Fraudulent & Sloppy Billing, Dangerous Handling of PII
I have had multiple issues with this organization over-billing me, billing random amounts at random times (how does that happen!!) and suddenly not processing things through insurance. When I go to correct my insurance, I am told it is solved, and then I am charged directly again. Every time it takes weeks or months to get a refund.
On top of that, they are so sloppy with PII- giving other patients to me (I did not ask for it) over the phone "accidentally", not asking for verification.
I think the only way they get away with it is that people are genuinely attached to their therapists, so they can be an incredibly shady business.
I am sure they have been sued and investigated before.

Hi Evan, we're sorry you've been dealing with this. Repeated billing issues are exhausting, and concerns about how personal information was shared need to be looked into closely by the right team. For privacy reasons, please reach out to us directly at [email protected] with your name, phone number, and a brief description of the issue. We'll look into your account and figure things out from there.
You are charged an initial eval fee every time you see someone new. Your info is not shared across Thriveworks providers. Be ready for this whenever your therapist leaves or has a sub. Psychiatrists were not equally trained on billing and often charge differently or more than others. I was often charged extra for psychotherapy when all a session consisted off was casual chat and them talking about their own monthly updates over my own. Your provider can not provide your documentation and everything must be requested through the company instead. If you question billing, support will ignore you rather than explain their own claims to your insurance. Billing is a complete scam.

Awful Experience
Awful. Therapist couldn't get my name right, kept asking the same questions over and over again. Would not respond to emails. Worst of all, they send an appointment reminder 24 hours before a session but have a 48 hour cancellation clause, so if you do cancel when you get the reminder, it's too late, they bill you 100%.
Reply from Thriveworks2026-05-26
Hi Chris, feeling like your provider wasn't fully present is frustrating on multiple levels, especially when paired with concerns regarding our cancellation policy. Misled About Coverage. Thriveworks Prioritizes Profit Over Patients
Thriveworks is one of the most unethical mental health companies I’ve dealt with. They care far more about protecting revenue than doing right by their patients.
My EAP clearly stated I had 3 free sessions, but their therapist repeatedly told me I had 6 free sessions and even confirmed it with their Regional Director. Based on that information, I continued treatment and attended a 4th session, only to later get charged because the information THEY provided was wrong.
When I disputed the charge, the therapist admitted she gave me incorrect information. Despite acknowledging their own mistake, Thriveworks still refused to refund the charge. That tells you everything you need to know about this company’s priorities.
As for the actual care, I tried two different therapists and the experience was disappointing. One seemed more focused on scheduling additional appointments and pushing prescriptions than providing meaningful support. The whole experience felt transactional instead of patient-centered.
Mental health treatment requires trust, transparency, and accountability. Thriveworks failed on all three. There are far better providers out there that actually care about patients instead of squeezing every dollar they can from them.

DANGEROUS AND UNETHICAL
This is just unethical. Worked with three clinicians over several years simply out of need, and insurance and money. Everyone I have worked with has been so just like not smart at all. Feels like they are throwing darts at a board blindly, but the consequences are bordering fatal at several real times along this journey. They never seem to know who I am probably because they talk to sooo many people a day. This just isn't a way to treat people with severe conditions dealing out severe drugs.

What a nightmare when it comes to…
What a nightmare when it comes to coverage and billing. If I didn't find great mental health professionals through this service, I would have left along time ago. Their customer service tries really hard but are not effective. Mis-billing, crediting account instead of my card, not updating my insurance after I notified them at least three times, are just a few of the issues Ive had to deal with. I swear they are causing me more headaches than I had before I started therapy. Do not use this service or do so at the risk of your mental well-being.

Stay away from Thriveworks, Lady-Dreama is awesome
Lady-Dreama is awesome. Thriveworks are only interested in Money. Cancellation policy for busy working people does not work. It's inflexible and causes more stress. I would recommend Lady-Dreama, I would recommend to stay away from Thriveworks. Use if you want your stress level to increase.

Hi David, we're glad your provider has made a real difference. We also hear your frustration with our cancellation policy. We know it doesn't work for everyone, and your feedback is genuinely useful. If you'd ever like to share more, we're reachable at [email protected].
Well I've been seeing Jennifer Marvin for a while since she joined this group and a while when she was at another agency. We don't always agree on the state of current events and really try not to go there but sometimes it's part of my troubling issues. We still have a few things in common so we can move on to other things.

Absolute horror
Absolute horror. Do not under any circumstance get involved with this
provider. They are dishonest and disingenuous.
They charged me a fee for service that was paid by my provider. Still waiting for a refund after 5 weeks. Their reason? I didn’t reconfirm my physical address which was confirmed at the time of the refund request. Policy to “reconfirm” street address was sent in an email. If one misses that, you can wait another month for repayment. I requested they expedite, they refused. They also have very high cancelled appntmnt fees. Oppressive policies coming from a company supposedly focused on improving mental health. Run, do not walk away from these guys.

Their rescheduling
Their rescheduling, no-show or cancellation fees are the worst. They charge $135 if you don't tell them within 48hrs and they count every hour. I tried rescheduling with my physiatrist on the 27th, my appointment was on the 29th and they still billed me!!!! I asked them to please waive the fee since I had an emergency echocardiogram last minute pre- surgery testing to do and they declined. I'm furious!!!!! I can't even afford this....

Met with 2 clinicians for ADHD…
Met with 2 clinicians for ADHD treatment. Both diagnosed me with depression, despite nominal PHQ and GAD screening scores. They belittled me, and were highly unprofessional. I wouldn’t refer my worst enemy to them. Total scam, money hungry, sub par treatment.

If I could put zero stars for Thriveworks, I would.
They tell you that they accept your insurance, then charge you $200. I spoke to an agent who said that they wouldn’t charge me.
They are trying to card my cc on file.
Ridiculous when you are in need of help, and they treat you like this. Highly unprofessional and not recommended. They lie.

I am filing a formal complaint against my therapist, Jennifer Marvin, for repeated inappropriate, unprofessional, and unethical conduct during multiple therapy sessions.
Over the course of several sessions, Jennifer Marvin engaged in behavior that was not only irrelevant to my care but also deeply inappropriate. She made repeated sexualized comments about her own body, including references to her breasts and genitals, and shared explicit details about her personal sex life. For example, she stated that her wife would not engage in sexual activity with her because of her breasts. These disclosures were unsolicited, unrelated to my treatment, and caused me significant discomfort and distress.
Additionally, Jennifer Marvin made a statement offering to physically harm my boyfriend. I found this extremely alarming and wholly inappropriate for a licensed mental health professional.
She also introduced her personal political views into our sessions, which further contributed to an unprofessional and unsafe therapeutic environment.
This pattern of behavior negatively impacted my mental health and ultimately made me feel unsafe and unable to continue care.
There were also serious issues related to administrative and professional responsibilities. At the outset of treatment, I clearly stated that I needed assistance completing short-term disability paperwork. Jennifer Marvin assured me she would handle this. However, she submitted the paperwork incorrectly, then refused to resend or correct it, and withheld my paperwork for several weeks. My case manager ultimately had to intervene.
Furthermore, I was scheduled for weekly sessions every Friday for an extended period and was charged $135 per session in addition to my insurance, which raises additional concerns about billing practices.
During a recent call, I was also informed that documentation may have been falsified, which is extremely concerning and warrants immediate investigation.
Due to the cumulative impact of these experiences, I am requesting:
A full investigation into Jennifer Marvin’s conduct
A review of all billing and documentation practices
A full refund for services rendered
I believe this conduct represents a serious violation of professional and ethical standards for mental health providers.

My experience was absolutely horrible…
My experience was absolutely horrible with a psychiatrist that was supposed to be able to prescribe me fast acting anxiety medication. I had never been so depressed and overcome with anxiety as I was when I talked to this lady. She rated me a 9.7 for depression and anxiety. She then in turn said she could not prescribe me anything fast acting. She ended up prescribing me an antidepressant that was to work in three weeks. I was pissed as I was charged $300 and my PCP could have called this in at no cost. I did not complain about this until they scheduled another appointment without my consent. They tried charging me $300 again and I did not know about this appointment then decided to charge me $135 for a missing appointment, that I never made or agreed to. This place is a huge scam! This so called psychiatrist knew how bad of shape I was in during our maybe 20 minute video call and did nothing to help me. Avoid this place like the plague. Bunch of damn scammers. I’m pretty sure the psychiatrist I paid for was not even licensed in this field. She was most likely a PCP charging psychiatrist rates.
