Etsy does not allow negative reviews for a seller that cancels orders. I recently bought China plates from seven different sellers on Etsy. I have received cancelation notices from 3, thisoldattic48 by Richard, SandyHookVillage and Ardesh. 2 couldnt locate the items and 1 found them all broken. Sloppy business practices. If they felt they were under priced, which I suspect, they should in all 3 cases keep accurate track of their inventory. I asked for pictures of the broken plates and of course they had already been hopelessly destroyed.

Where did the quality and uniqueness go?
A few years ago I would have given Etsy a 5 star rating. It used to be the place to go for unique, handcrafted and vintage items. Now thanks to the growing enshitification we see everywhere, the site is just flooded with cheap Temu / Shien style products. I don't enjoy searching this platform like I used to.

Useless API, receipts without buyer's address info
Useless support. API returning receipts without buyer's address information. Therefore orders can't be processed towards our CMS for order fulfillment.
Support keeps pointing at the buyer's address being present in the confirmation e-mail, let's get back to the Stonehenge and copy buyer's information for each order?
Ironic and tragic. Shortlisted Etsy for API integrations among others? Be sure to integrate the others first, Etsy is a total disaster.

Etsy cannot be trusted
Etsy is not what it was. It’s not handmade. In fact it’s hard to weed through all of the China factory made products being pawned off as made in the US or handmade. One seller lied about the dimensions of a bag giving the dimensions before the bag is sewn. I messaged multiple times. As long as the seller responds at all it won’t trigger Etsy to help. When I tried to get Etsy involved they refused to help saying that this is not a violation of their policies. I hope a new platform can be made in its place.
I purchased a linen flat sheet for £90 but they never sent it and were now no longer on Etsy. I informed Etsy, they investigated then refunded the full £90. So I was very satisfied with their response to my problem.

Fix the search engine
Trying to find a men's necklace featuring a particular stone, mahogany obsidian, running exactly those terms, and what I get is:
the first two results are black onyx, so not even remotely close; more and more of those and other stones listed throughout the actual spot on hits; numerous bracelets despite specifying necklace as the search term; and it goes on and on. When I tried various ways to narrow the search results, it got even worse, more and more stones not even remotely related to what I was looking for, bracelets, anklets, pendants without or cord and vice versa. It used to be fun searching on Etsy, whether I'd find what I wanted or not, now it's total frustration because whatever AI tool or algorithm they employ, it has no idea what's going on.

Etsy is scamming active advertisers! My shop was banned by a broken bot the exact day they issued a $43 invoice for ads and Etsy Plus subscription. I actively tried to pay, but they locked me out. Support ignores Ticket #26155565. Real designer treated like a scammer. Give me my shop back!

Nightmare to negotiate
Nightmare to negotiate. Paid for downloads as a guest user but unable to access them without signing in. However. I cannot sign in without changing my original password (stored in my Apple app I may add). And I cannot create a new password because the reset link does not work!! The supplied web address that is automatically included when the reset button does not work does not work either!!! Waste of time let alone money. Never again!

Venus flytrap scheme
I purchased some Venus flytrap plants from a vendor. Instead of sending plants, the vendor sent seeds. After following the return protocol, the vendor did not issue a refund—and Etsy did nothing about it. Etsy is purely a seller’s tool for scamming buyers. Use reputable platforms like eBay that support both buyers and sellers in an equitable manner. AVOID ETSY if you don’t like getting ripped off!
Etsy used to be a site for unique well-made crafts and other goods. Recently, I was glad to see the ‘Meet Your Seller’ bios included with every item on their site. But then I tried ordering a couple of dresses and found that they were from the same fraudulent Chinese scam companies as Amazon uses. Both the pictures of clothing and the Meet Your Seller bios are fake AI. Thankfully, Etsy immediately refunded my money in full. I have gotten other items on Etsy that were good so I won’t entirely give up on it. But never clothes again.

Etsy failed me as a buyer
Etsy failed me as a buyer. My order was affected by the new EU customs rules, but Etsy neither informed me nor ensured the shipment complied with them. They also calculated the 30-day claim deadline from an impossible delivery date—the same day the item was shipped from the US to Portugal. When I tried to open a claim, it was no longer possible because of Etsy’s own incorrect deadline. Support refused to correct the error, telling me to contact the seller instead. The seller has stopped responding, will receive the item back, and I have lost my money. Completely unacceptable.

Etsy Are Scammers 100% Without a Shadow of a Doubt!
I’m a real person, and I’m using AI to help write this review simply because I don’t have the time to type everything out myself — but the experience I’m describing is 100% real.
I recently opened a seller account on Etsy, completed all the required steps, verified my identity, connected my payment details, and uploaded my products exactly as instructed. After doing everything correctly, Etsy permanently closed my account without warning and without giving any explanation of what policy I supposedly violated.
Their Trust & Safety team sent me a generic message saying the decision was final and could not be appealed. They refused to tell me what rule I broke, refused to provide any details, and refused to reconsider the closure. I was left with no information, no reason, and no way to fix anything.
This experience felt extremely unfair and non‑transparent. Etsy allowed me to invest time and effort into setting up my shop, only to shut it down instantly with no explanation. As a small creator trying to start a digital business, this was incredibly discouraging and felt like a complete waste of time.
I’m sharing this so other new sellers know that Etsy can close accounts without warning and without telling you why. The lack of transparency and inability to appeal is unacceptable for a platform of this size.
Etsy’s customer support and buyer protection were a massive disappointment. I received a faulty, incomplete item from a seller who refused to issue a prepaid return label. Instead of stepping in to hold the seller accountable, Etsy allowed the seller to stall, run out the clock, and attempt to scam the customer without offering a real solution. Ultimately, Etsy’s platform was useless for resolving disputes. I had to open a case through PayPal, who reviewed the clear evidence of the defect and immediately refunded my money in full. My advice to buyers: Etsy is only good as a search engine to discover products. If you find something you like, check the seller’s reviews outside of Etsy first (on Google, Trustpilot, or social media), and if they are legit, buy directly from the seller's independent website instead. Etsy provides no real protection when things go wrong.

Goods fail to arrive
Items from 2 separate sellers failed to arrive. Correspondence from both were zero. Eventually both sellers sent a "we have cancelled your order" 8 days after they should of arrived. If they have no intention of sending good then don't have a selling site on etsy. One refund came quickly but still awaiting the other. Will never buy from etsy again

Ive been a seller on Esty for over 5 years. I have a 5 star rating on the bags that i sell. Handmade, original. My customers love them. Etsy support send me an email to confirm my id. Ive handed it every detail they asked for amd my shop still got closed. It scares my how the take all my information, ID, bank, social security everything.. and still suspend my account. I have appeald and contacten suppor many many times but just end up in a loop hole. What is happening etsy.. people getting scammed left right and centre on your website and the real people behind the real shops get kicked out..
