What people say

I love the app

I love the app. I used it last year for my taxes very easily. This year had made so many buy/sells/moves across 5 years and many wallets, there was no way I would have been able to make sense of it without SUMM. I ran into some difficulties with wallets and address, and both the SUMM Bot and SUMM people helped me sort it out. I really appreciated the fast responses.

Be careful. You get put on subscription without asking

This is one of those companies that automatically put you on an annual subscriptions without you asking for it. Thats one thing, but to then not send a reminder to let you know theyre about to charged you $245 and give you the optiion to "cancel" shows what crooks they are. Of course, Ive disputed the transaction.

Hi Alan, Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry this experience felt frustrating. For clarity, our annual plans are only activated when a customer selects one and completes checkout. Our prices are listed as per year and our annual subscription billing terms are shown at multiple points during the purchase flow (including on the plans page, checkout summary, and before confirming payment), so customers can make an informed decision before subscribing. That said, we understand situations like this can still feel unexpected. Once you contacted us, we cancelled your subscription immediately and issued a full refund. If anyone ever wishes to cancel, they can do so at any time through their account or by contacting our support team, and we’ll assist promptly. We appreciate you raising this and will continue working to keep our billing experience clear and straightforward for all customers. Kind regards, Summ Support

The best API integration brought me here, Oli is keeping me here

What made my experience great was Oliver AKA Oli AKA the legend in customer service. He spent hours with me over the last couple months after the migration to FIFO 1099-DA America stuff. Seriously, I really only have super high praise for Oli. In the last year for sure, nobody has even come as close to his persistence in assistance and making sure that I have felt confident and had my questions answered thoroughly. I think candidly Oli is the only reason I'm still with Summ. I've never found better help in the Crypto tax software space. Dudes awesome. Dude needs a raise he handles way more workload than 90% of your customer service department. I'm going on 3+ years using this service.

I really appreciate the quick response…

I really appreciate the quick support that they give. Within minutes of asking a question you will get a response. Gilbert was the Tech that jumped in to help me today. His answers were accurate and easily understood. He was friendly and courteous, which goes a long way when you are struggling with something as fun as taxes! Thanks, Gilbert!

They have no idea what they are doing

They have no idea what they are doing. I'm trying to get a CSV file uploaded. I did it exactly as they said and it won't work. I worked with vincent and he couldn't figure it out so he just dropped me. Shame on them. I spent hours trying to figure it out to get dropped. You would have to pay me to use their service.

This app is half-baked being sold at…

This app is half-baked being sold at full price. Connecting to different wallets is a pain, but once I got past that, the assumption was SUMM would do the rest. I was incorrect; I was first tasked with categorizing a boatload of transactions, and which categories to use is confusing. Then it flagged sold crypto as having a missing purchase history. After hours of trying, I had no idea how to correct this, so I watched one of their videos, which starts out by assuming you're familiar with accounting practices. My first thought was if this were true, I wouldn't be using SUMM. Part of the problem is you need to be familiar with how SUMM handles syncing transactions behind the scenes and how it uses categories, groupings, etc., in order to even attempt correcting these. The other issue is it still does not sync certain well-known wallets correctly, so you're always wondering if that could be the problem. The bottom line is they had a year to map data from at least the most popular wallets. They also could have implemented automation using AI to automatically reconcile these other issues, and instead they apparently spent a lot of time changing their name from "Crypto Tax Calculator" to "SUMM." This app is marketed to investors with no accounting experience—so I would expect that other than asking a few easy questions, SUMM should take care of the rest. Also, it is impossible to get real-time help during tax season. So I'm basically stuck from completing my taxes from what I thought would be the easiest part. Not a good feeling!

Hi Brian, Thank you for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback, we're really sorry to hear about your experience, and we can hear how frustrating this has been, especially during tax season when the pressure is on. You raise some valid points, particularly around onboarding for users without an accounting background, and we take that seriously. This is exactly the kind of feedback that helps us improve. We'd love the opportunity to help you get unstuck. Please email us at [email protected] and we'll make sure the right person picks this up straight away so you can get your taxes across the line. Kind regards, Summ Support

Garbage service

There are broken transfers, missing purchase history, and miscategorized components all over the place. It would be less of an issue if you could actually get someone on the phone to walk you through all of your questions, but they have an AI bot for basic not good answers, and then when tech support comes on they may take a day to get back to you. When they do, they want a screen recording under the assumption that you know how to articulate what you need done? That is why you want help because it isn't well laid out. Don't waste the money

Broken Coinbase Imports, Mis‑Categorized Data, and an Unrealistic Refund Policy

Summ looks promising on the surface, but the platform simply does not work reliably with Coinbase or Coinbase Advanced Trade. The import process loses critical data, drops transactions, and mis‑categorizes trades in ways that create fake gains and missing cost basis. Once this happens, you’re forced into hours of manual reconstruction for transactions that should have been recognized automatically. Support repeatedly promises fixes, but the issues never actually get resolved. You keep trying the suggested steps, re‑syncing, re‑uploading, and waiting for updates — but the underlying problems remain unchanged. To make matters worse, Summ’s 7‑day refund window is completely inadequate. You don’t discover the full extent of the import and categorization failures until you’ve spent significant time troubleshooting. By the time it becomes clear the service won’t work for your data, the refund period has already expired. Support response times are also slow, often taking 3–4 days between replies. That delay contributes directly to users missing the refund window while waiting for help that ultimately doesn’t fix the problem. For a tax product, accuracy and reliability are non‑negotiable. Until Summ fixes Coinbase importing, improves categorization, and offers a realistic refund policy, it’s not a dependable solution for anyone who trades on Coinbase. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are genuinely sorry to hear that it felt frustrating and disappointing. We understand how important accuracy and reliability are when it comes to tax reporting, and we never want our customers to feel uncertain about their results. We also recognize that waiting on support responses can add to that frustration, particularly during a time-sensitive period. That is not the experience we aim to provide. Our team is already in contact with you via our in-app chat, and we are more than happy to continue assisting you there. We are committed to reviewing everything carefully and working toward a clear resolution with you directly. We truly appreciate the feedback and take concerns like this seriously. Great software, great staff

I've used this software for several years now after my accountant recommended. With the change over to the new system and rebrand to Summ several inconsistencies in my data were identified that had me overwhelmed and confused, but when I reached out via the chat in the software and started getting assistance from a human it resolved quickly, very impressed with their staff. (thank you to Glenn who helped me)

I've used two other crypto tax services…

I've used two other crypto tax services so far and just started using Summ this year. I've found its interface and features to be a lot more elegant, responsive and thought-out than the other ones I've used. Gilbert has been great on the customer support side as well. My experience with the other services I've used has usually involved a lot of wishing they had tools/views/reports/etc that they don't have, and getting noncommittal responses or from support about adding the functionality I want or about using some hacky workaround instead, and then ends with me ultimately having to sift through and fix up a lot of txs manually. Whereas with Summ most of what I've wanted to do/use/etc is just there out of the box because they thought of that already, and the most I need support to do is point me to where the tool already is. Their tooling feels like it's downstream of them actually understanding the struggle of doing crypto taxes, which is nice.

Very satisfied with Summ's support

I am very satisfied with Summ's support. I'm far from being a crypto expert! Jena helped me enter the transactions I was having trouble with, and she did so with patience, efficiency, and a responsiveness I've never experienced with other companies. She guided me step by step through the process with very clear and well-documented explanations, and I thank her sincerely. Thanks to her as well, my subscription issue was resolved completely satisfactorily in just two days.Thank you, Jena!
