Worst Insurance Company I've had
Worst Insurance Company I've had. I've been a member for six years and have never had a claim until recently. I was involved in a collision where my car was legally parked on a city street. I submitted my first and only claim in six years to California Casualty. I took my vehicle to the shop and paid my $1,000.00 deductible and California Casualty paid the rest.
They conducted the investigation and the other party's insurance took full liability for the collision.
California Casualty allegedly sent me a $1,000.00 check in the mail to reimburse me for my deductible. No one ever reached out to tell me the results of the investigation and that they were sending me a check in the mail.
Two months passed and I reached out to the Insurance to get an update. They advised me that the other party's insurance took full liability and that they had already mailed me a $1,000.00 check on May 26 to reimburse me for my deductible. They wrote verbatim "which I see you received." I can tell for a fact that I did not receive the check like they had said in the email.
California Casualty, then, sent me a screenshot of the payment screen on their end and stated that it shows the check had been "cleared which means you cashed the check." I can also tell for a fact and with 100% certainty that I did not cash the check like they had wrote in the email.
California Casualty was able to send me a copy of the cleared check, which showed that someone had fraudulently forged a signature of my name on the check and made the check out to them.
I can tell for a fact that the signature was not mine because that is not how I sign documents at all, and I did not consent to anyone forging my signature. I also do not know anyone by that name.
I told California Casualty all of this information and advised them that my check had been stolen, someone forged my signature, and fraudulently deposited my $1,000.00 check.
California Casualty stated that I would need to file a Police Report and that they could no longer assist me regarding my stolen check. They said they also could not reissue another check since the stolen check was mailed to the correct address and name. They also said that I would need to refer my questions to the Police as they did not have more information to provide. Meaning that I just lost $1,000.00 and they don't care to look into it further because they will get reimbursed from the other party's insurance anyways and it doesn’t affect them; the only one that lost the $1,000.00 is me.
All of this to say that California Casualty does not care about their customers and will not do anything to assist their customers who have been a victim of not only grand theft, but also mail theft, check fraud, and forgery, which are all felonious crimes in the State of California.
Like I said before, this was my first and only claim that I've submitted to California Casualty in six years, and the collision was not even my fault. I also have never missed a payment in the last six years since I use autopay. I know with 100% certainty that I've paid California Casualty more than $2,000.00 in the last six years, as my monthly payments are roughly $360 a month, and they are not willing to assist me in any way in resolving this matter so that I can at least get some or all of my money back.
After this incident, I do not recommend California Casualty at all and highly suggest that people look elsewhere for insurance. You would think that as an Insurance company marketed towards a select group of professions, they would be better than other companies and would be more willing to help their customers, but I guess I was wrong. They will be glad to take your money, but will refuse to help you when you’ve fallen victim to a crime. I will be looking elsewhere once my policy ends.

I’ve bundled with cal cas for decades…
I’ve bundled with cal cas for decades now. Car claims have never been a problem. But!
The renter’s insurance is fraught with loopholes. It considers e-bikes a motorized vehicle, even if you meet your city’s criteria for a bicycle. My e-bike can be used without any motor, it has seven speeds for bicycling.
Even with a motor, it will not exceed my city’s speed limit for e-bikes.
It was stolen. I called cal cas to report after filing police report. I’ve made no prior claims. The claims agent told me that motorized vehicles are not covered. WTF! It’s a bicycle first. Then pedal assist if I need it. That’s $2K gone when I thought I was paying for coverage for my possessions.REALLY disappointed
Agent Carlos was very patient and helpful through the reporting and follow-up process. I was able to make my report for my accident - which I was not at fault. Carlos effectively got the other drivers insurance to accept 100% responsibility. He was quick to arrange repair services.

Great customer service
Customer service reps always professional, friendly and helpful.
In the past we've had insurance from a number of companies with varying success. When we found California Casualty for auto and home insurance
decades ago it sounded too good to be true, but it IS true. During that time we've filed some claims, and in each instance the response has been quick. The staff is easy to work with, and they're quite accommodating.
Other companies have approached us over the years, and when we tell them about California Casualty's cost and performance, they all say they can't match it. I hope California Casualty continues to be as great as it's been for all these years.
Very responsive! I recently was rear-ended, and it took two conversations with the responding agent to get my car fixed, rental set up, and I did not have to communicate with the other party's insurance. California Casualty handled it all!
We were with this company for 18 years and happy. Never had any issues and only had to do one minor claim for a fender bender. We noticed a dramatic increase at the beginning of 2026 in our policy rates, so we called some competitors to see if we were still in line with the market. We found that we were not, and saved nearly half the cost by switching to somebody else. The cancellation process was easy. Fast forward four months and we get a letter in the mail that we’ve been sent to collections for $61. Never received any phone calls, emails, or notice by regular mail. We called the company to find out what the deal was and they told us that they had emailed a handful of times. We told them that they did not, and we wanted them to prove that by sending us the records showing they tried contacting us. They sent us some screenshots that appeared to be completely fabricated. In 30 years, we have never had any bills in collections. Only time will tell if this affects our ability to buy a home, which we were planning to do this year. Go with someone else. Also, this company was downgraded from an A rating, so that should tell you enough.

I have been with Cal Cas for over 33…
I have been with Cal Cas for over 33 years. I have never had an accident, claim etc. I have never been in the "rears" or late on my payments. They started
charging me for being in a fire zone and raising it every time I renewed. Then recently they raised my insurance $105.00 a month. Nothing changed for them to raise my insurance. I decided to go to another company. I called to cancel my insurance on the 6th of the month, because my payment for Cal Cas was due on the 10th of the month. They said I had to make another payment even though I cancelled my insurance before the next due date. Which didn't make any sense!!! I payed it so I could cancel my insurance and decided to follow up with getting my payment back later. Do you think they said "I'm so sorry you are cancelling your policy because you have been a loyal customer for over 33 years" NOPE nothing. Later I received another bill in the mail that said I had cancelled it on the 6th, (before the due date of the 10th.) But I still owed another month of insurance, after I had already paid for an extra month when I cancelled my policy. When I called the agent said I had to pay another month because my account was in the "REARS" I had explained to her my account was not in the "REARS" and has never been in the rears and I already paid twice this month. And usually, (always) you pay for your insurance one month ahead so you would have coverage for the upcoming month, not the month that had passed!!!! Finally I guess she finally caught on and checked and I did make all the payments, she apologized several times. And I got her to send me something that had a zero balance. But in my records they still owed me for the extra payment I'd given them after my insurance was cancelled. She did not say anything about me being a loyal customer for 33 years.....

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We sincerely regret to hear about the billing issues, the increase in your premium, and definitely for the lack of appreciation shown for being a loyal customer for over three decades.
We'll forward your comments to the management team to review and address the concerns raised about the cancellation process and communication.
It has been our privilege to serve you for the last 33 years and we genuinely thank your for your loyalty.
