Great value lived up to its name. We thoroughly enjoyed our Brazil experience. We were quite surprised to each have our very own room and a full 7 nights in the destination and the convenience of a centrally located hotel. We appreciated ALL the included guided activities and enjoyed the experiences. The Islands were stunning. WELL DONE GREAT VALUE!
My wife and I booked a trip to Portugal and Spain thru Great Value Vacations in March 2026. We were scheduled to depart from Washington Dulles on March 11 for three days in Porto three days in Lisbon and then two days in Madrid, Spain. On March 11, the day we were scheduled to leave, our bags were packed and ready to go. That’s when I saw an email from Lufthansa saying that the flight from Frankfurt to Porto Portugal, was canceled. They didn’t say why. About an hour later, I received another email from Lufthansa, this time telling me that the flight from Washington to Frankfurt was also canceled. They suggested I check with the booking agent (GVV) to rebook with any airline to try to rebook the flight to Porto. It was about that time, I realized that Lufthansa was on strike for two days and that getting a flight on that airline or any airline in Europe was pretty much impossible at that late notice. We got in contact with great value Vacations and explained the problem and they said they would try to help. However, the best they could do was to reschedule a flight to Porto three days after our scheduled date. the problem with that was that our itinerary had us leaving Porto the day before the reschedule got us to Porto. they made no attempt to refund our expenses for the hotels they booked in Porto, for the hotel they booked, or for the city tour they booked, or for the train they booked from Porto to Lisbon. Those cancellations could have been done before our originally scheduled arrival. How hard can it be to cancel a hotel room, or a city tour, or a train to Lisbon?). Ultimately, on our own, we rebooked a flight from Washington Dulles nonstop to Lisbon, which was the next stop on our scheduled trip. By that time we attempted to get our flight to Spain delayed so that we might add on three days in Madrid to make up for the three days lost in Porto. we were eventually able to extend our travel by contacting United Airlines to get the flight to Spain changed and to get our eventual departure from Madrid back to Washington Dulles extended by three days.. also by that time we had given up on great value vacations because the idea that great value vacations was going to help us. The position taken by GVV was that the problem was not caused by them so it was not theirs to fix. when we finally got to Madrid we were able, on our own, to extend the trip by three days by begging United to trade our ticket for a later one and booking another hotel for 3 additional nights in Madrid. No thanks to GVV. We arrived home on March 23, 2026
The experience was pleasant, but the fact that the hotel’s taxes were charged at the end of the stay and weren’t included in the initial booking fee was a downside.
Great for booking air, trains and lodging accommodations. Do NOT book excursions w/ them if you are looking for a relaxed "at your pace" vacation. They leverage third parties, do not communicate the correct details nor do they provide access to the third party directly. Causes lots of lost time while on vacation and huge markups. Before departure I was only able to speak to a real person twice and only because I called myself. No one calls you or explains anything. They also presume to know what you want and take liberties to book things just to use up your payment if others get canceled. They are not transparent of the breakdown in your package.
Wife and I just came back from five nights near Milan, Italy and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Staying along Lake Maggiore and making it so simple to get into Milan to see some of the sites made this the best trip in a long time. Definitely will use this agency for more trips in the future. Easy to book and thorough explanation of everything that we expected took away. Any worries we had.

I have now booked two trips for my spouse and myself through GVV with very good results. You are only booking flights/trains and hotels through them. You arrange any activities on your own through companies like aviator. The flights are economy and the hotels are typically 3 star hotels

Great communication throughout the planning process. We were prepared with all documents and vouchers required for our travel and our excursions and activities. Our drivers were all wonderful, informative, and fun, especially Andrew for our Black Cab tour in London, and Dale on the Magical Mystery Tour in Liverpool. The staff at both hotels were friendly and helpful. We especially enjoyed the Hard Days Night hotel. We would recommend this vacation to any Beatles fan.
GVV planned the route for our trip and it was perfect! The seven night ring road itinerary provided plenty of times to see all the beautiful sights and still reach our nightly destination with ease. We were please with the cleanliness and accommodations provided at hotel. We did not request an upgrade for our rental car but the car provided was still well suited for our travel! This was our second trip using Great Value Vacations and we look forward to using their services in the future!
The hotels within the package with the exception of Rome (B&B Hotel) were unbelievable. The hotel in London was extremely small without AC, we were given a fan for 90 degree weather. The hotel in Paris (IBIS) was horrible to say the least. The room had a stench of raw sewer, our luggage could NOT fit inside the room, and the bathroom was extremely small. After complaining to the hotel staff, we were given a deodorizer spray to mask the smell. The transfer baggage fees were expensive. From Paris to Rome the baggage fee was $80 per checked bag ($160 Total) and Rome to Amsterdam the fee was $75 per checked bag ($150 Total). These fees were unexpected. I would NOT recommend great value vacation as a value of any sort.

The trip covered so much of Alaska's interior via bus, rail, two cruises to glaciers, river boat and hiking. So much history here that most Americans don't know about. The hotel stays and food exceeded our expectations. Our tour guide was born and raised in Alaska. His knowledge, experience and stories provided a vivid picture of life in the state. If you want luxury, take a cruise. But if you want to see Alaska you must take a ground tour.
Everything was as stated in the description, however I wish we had more time, especially with the train transfers to the next city. Staff at GVV were helpful except one. Price was great. The 2 city tours had great guides. 1. Venice was great, but rushed and lots of walking. 2. Florence was even better. Unfortunately, our train was pushed back due to potential strike and we lost money for one of our pre booked tours. Definitely recommend doing a pasta making class, not as expensive, a lot of fun and met several new friends. Also you don’t have to pay for another dinner because we ate the pasta. 4. Rome, beautiful but way too much to see with only a day and a half. 5. Overall great vacation, but make sure you LOVE to walk and climb stairs because you will do a LOT of it. Get to know the train system, buses and metro to be prepared to get around. (None of the cities had ramps/elevators for public use. Definitely not disability friendly). 6. Hotels were ok but not always in best areas. They were clean and had friendly and helpful staff. All in all we only slept there, so ok. 7. AMERICA AIRLINES was a disaster!!!!. Even though I have their credit card, the rules changed so THAT LUGGAGE is NO LONGER INCLUDED FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL. Thus costs increased to over $140 each way for my and my daughter’s suitcase. The flight was full, no extra seats. Also the seats were so tight making it very difficult to get out. My knees kept bumping the seats in front and I am only 5’ 4”, unfortunately my daughter is six feet and, we were in the 2 middle seats for a 10 hour flight. We had way more space on the connecting flight which was only one hour. Go figure. After travelling to Europe several times, I will never go on American Airlines again. The thing that is weird is food/snacks because you were served their “dinner” one hour after leaving the airport and nothing until one hour before landing when the attendants were scrambling to pick everything up. 6. Wish we had more time so we could see everything and not have to walk from 8 am to 8 pm. You don’t really have 2 days in each city to sightsee(but 1 1/2 d/t train transfers). But a great vacation to get a brief look at these wonderful cities, just wished we had more time.

This is our first time to travel using GVV. I tried other agencies but Great Value is just topnotch! The website is easy to navigate and booking was a breeze. Have many options to choose re: dates of travel, hotel amenities, bus transfers and local tours. Everything is taken of. As another point out, just show at the airport. Flight was delayed and then cancelled with little support from the agency. Had to drive 3 hours to our 2nd destination after jet lag and no rest as they don't try to accommodate for this. They did agree to a full refund, but we were already stuck in DC and they weren't willing to pay for us to get back home. Flight again delayed upon return with changes in flights causing unnecessary connections and a long day of waiting in airports. The original itinerary of us getting back at 3pm was now extended to 9 pm with a 4 HR layover in between. Agency not helpful to get us an earlier flight or with a different airline. They went radio silent upon return as I'm sure they were tired of communicating with me. No accountability from either the agency or airline. You are really at their mercy which is absent when it comes to flight issues and they push the responsibility for this on the airline. Also, too much driving to actually enjoy the "Irish Countryside." In hindsight, having more flexibility by booking on our own may have improved our chances of having our flights rebooked appropriately or being able to go with another airline. I felt like the driving excessive and most of the hotels were spas that weren't in any convenient locations to enjoy the Irish community. It seemed like a money grab at most of these places and not a true reflection of the Irish culture. Never again.

When a connection is missed due to an airline delay, it is the airline's responsibility to accommodate travelers on the next available flight. If a traveler arrives a day later than originally scheduled, the remainder of the itinerary continues as booked rather than shifting forward. This means that upon arrival, you would proceed to the hotel reserved for your scheduled arrival date. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts about your experience in Ireland. Everything was great! Resort was wonderful. The value of the trip was amazing. We were also able to change an 11:00 pm flight back to an 8:00 pm flight, which was much better for us. The representative who helped us was very professional.

The chosen hotel was above my expectations, location, room size and all around amenities offered. We were VERY pleased with the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort. The booking process through GV was simple and easy. Vouchers came in a timely manner with easy to follow directions. I would definitely recommend GV vacations to others.

We found the attention to detail lacking in the area of transportation. The itinerary was unclear (even to your agent when we called in) as to what transportation was included. If my husband had not brought it to the attention of your agent, it would not have been scheduled as agreed. Our transportation to the Porto airport was scheduled but we were not given a time for pick up. We had to call the night before to ask them what time they were coming. We also had to work to find out what times our trains were scheduled. As far as accomodations, we found the hotels to be very nice and comfortable. We had a wonderful trip!
