Danette Soriano’s Dismissive Handling of My Boat Trader Complaint

I paid a substantial fee to advertise my boat through Boat Trader. My complaint is not simply that the boat did not sell. Boat Trader’s malfunctioning website prevented me from lowering the asking price before my listing expired. Had I been able to lower the price as intended, the boat might have attracted more interest or sold. I repeatedly tried to contact Boat Trader through its official online support system, but it did not work. I eventually had to contact the company through social media just to obtain assistance. By the time anyone responded, valuable listing time had been lost while my boat remained advertised at the wrong price. Danette Soriano was the Boat Trader customer service representative assigned to handle my complaint after I finally received a response. I repeatedly explained the website failure, my unsuccessful attempts to obtain support, the lost listing time, and why I believed my original listing fee should be refunded. Instead of meaningfully engaging with those concerns, Danette repeatedly responded in a cold, dismissive, and defensive manner. This was not one unhelpful reply or a simple misunderstanding. I tried multiple times to explain the situation, request a refund, and obtain an actual resolution, but she continued to avoid or dismiss the substance of my complaint. When I specifically requested that the matter be escalated to a supervisor or manager, that request was ignored. Danette then stopped responding entirely. No one apologized for the broken website, the nonfunctioning support system, the lengthy delay, or the fact that I was prevented from changing an important part of my paid advertisement. Boat Trader charges premium prices but did not provide a functional website or reasonable customer support. I am still requesting a full refund of my original listing fee, a written apology, and management review of how Danette Soriano handled and ultimately ignored my complaint.

Thank you for sharing this. We're sorry your experience wasn't smoother. We were able to locate your account and we'd welcome the chance to go over what happened. Please note that our social media channels are not an official support line, so messages sent there can take longer to reach our team. However, support is a priority for us so as soon as we saw your message, we made sure it was routed to our internal customer service channels immediately so we could connect you with the right person to help, but attempted to assist in the mean time. From there, our team, including Danette, followed up with you directly by phone and email, and we know it took a bit longer than it should have for that outreach to come through consistently on our end, for that, we apologize. Based on our conversations, the concern you raised with us was about the level of interest your listing was receiving, not in regards to changing your price. We want you to know that we're always happy to look into any specific issues with your account or listing directly, including changing the price, if there was anything else going on, we'd genuinely welcome the chance to hear about it and help resolve it. As part of addressing your concern, we issued a refund for your renewal charge. We also let you know that we weren't able to refund the initial listing fee, since that service had already been active and rendered by the time the refund was requested. We didn't hear back from you again until now. We'd still love the opportunity to talk directly and make sure we've answered all of your concerns.

I signed up for 3 months and sold my boat within 1 month! I made an initial customer service call because I was a little confused with site navigation, that call was handled professionally and promptly and I was walked through my questions. I made my second call to cancel after the sale and was again impressed with the customer service agent. Whatever you guys are doing you are doing it right. Thanks, Dan Menihane

Did not have one inquiry about my boat. I did sell through face book market place

Reply from Boat Trader2026-07-28

Hi Forrest, congratulations on selling your boat, though we're disappointed it was not on Boat Trader. We looked into your listing and found that you were missing some details that may have affected leads. Having complete listing details including high-quality photos, an accurate boat description, and competitive pricing plays a major role in boat listing visibility and how many qualified buyers see and engage with a listing. Incomplete details can significantly reduce reach and buyer interest. In the future, our team is always available to review your listing and offer suggestions to help improve visibility and attract more serious inquiries, so don't hesitate to reach out anytime.

Listing was difficult

Unfortunately, I had trouble listing my boat. The site would not let me post as many pictures as I paid to post. I called 4 times to try to resolve the issue. I finally just asked for my money back. I did finally sell the boat but it too much longer than it would have if I had been able to post more pictures.

Reply from Boat Trader2026-07-28

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear you experienced issues uploading the number of photos included with your listing. We understand how important photos are when selling a boat, and we regret the frustration this caused and the extra time it took to get your listing online. We're glad to hear you were ultimately able to sell your boat, and we appreciate the opportunity we had to assist you during the process. Your feedback has been shared with our team as we continue working to identify the issue referenced and improve the listing experience for our customers.

Very easy to set up the ad

Very easy to set up the ad. Lots of views and within a few weeks the boat was sold for a good price. The only caveat I would offer is that posting your boat for sale on BT attracts scammers who pretend to be interested in your boat but just want to see the "Hull Report." The web address provided will take your credit card info and disappear. This is not the fault of Boat Trader, it's just a fact of life in the internet age. The site itself was first rate and got the boat sold within a reasonable time span.

Reply from Boat Trader2026-07-27

Thank you for the kind words, and congratulations on selling your boat quickly and at a good price! The Hull Report scam is one of the most common ones circulating across boat selling platforms right now, and we're continuously building new filters and blockers to catch these contacts before they reach sellers, as well as sending reminders to help sellers spot and report suspicious activity if it does come through. If you ever encounter something like this, reporting it to [email protected] helps our team act on it fast. Glad the overall experience was a great one.

We're sorry you ran into this. We're continuously adding new filters to catch scam contacts before they reach sellers. If you can share any of those messages with us at [email protected], our team can investigate and act on them and it helps protect other sellers on the platform too.

Fees every 2 weeks

Be advised that the fee is charged every 2 weeks, and cancellation of the ad does not end the 2 monthly charges I bet they make a ton of money while doing nothing Not my idea of a good business to get involved with

Reply from Boat Trader2026-07-22

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're sorry to hear your experience didn't meet expectations. Boat Trader listings are set to automatically renew based on the listing term you selected (for example, every two weeks or every month). This is disclosed during the listing setup process, and sellers can turn off auto-renewal or cancel their listing at any time through their account. If a listing isn't performing as expected, our customer support team is also available to review it and provide recommendations on pricing, photos, and listing details to help optimize its visibility and performance. Please let us know if we can provide any additional assistance.

The package I chose had several positive features

The package I chose had one main selling feature. That being that my listing rotated to page/pages up front and didn't get lost in the crowd. The ability to upload videos along with pictures. Having videos is a lot more personal to prospective buyers.

Reply from Boat Trader2026-07-20

Thanks, Ron. We're thrilled to hear the package worked well for you, especially having your listing rotate to the front pages for better visibility. Videos really do add a more personal touch for prospective buyers, and we're glad that feature helped your listing stand out.

No Replies

Not sure what can be done differently. I did not get a single reply from posting with BT. 3 days after paying the premium rate, I found my boat was no longer on the front page. I received 20 replies the first day after posting on Facebook. Sold my boat in 5 days without a single reply from BT. You should look at your price structure. Maybe a rebate if there are no replies in a week.

I feel it was a waste of money

I feel it was a waste of money. I received more inquiries via facebook marketplace for a fraction of the cost. Market place is where my boat was sold.

Reply from Boat Trader2026-07-20

Hi Jared, we're sorry your Boat Trader experience wasn't what you hoped it would be. We looked into your account and found that your listing went live on July 8th, and we sent a reminder email on July 9th encouraging photos to be added, as listings without images tend to see significantly less buyer interest. Your listing was then removed just a few days later, on July 11th, before the completed listing had much time to gain traction. We understand sellers often post in multiple places at once, and timing can vary depending on where a boat is listed. We're always happy to help sellers get the most out of their listings, including guidance on photos, pricing, and other details that tend to improve visibility, so please don't hesitate to reach out anytime with questions.

Too expensive for poor results.

All the calls we received through boat trader were scam calls. We received more legit calls through marketplace than trader. Our boat actually sold through marketplace...for free. We also received a ton of unwanted emails from third party financiers and title transfer companies.
