it isn't a bad, but I paid something in 3 installments. The problem was that the full amount was still reserved from my creditcard, effectively still costing me the full price at time of purchase. This completely nullifies the use of installments. I got several subscription payments that were denied because this cc reservation locked my entire credit. Edit July 21 2026: I'll respond to the reply within an edit, because there's no other way. The "temporary authorization (hold)" is not temporary, it blocks my creditcard limit in such a way that there's nothing else I can do with it. It'll be fine after all installments are processed, or so I hope. Maybe it works differently with other creditcards, but I don't have to pay any interest, loans or fees as long as I pay my monthly bills on time. Due to the way this is being processed, I may have the credit still on my card, but I can't do anything with it because it is reserved, making it essentially useless. Therefore, there is no difference for me and my account whether I had paid it in installments of in one go. reply from splitit: Thank you for sharing your experience! There is some weird problem with ABN…
There is some weird problem with ABN amro credit card and this Split. I payed off 3/6 but for some reason 5/6 still locked on my account. I contacted Split. They blame my bank. The problem is that I have to top-up my credit card more in order for Split to be able to take monthly payment, because they are blocked so much of my credit and not using it! Update: Splitit’s reply to this review was a generic explanation of how pre-authorization works — it did not address the actual issue (the hold not decreasing proportionally after payments). I’m lowering my rating due to this template response

One is a temporary authorization (hold); this is not a charge and you do not pay this amount. 1. It is simply a pre-authorization, which is standard for many other types of purchases on your credit card (think hotels, gasoline, etc.). 2. The other is the first installment charge. 1. Each month after, your installment payment is automatically charged until your plan is complete. Splitit installment plans work using your available credit card balance. Shysters!!
When they started to decided to charge me $228.84 monthly for a service I never signed up for. The total charge for 12 months is $2746.11. I had made five payments. I was finally able to communicate with. They canceled the remainder of my plan and they were to issue a credit back. Now I find out that they applied my credit towards my remaining balance. What balance?!?!? You canceled the the rest of my "contract" that I never approved in the first case! I will never deal with WHOP or Splitit again. They're just a bunch of shysters who only care about their bottom line!!

It May Not Work As You Think
It was not very clear how the system worked. I was under the impression the full amount would be submitted only to see if I had enough credit to cover the balance. There was no clue that it was a permanent hold on the card.

Very easy to set up. They waited a couple days after the shipment to charge me.
Little confusing
Yes, it was all very simple but a little confusing because I seem to be charged the first month and the full amount simultaneously I have to spend time on the phone to my credit card company. Obviously it was absolutely fine because the full amount seem to drop off, but I wish I’d known that.
They are impossible to get hold of if…
They are impossible to get hold of if you have issues. They refused to follow up with our issues and came back 6 mos later with threats to charge me almost 20,000 for a program that was cancelled in February. Impossible to get hold of no contact information anywhere. THE WORST!!! NEVER USE
