GREAT mountaineering course
what an amazing experience. really loved this intro to mountaineering course, I feel very comfortable now on a glacier along with different knots to use while mountaineering. the final day we got to submit one of the mountains around the hut which was so amazing and such a cool way to end the course!

TMB Highlights
I had an excellent time during my TMB highlights trip! Westy was a great guide, and I enjoyed the collab between Mapo Tapo and Sara Randall! All of the lodges were great, and I felt challenged by the route but also very capable of completing all the mountain passes. The scenery was gorgeous, food was great, and the people were wonderful :) I’d absolutely recommend this experience.

Tour Du Mont Blanc
We had an incredible trip on the Tour Du Mont Blanc with Mapo Tapo! Our guides were INCREDIBLE! Sabrina and Mathieu were extremely knowledgeable and capable, and we felt supported and encouraged throughout the entire trip. The itinerary was curated perfectly to showcase the best parts of the trail and all of our accommodations were wonderful. We could not recommend Mapo Tapo and this trip enough!

The experience was great
The experience was great, the group was fun, and Mark was amazing. The only thing that was missing is handling and food preferences...I have some eating restrictions and it was challenging a bit.

If You Love Ski Touring, Book Hokkaido Trip with Mapo Tapo.
I booked this trip because I wanted waist-deep powder in Hokkaido. I came home in love with Japan. The skiing was incredible, of course, but what made this trip unforgettable was everything around it: the respect for nature, the volcanic summits, the endless onsens after long days, the amazing food, the traditions, the tiny details of Japanese culture… even the freezing Siberian wind somehow became part of the magic. What really impressed me about Mapo Tapo is that it’s obvious they are deeply specialized in adventure sports expeditions, not just tourism. It’s not my first trip with them and they always impress me. In ski touring, the devil is in the details, and they think about every single one of them. A simple example: although we were only 8 people, they rented a 10-person van so all our skis, boots and equipment fit comfortably. It sounds like a small thing until you see so many other groups desperately trying to cram everything into tiny Japanese cars every morning. Those details make the whole experience smoother and let you focus on the adventure. They also found what I think is the perfect balance: I always felt completely safe and incredibly well looked after, while at the same time feeling like we were on a real expedition, not a guided tour. Every evening we’d gather around the map, review the weather, avalanche conditions and snow forecast together. Our guide would propose the best objective for the next day, but it genuinely felt like our expedition. We discussed, decided together and shared the responsibility and excitement as a team. And then there’s the guide, Lorenzo. Honestly, he made the trip. His knowledge of ski touring in Japan is extraordinary, but what impressed me even more was his ability to lead people. He effortlessly adapted to different fitness levels and personalities, kept everyone motivated, created an amazing group atmosphere and somehow always knew when to encourage us to push a little further and when to slow things down. I ended the week feeling like I pushed my limits, always feeling safe and even more importantly always having fun!!! I came to Japan chasing powder. I left already planning my next trip back. Thank you Mapo Tapo, Lorenzo and the whole group for one of the best adventures I’ve ever had. I’ll be back. ❤️🇯🇵🏔️

Hike Mount Olympus (19.06 - 21.06)
I participated in the “Hike Mount Olympus” tour (June 19–21, 2026) and unfortunately, the experience did not meet the expectations set in the official description. The trek was advertised as suitable for all with a light fitness requirement and no prior experience needed. In reality, the pace and structure were significantly more demanding, making it unsuitable for those expecting a moderate and inclusive hike. The overall pacing felt rushed throughout, especially during the summit ascent, with very limited time to rest or enjoy the surroundings. The summit experience itself was brief and felt more like a timed checkpoint than a highlight of the trip. Additionally, the guiding aspect was minimal. There was little communication or educational input regarding Mount Olympus, its history, or cultural significance, which was a key part of what was advertised. Overall, the trip lacked the balance of accessibility, guidance, and experience promised. Improvements in accurate difficulty representation, pacing, and guide engagement would significantly enhance the quality of this tour for future participants.

First and foremost, we are sorry that your experience of the Mount Olympus trek did not meet your expectations. We understand how much this trip meant to you, and we genuinely regret that several aspects of the experience fell short. We work with hundreds of guides, accommodation partners, and local operators across the world, with over a thousand travelers on our guides' trips every year. The vast majority of these experiences go smoothly and leave travelers with incredible memories. That said, we know that with the complexity of operating in so many destinations, occasional miscommunications can happen. And when they do, we always do our best to find a solution and learn from it. We would like to provide some context that we hope helps clarify a few of the points raised. Regarding the difficulty level: the Mount Olympus trek sits within our Mountaineering category, which by definition involves a higher level of physical demand than our standard trekking trips. The trip page includes a very detailed day-by-day breakdown: Day 1 involves a 1,000m vertical ascent over 6.5km (approximately 3–3.5 hours); Day 2 involves a further 1,000m ascent over 15km lasting 7–8 hours, with a steep scramble to Mytikas requiring helmets, harnesses, and a short-roping technique. We understand that participants may interpret 'Open to All' in various ways, and we are constantly working to ensure our fitness requirements are as clear as possible. Regarding the guiding approach: we have shared the group’s feedback directly with our local partner and the guides involved. The guides’ decisions throughout the trek were made with safety as the absolute priority, both on the ascent and the long technical descent. That said, we hear that the communication style and overall tone left participants feeling discouraged rather than supported, and this is something we are committed to addressing andwe are already working on it ( we shared alread all the details via email). At Mapo Tapo, we are deeply committed to ensuring that every trek our guides organize is safe, enjoyable, and meets the high standards our community expects. We take your report very seriously and have immediately opened an internal investigation into the points you raised, specifically regarding the logistics, the equipment provided, and the guiding approach during the trek. This involves collecting reports from our local transport partners and the mountain guides who accompanied the group to get a complete picture of what happened on the ground.
