Super, simply super. I`ve got an very old but also very good Minolta Scanner (ca. 2010) for Diapositivs and I thought I won`t be able to use it ever again. But than I 've got Vuescan and now I not only can use my old scanner again, but this software is miles better than the original software! Strongly recommand it! I use it since 2022 approx.
I use VueScan almost entirely for matters relating to a half-century-span survey of rookeries in Shropshire; carried out by many volunteers organised by me. I have made a personal donation to VueScan who I thank for an excellent piece of software which I could not work without. JJT August 20206
VueScan is the absolute best scanning software available. I bought this program 16 years ago and it has been updated constantly. I was able to use a scanner that Microsoft & Epson no longer supported. Featured packed and high performance. Best piece of software I have purchased to date.
Years ago, Windows updates were never supported by scanner manufacturers. I don't know if that is still the situation, but I don't care. Vuescan is perfect. Why use a scanner's proprietary software?

VueScan solved multiple problems for me. Most scanners have their own drivers, but most are junk. VueScan eliminates that problem and gives you just about any control you want of scans (or none at all if you just want an easy-peasy scan). The support is amazing too. This is a great piece of software.
My old Epson Perfection 1640SU is a great scanner for scanning the thousands of old negatives, prints and colour slides I inherited. Saving and enhancing these images, many from the early 1900s, has become my retirement project, but the scanner software, Adobe photoshop LE, is not compatible with modern hardware. Searching the internet gave me the link to VueScan, and it was an excellent investment. It works perfectly (once I downloaded the scanner drive), its easy to use, and rapid in operation. Brilliant!
This is an old-school piece of software driven by a small old-school company. Which means: the software has obtained continuous updates and upgrades for decades and I was able to obtain support in few cases, as necessary. Even in cases when the problem was located between my computer keyboard and my seat back. Add generous license terms to your decision basket. Just consider some learning curve, depending on the task you want to accomplish. Yet do not worry much about it, basic A4 scan does not require learning. Scanning a negative film stripe in 100% consistent manner does. While the GUI looks outdated, there is modern software under the hood, I particularly enjoy AI driven recognition of several loosely, messy placed small pictures inherited from grandparents and scanning all of them individually by a single click.
I've used VueScan for probably 10 years; it's fantastic. Along with many other daily uses, I scan lots of maps and old documents for genealogy projects. It's easy to use and very flexible with inputs and outputs - there are many output formats to choose from.
I've been using VueScan for over two years now without a hitch, perfect with all scanners. Strongly recommend. J-P

I bought VueScan in 2011 for an old Canon Film-scanner Canoscan FS4000US for which Canon no longer provided a driver. VueScan worked welI with this scanner but I didn't use it a lot because I wasn't satisfied with the scanner. I also work with a Canon 9000F scanner. Canon didn't bother to supply driver software for Windows 11 (even while the scanner was not that old). So I switched to VueScan and wished I had done that before. Strong points of VueScan: - Excellent scans; - Bountiful very useful features; - Frequent updates which really make improvements; - Updates are free; - Clear and comprehensive Help on the website; - Works also with older scanners. Less strong points of VueScan: - Filter-settings and auto-crop for the preview scan are sometimes wrong; - The many features take some time to learn; - I had a nasty experience wit Ed Hamrick after reporting an issue about wrong version numbering.
VueScan enabled me to use an old slide scanner, a PowerSlide 3650, when no other software worked. I really appreciate the quick responses I have had to my questions about the software from the developer himself. Worth every penny spent!
It makes my old film scanner work! Considering the scanner cost $5K. This is a great relief.
I have been using ViewScan for years. It is great software, frequently updated and, in my opinion, far to superior to the scanner software that came packaged with my HP scanner.
I use VueScan with my old and trusting HP ScanJet 6300c from 1999 which is not supported in Windowa 10 anymore. I can't think of any software features that I would miss while scanning pictures and texts everyday. And the customers support is simply great!
