DONT TRUST - Leave you to find for yrou self or pay more
I trusted Bench Accounting to professionally manage my bookkeeping and tax preparation. Instead, their errors created tax issues that I am still dealing with today—problems I have never experienced in my life before using their service.
What made this experience even more disappointing was the complete lack of accountability after Bench became MainStreet. Although they continue operating under the Bench name and retained its customers and intellectual property, I was told they assumed "no liability" for the work previously performed. From a customer's perspective, it's still the same Bench brand, but when it came time to stand behind the quality of the work, they simply refused responsibility.
The proposed solution was unbelievable: if I wanted help fixing the mistakes that Bench made, I would need to become a paying customer again. In other words, I was expected to pay the same company, using the same brand, to correct errors I had already paid them to avoid in the first place. That is not a resolution—it is asking a customer to pay twice because the original work was done incorrectly.
While the representative was polite and apologized, there was no meaningful effort to make things right. The only option presented was to purchase services again. No review of the prior work, no goodwill assistance, and no recognition of the financial and emotional burden caused by their mistakes.
Professional accounting services are built on accuracy, trust, and accountability. Mistakes can happen, but how a company responds defines its integrity. In my experience, Bench/MainStreet failed that test. Their bookkeeping errors caused ongoing tax problems, cost me additional time and money, and left me searching elsewhere for help.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but after months of dealing with issues that originated from their work and receiving no real support beyond an invitation to pay them again, I cannot recommend Bench Accounting or MainStreet. Customers deserve a company that stands behind its work instead of distancing itself when serious mistakes come to light. and they stop responding...

Do not trust Bench with your bookkeeping and tax needs
I have been a customer of Bench for over 7 years. I allowed them to do the bookkeeping for 2 of my entities/companies. Each year, they fell short.. each year, there was a struggle.. each year.. tax returns were filed late.
I silently pulled one of my companies away, to move to other vendor.. but the one that remained.. i had stuck with them throughout the bankruptcy.. and their constant struggles of getting their tax department in order..
The nail in the coffin came this year when i find out that they did not file my 2023 corporate taxes until 2026.. and personal taxes were not filed since 2022.. they were paid to do both..
Then, their staff kept mixing one entity up with another, mixing up names.. making promises that someone competent will get on the job.. but it never happened.. a "manager" was involved.. but she didn't do anything but make more promises.. nobody took accountability
I asked them for a full refund, but they took 0 accountability and refused to negotiate on something that made sense other than "lets give it another shot".
Do not trust your business with Bench.. truly a crappy company. They have cost me thousands in penalties and opportunities because taxes were not filed in a timely fashion. Horrible horrible company.
Note: they have constant turnover, and names and faces changes constantly.. and of course they outsource to other countries.

Our company has been using Bench…
Our company has been using Bench Accounting Services for a number of years. The only way it works is if you delegate one low level person to work through their poor technology and support. Then you may find a benefit on the savings they try to pass on. If you are frustrated by poor quality tech and bad customer service then this company is not for you.
When I started my business, I spent two years trying to keep up with my bookkeeping while also serving my clients. The end of the year always revealed what a mistake that was - a colleague suggested Bench.co, I did my research and cost comparison, and have been with Bench since 2017. They have worked with me as my business needs have changed; they helped me navigate the pandemic, and because of their clean, timely bookkeeping, I was able to get the support I needed to keep my business afloat during those uncertain years. Also, their integration with Gusto is a huge win for me as I was already using that service, and it's helped me have 2 fewer things to worry about. I have had a few transitions with bookkeepers supporting my account, and they have never missed a beat. I recommend them to all my clients and colleagues. Truly makes this a no-brainer, and my experience has been lovely.

5 years with Bench
I’ve worked with Bench for about five years now, I’ve had three really great bookkeepers. They keep track of everything across my business, and it is actually very easy to communicate with them. Some of bookkeepers that I’ve had with have been better than others but the one that I have right now Oumer is extremely good and just so on top of everything. He’s extremely organized and really goes above and beyond, it has made a huge difference for tax season and he is the reason that I’m sticking around with Bench.
I truly think the experience is dependent on the bookkeeper that you get, I’ve stuck with Bench through the years because I have everything consolidated into a dashboard and it makes planning for quarterly much easier. There’s a lot of tools and products out there, but truly I think if you get the right bookkeeper, it will make the biggest difference in your business ever.

This service makes taking care of the books for our small ecommerce business very seamless. This is going on our 3rd year using…
This is going on our 3rd year using Bench. I started off using Quickbooks and tried to do it all myself but not knowing exactly what I was doing as well as not staying on top of it was becoming a nightmare. We started using Bench, it took a some time for them to learn our business but now they seem to have everything in order and rarerly have to ask for information from me. I've generally had a good experience…
I've generally had a good experience with Bench over the years. Originally I chose them to help me get things up to date after I got behind while doing my books on my own. Before the whole ownership change debacle it was very difficult to get my books done on time, but after that it has been much better. My bookkeeper Hafsa is wonderful, I recommend her! I am currently switching out to a different bookkeeping system, but mostly because the price has gotten to be a bit much for me. I wish it did not cost so much per month. But other than that things have been going well!

I’ve had a rather delightful experience…
I’ve had a rather delightful experience since Jane has taken over my books at Bench. She has contacted me on things that may have been missing and need updating or reconnection.
The tax service has been decent but sometimes when I schedule a call with someone I do not receive one and have to schedule a second call, which is typically a couple weeks away. This is something to be aware of.
They would receive 5 stars if I received all phone calls and maybe their tax department was a little cheaper or more consistent in communication.

I have been with Bench for 4 year and have enjoyed how it creates less work for me. My only complaint is the accountant turn over I think I have probably had 10-12 different people which can be frustrating. Retention would be beneficial.
