Being an au pair in America 12 years ago was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture, improve my English, and grow both personally and professionally. What makes this experience truly special is that, even after 12 years, I am still in contact with my host family and with the amazing friends I met during my stay. They have become an important part of my life, and many of those relationships feel like family rather than friendships. Living with an American family allowed me to experience everyday life in the United States in a way that no vacation ever could. I created unforgettable memories, traveled, gained confidence, and developed skills that continue to benefit me today. I highly recommend the au pair experience with AU PAIR IN AMERICA, I am very grateful for the support and professionalism of the agency, which helped make this experience so positive and memorable. I would highly recommend the au pair program to anyone looking for a life-changing cultural exchange experience.

I reached out to my LCC Debra in…
I reached out to my LCC Debra in Pittsburgh multiple times because I was not happy, but Debra was not willing to help me. She passed on the messages I had sent her in confidence to the host family behind my back. She breached confidentiality and was not impartial. Plus she was corrupt and protected the host family ( infact, they even told me). Until the very end she showed me, that she didnt really have an interest in mediating between the aupair and the host family. If Debra would have done her job, im sure my experience would have been different. So if you pick apia, make sure you dont end up in this cluster in Pittsburgh, zero stars for Debra.

Great with children, but the program needs improvement
I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Au Pair program and for the chance to experience life in another country. Working with children has been the most rewarding part of this journey for me, and it has reinforced how much I truly enjoy spending time with them. However, my experience has also had challenges. During my time in the program I went through two rematches and lived with three different families. These situations were not easy, but they taught me a lot about adaptation, communication, and knowing my own values and boundaries. I believe the program could continue improving the screening and preparation process for host families and Au Pairs, so that expectations are clearer and both sides can truly experience the cultural exchange the program promotes. I would also like to highlight that my current LCC has been an incredible support. She has truly made me feel heard and supported during difficult moments. Her guidance and kindness played a big role in my decision to stay and finish the program, and I will always appreciate that. One thing that was disappointing for me was not being allowed to change my program status to IQ after arriving in the United States. I understand there are policies, but this decision limited some opportunities for me. If I had known this earlier, I might have considered making that change before coming to the U.S. Despite the difficulties, I appreciate the lessons I have learned and the people I have met along the way. I will continue doing my best to complete my program in a positive and professional way. Thank you for the opportunity and for the experiences that have helped me grow.

If I could leave no stars I would
If I could leave no stars I would. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! If you have any issues with their au pairs and need to request a refund be ready for them to quote you a low amount. They calculate the time you had child care as longer than you actually had child care and try to short you on your refund. When you press on it they just keep giving the same answer. No explanation as to why- just this is the amount of refund. We had child care for 3 months. they are calculating it as 4months. They are refusing to consider the additional $1560.42 extension fee we were charged in the refund calculation and are only using the initial amount of $10,700. They are quoting $5777 refund out of $12260.42 paid to them for 3 mo of care. They are using a table that assumes we had care for 4 months and had only paid $10,700. Pointing out the issues with this calculation has fell on deaf ears so far. PLEASE I DON'T WANT ANYONE ELSE TO HAVE TO SUFFER AS I HAVE. AVOID THIS COMPANY!

⭐️ **1 Star** **Extremely disappointing after 8 years** After 8 years with Au Pair In America, we were shocked by how poorly we were treated. An au pair asked for a rematch after telling us we were “too American,” waited until after a major vacation to do so, and then refused to continue watching our children. Instead of helping us reconcile the situation or supporting us as a long-standing host family with a stellar track record, the agency simply removed us from the program and refused to allow us to find a rematch. We expected professionalism and support, especially after years of commitment to their program. Unfortunately, Au Pair In America failed us when we needed them most. I would strongly caution any family considering this agency.

An Unforgettable Journey
I can’t say that everything has been perfect, but I can definitely say that APIA has never left me alone throughout the process. They always guide you, support you, and if you have questions, there is always someone there to help. I’ve been here for 6 months now, riding this emotional roller coaster, but happy to be discovering so much about this country and grateful for this experience that has meant so much to me 🙌🏼

Choose au pair in America as my au pair agency was the best choice I could have ever made! They answer super fast, they’re always helpful, they have a lot of families, and they care about their au pairs way much more than other agency!

Terrible experience
The administration and staff running this program seem more focused on charging extra fees than providing genuine support. If you try to leave, they make the process unnecessarily difficult—it almost feels like a scam. They consistently find ways to squeeze more money out of you. Highly disappointing and frustrating.

My Aupiar journey
I’ve started my Aupair’s process with aupair in America about a year ago and had an amazing experience, they were with me every step of the way until I got to the host family house. I enjoyed the orientation in New York a lot and met amazing people during and at cluster meetings. APIA is a very good agency and is there for you all the way no matter what!

My profile was archived and I was told to contact someone for help,which I did. I had all the documents I was still putting together.Only to be told that I can not continue with the application unless I have a host family. I'm from Kenya. It does not make sense because the sole reason for this platform is to match the aupair to the host families.Meanwhile my friends from Kenya are in the site and uploading documents for matching. It's not fair.

Our experience with Au Pair in America has been deeply frustrating and disappointing. We relied on this agency to provide accurate, reliable guidance—especially when it came to something as significant as international travel with our au pair. We were told directly and clearly, on multiple occasions, that our au pair was cleared to travel with us on a cruise. We booked the trip in good faith, trusting the word of their representative. Only after making travel plans and incurring substantial costs did we find out that this information was incorrect. The agency has since refused to take any accountability, citing technicalities and fine print, and completely dismissing the fact that their own staff gave us verbal confirmation that influenced our decisions. This isn’t just about a mistake—it’s about the complete lack of responsibility and support when that mistake impacted our family’s time, money, and trust. What’s most concerning is the agency’s unwillingness to stand behind the advice their representatives give. If you’re a family considering this program, be warned: you must question everything, document every conversation, and know that even clear verbal confirmation from their staff means nothing if it goes wrong. This has been a painful and expensive lesson. I would urge others to proceed with extreme caution.
