Great activities

Hi there My 9 year old does like schoolbo activities and stories. The only issue I have is that I can't log in on different device.

Reply from Skoolbo2018-08-06

Fantastic that your 9 year old is enjoying the activities and stories! You should be able to log in on multiple devices. Skoolbo is created such that you can use on pretty much any device over the web, or via downloadable iOS, Android, PC and Mac apps. Please contact [email protected] if you continue to have any issues on multiple devices.

My daughter really loves the stories…

My daughter really loves the stories and manages the layout of the website. She struggles with the presentation of the maths concepts and there are American terms in the UK vocabulary videos (pants = trousers), as well as an American accent in the literacy videos which is confusing with the phonic sounds. The language learning isn't very child friendly, visual prompts would help.

Very pleased to hear your daughter loves the stories! We do purposely have a range of accents to help children get used to English across the world. Skoolbo accents are structured as follows: Learning Activities: There are over 50,000 questions with audio files with either US, UK, Australian or New Zealand accent. In your case, your daughter would be receiving the UK accent. Lessons: These are conducted by animated characters with an underlying US accent. We have chosen to do this to increase the level of engagement for children. Stories: A mixture of US, UK and AUS accents Language Lessons: By native speakers. By default the language learning has to be actively pressed by the child and yes that makes it less child friendly. If you want a particular language then it's a great idea to go in to the Learning Settings within the Parent Dashboard and select it as part of the Daily Challenge - this will mean that language activities will come up automatically for your daughter. Many thanks for your feedback and I hope this helps clarify!

Super Service and App

Really quick response to the signing up issue I had. Sorted quickly, professionally and politely. Skoolbo has been great so far with my 4.4 year old really engaging. (as a parent the talking trophy is a bit irritating but doesn’t seem to bother the small which is what matters).

I found the system speaking very quickly which made it difficult for my child to follow. Is there a Australian version.

Reply from Skoolbo2018-08-05

We're sorry to hear that your child is finding it difficult to follow. Yes there is an Australian version (as well as US, UK and NZ). Skoolbo includes a range of accents: Learning Activities: There are over 50,000 questions with audio files with either US, UK, Australian or New Zealand accent. In your case, your daughter would be receiving the AUS accent on these activities. Lessons: These are conducted by animated characters with an underlying US accent. We have chosen to do this to increase the level of engagement for children. Stories: A mixture of US, UK and AUS accents Language Lessons: By native speakers. For younger children it will also be helpful for parents to do the Skoolbo Daily Challenge together. This will enable more learning to take place. Please don't hesitate to reach out to our Support desk or to call our Australian office on 02 6147 7987 if we can be of any assistance.

Skoolbo for Home Education

Recommended if your child enjoys learning through games - bright colours and cartoon-style characters; good variety of subjects; daily challenges and in-game ‘rewards’ of animated characters to collect. We have only just started using this, but so far my children (8 & 10) love it and choose to play it most days. Customer support seems good too.

Lots of educational material presented in a fun way. Very enjoyable for children across a range of ages and brilliant for my home educated children and also found out it was being used by a friend of the family’s schooled child too who also thoroughly enjoys it. Very comprehensive!

Teacher's best friend

This is a great review for students of all levels. I use it with my special needs students to help them review lower level concepts in a fun way. This also keeps the students motivated to learn so that they do better on Skoolbo, get more prizes and animals. I share this with all of my teacher friends that are looking for a great way to get students excited to keep learning.

Thanks, Kari It is absolutely wonderful to hear that your students love learning on Skoolbo. We have built Skoolbo so that all may thrive and efficiently learn the key fundamentals of literacy, numeracy, art, science, and geography regardless of age and ability. Please keep spreading the good word and we look forward to bringing even more excitement into many more classrooms. Kindest Team Skoolbo

This used to be a great site with…

This used to be a great free site with engaging materials, adjusting algorithms to differentiate, global awareness and tracking for the teacher. I have been told that with subscription there are many great resources and activities. Unfortunately we are not able to access the full resource without subscription now. Recently they have felt that it is necessary to get parent details and consent, which I feel is too presumptuous of willingness to give data that may be used to solicit future family subscriptions. With regret I have had do delete my classes and move to use some of the responsible, free educational sites. I feel let down, as I have encouraged many other colleagues to use this resource. I now have to contact them to delete their classes before the April deadline. I do wish the company success and appreciate that they need to fund the product, but feel I need to avoid the impression that parents have to share data with the company.

Hi Robert, With the introduction of GDPR and the changing issues around audio recording (see the ongoing debate around Google Home, Alexa etc...) which can be a very valuable tool for learning we have taken the common sense and prudent step to ensure parents give informed consent for these issues. Rather than introduce one rule for the UK and another for Australia, America etc... we have introduced this procedure across all our schools to reassure that we are compliant with this higher standard which is already being mirrored in Canada etc... In this way, we believe we are being a responsible company by alerting schools and parents in this manner. All parents can clearly see the data we hold, their child's improvement scores and control any correspondence with us. Kindest, Team Skoolbo

Loading the page and games takes a pretty long time, but once the students get logged on, they love the site. They enjoy creating their own avatars and playing games with students from other schools across the country. Teacher access is very beneficial.

We are constantly having trouble logging on a whole class at the same time. It wastes so much time so we've given up.

Reply from Skoolbo2018-03-08

Hi Elisabeth, Really sorry to hear that your whole class has not been able to play. Unfortunately, some schools do have problems with network overload. To get around this, teachers often split their classes and have different groups work on Skoolbo at different times, with one group getting on with other activities. A second option is to concentrate on the learning games within Skoolbo, which use less bandwidth than the video lessons. We really want to help so please do not hesitate to reach out to us at any time on [email protected] so we can assist you with any issues. Kindest, Team Skoolbo

Older version was so much better

Older version was so much better. My kids preferred playing the older version of Skoolbo. They liked saving up to buy things and playing challenges against their friends. They are not interested in the latest version at all and I would definitely not consider subscribing. I would've subscribed to the older version if that was an option.

Dear Jess, Thank you for sharing your experiences. The new Skoolbo involved a five-fold increase in content, which necessitated changes to the interface and rewards mechanisms. And we are pleased to see that for the most part, this has gone down very well with a considerable increase in usage and learning outcomes being seen. We are also pleased to note that within the app, students are still able to play the much loved 3D-racing learning games. We can assure you that a tremendous amount of “blood, sweat and tears”, along with enormous passion, has gone into Skoolbo. We do hope you will come to find the new version an extremely valuable learning tool. Please don't hesitate to contact us at [email protected] for any other concerns you may have or for any additional support. Best, Team Skoolbo

My students have been having problems…

My students have been having problems with Skoolbo freezing up on them. This started January 26th, and it's still unresolved. So, we haven't been able to use it for weeks. It seemed to start after ALL the version updates that started in November I believe.

Reply from Skoolbo2018-03-14

Dear Candra, Many thanks for sharing your feedback; as you know, our team is in touch with you and our development team is doing its best to try and resolve the very unusual problem you're facing. As you may appreciate, glitches that are not common or that cannot be replicated on testing devices do take longer to investigate. Again, we thank you for your patience, and we hope to find a solution to your problem soon. Kindest, Team Skoolbo

I would recommend this.

Skoolbo review

I liked Skoolbo last year when it was on the app and when the students could go to the store to buy things. This year they have to earn the snazzimals- some kids were able to earn them within weeks, some kids weren't until months later. Some of the games that they unlock are fun like the car racing one that teaches them to spell. However, there's a game that requires jumping and ducking with the up and down arrows but the arrows were nowhere to be found so my students were very confused. I also feel like some of the math questions are way above first grade level.

Reply from Skoolbo2018-03-02

Dear Katherine, Thank you for sharing your experiences. The new Skoolbo involved a five-fold increase in content which necessitated some changes to the interface and rewards mechanisms. Every child is equally able to collect the Snazzimals rewards as they are tied to effort as opposed to skill level. The Skoolbo Learning Algorithm serves individualized content based on the child’s past performance. At times this results in content significantly off grade level, however this is done to best meet the child’s individual needs. Teachers and parents are able to over-ride the Learning Algorithm. Please contact us at [email protected] for any clarifications. Kindest, Team Skoolbo
