd statement, but we have to get a loan and these companies know that so they take advantage which is disgusting.

I strongly discourage anyone from borrowing through Sallie Mae unless you have absolutely no other options. Charging college students interest rates of 14% or more is outrageous. Young adults who are simply trying to get an education are being saddled with loan terms that can keep them in debt for decades. Instead of helping students build a future, these loans can set them up for financial hardship from the very beginning. With interest rates this high, borrowers often end up paying far more in interest than they originally borrowed, making it feel impossible to get ahead. Many graduates spend 20 years or more trying to repay these loans while delaying major life milestones like buying a home, starting a family, or saving for retirement. It's disgraceful that students pursuing higher education are charged rates that resemble high-interest consumer debt. Education should be an investment in your future, not a financial burden that follows you for decades. Sallie Mae needs to do better by offering fairer interest rates and more borrower-friendly repayment options.
