I am enjoying Upwork since 3 years. Clients are difficult to find but once trust built and you deliver successfully then it becomes smooth.
Updated gigs, reviewed fee, and competent freelance opportunities. Connects however have increased for highly demanded bidding.
Obviously, some people find a way to cheat the system, as there is no valid way to verify job poster really wants to hire someone or not. You can easily create a job posting and attract people with high bids, open their proposals, and then do nothing. In this way, their connects will be consumed. I can see few people do this every week to burn rivals connects and this is something Upwork also enjoys cause it will bring them more money.
I've had both successes and disappointments on the Upwork platform. My success is finding jobs that stick for the long run, including repeating contracts with clients who trust me and admired my work. My disappointments are the number of scam jobs on here and easy it is for them to add a job, send out to potential clients and go as far as sending a contract. Luckily, I stick to the Upwork rules of safe communication with a client and have been able to report the jobs that are scams. Overall, my experience has been a positive one and I have recommended Upwork to many of my friends and colleagues who are looking to earn some extra cash or are looking to gain experience for work.
Upwork is one of the best freelance platforms. If you have a specific skill, it's definitely worth trying. Be strategic with your Connects—only apply to jobs that are a good match for your expertise, and avoid wasting them on unsuitable listings. One of the biggest advantages of Upwork is the availability of long-term opportunities. If you're looking for a more stable income or a semi-full-time freelance position, it can be a great platform to find ongoing clients.
Upwork has been a game-changer for me. As a freelancer with 8+ years in the industry, I’ve used many platforms, Upwork stands out for all the right reasons. The platform is professional, secure, and incredibly efficient. From finding high-quality clients to managing projects, milestones, and payments, everything is streamlined in one place. The communication tools, time tracking, and payment protection give peace of mind that’s hard to find elsewhere. What really sets Upwork apart is the respect it shows freelancers. The resources, learning opportunities, and constant platform improvements prove they truly care about our success. Because of Upwork, I’ve built long-term client relationships and a business I’m proud of. Thank you, Upwork team, for building a platform that empowers people like me to do what we love and earn with confidence.
It has been Great, but deducting 10% of our salary is a lot and I get why the deduction but it impacts us as employees
It’s been easy to use. Not long after completing my profile completely invitations have been sent out more frequently.
Upwork provides stable access to international clients and reliable payment protection. However, the high fees and recent platform updates can be frustrating at times. Overall, it is still one of the best platforms for professionals.
Upwork is an excellent platform for freelancers to build professional experience and grow their careers. The clients are generally professional, communication is smooth, and the support system is reliable, making it a great environment for freelancers to succeed.
I landed my first job on Upwork and I had a great experience. Upwork maintains a client and a talent relationship very well and confidential. Upwork makes sure my payment is secured. I’m really looking forward for more gigs.
Wonderful platform 👏
As a freelancer, I'm always concerned about online security. We see how people's security is compromised on various platforms every day. If Upwork has shown me anything, it's that the security of freelancers is one of their top priorities. This has allowed me to do my work efficiently and without worry. In over eight years, I haven't had a single issue with them. I truly congratulate them.
Lasting Resource for Building Long-Term Teams I've spent well over $100,000 on Upwork throughout the years, and it has played an important role in helping us grow OCONCO Marketing. One thing I've learned is that success on Upwork requires a strategy. Rather than expecting to find the perfect freelancer immediately, we typically hire 8–10 candidates for small paid test projects. Those projects aren't about finding the cheapest person—they're about discovering the right long-term fit based on communication, reliability, problem-solving, and technical ability. Once we find the right person, our goal is to build a lasting relationship. We believe that if someone is helping grow our business, they deserve consistent work, fair compensation, respect, and the opportunity to grow alongside us. Several professionals we first met through Upwork, I believe it was another brand many years ago, have now been with our company for more than 18 years . They've become an indispensable part of our team. Too many businesses view freelance platforms as a way to find the lowest possible price. We've found the opposite approach works far better. Invest in people, treat them ethically, provide stability whenever possible, and you'll often gain loyal team members who genuinely care about your company's success. I try to remember that behind every Upwork profile is a real person supporting themselves or their family. I expect loyalty, professionalism, and notice when someone leaves my company, so I do my best to extend the same courtesy whenever possible. Clear expectations, fair compensation, and advance notice when work is ending aren't just good business—they're the foundation of ethical leadership and lasting professional relationships. That philosophy has helped us complete countless digital marketing, web development, AI automation, software development, and technology consulting projects over the years. Upwork isn't just a marketplace—it's a place where long-term partnerships can begin. Highly recommended. —Christy O'Connor Founder, OCONCO Marketing Digital Marketing & Smart Tech Since 1999
This company is terrible for American workers. It's like a sweatshop online where remote workers from India can make a living, but people in the U.S. need to make more than $1 per hour to survive. It's misleading and should be only allowed in countries who don't have minimum wage requirements. I have been using this website for years and then took a long break because it was getting absurdly expensive just to try to look at jobs. When I went back and checked to see if the company had gotten any better, it got even worse. This company should not be able to do business in the United States. They need rules on companies like this that if they're gonna post jobs in America, they have to at least offer minimum wage. Some of the jobs posted you would have to work for four hours and earn $10. That's not a joke.
