As I was not able to complete my review rating via autoresponder, I've decided to leave my response here.
Jacob fielded my call and handled my queries in short order despite the context being a fairly complex one. A personal thank you for making the experience a pain- and fuss-free one. Appreciate the assist!
While I understand the brand has not been particularly receiving rave reviews of late, I believe that a poor call center experience is not unique to just HSBC. Many across the industry would do well to learn from Jacob's handling of my case today.
Keep up the good work!
Like some of the reviewers here, I wish I can give '0'. As a Premier client, I felt insulted and mocked by this institution. I think they must have a very messy shared service centre and incompetent RMs to handle premier accounts. When I report a fraud, and they completely overlooked that and released payment to the merchant 2 days later, this itself they apologised and asked me to pay up else I lose my good credit standing. Is this threat or harassment or both? The case is still pending investigation and their T&C clearly states any unauthorised transaction is not subject to payment pending investigation. So they breach their own T&C. My disputes were repeatedly rejected on the basis of an OTP approval, and they completely ignored the police report that reported the scam incident, the missing SMS that never reached me - a sloppy investigation of incompetent people and processes. This is an institution of 100% apathy and zero empathy. I see so many bad reviews of them. Be like me and go to BNM because it is time they cannot stand behind their arrogance and stonewall customers. Consumers have rights to proper investigation, questions answered in a courteous and meaningful manner. And not be told by the bank they have an 'airtight' resolution to reject my case when my questions were left unaddressed. HSBC takes OTP approval as their only source of reference. They practically ignore the fraud detection, the fraud alert and the customer's call to block and report. The 'emergency brake' on their vehicle is a dummy switch. If an OTP is mistakenly approved, a fraud is detected, the principal card holder reports the fraud to stop and the bank still posts and releases the funds 2 days later and then turns around and tells the customer OTP approval is the only reference point in the investigation, then why do fraud detection system exist? Everyone, we can longer trust this kind of a financial institution which no longer operates to protect the customer or our money.
Unprofessional management and predatory practices for visa-locked deposits
My experience with this bank’s Premier division has been a complete nightmare characterized by unprofessional, incompetent relationship managers and severe understaffing. They lure clients in by selling dreams of high returns, but their actual practice is nothing short of predatory. Two years ago, I was explicitly promised a 4% rate for my mandatory PVIP visa deposit. However, at the exact moment of placement, they slashed the rate to 2.8%, immediately costing me an unrecoverable loss of RM 12,000. Because they know PVIP funds are legally locked by immigration, they exploited my situation the following year by forcing me to accept a miserable 2% board rate, knowing I had no power to withdraw. This is not honest banking; it is absolute extortion of trapped expatriate clients. To make matters worse, there are zero actual benefits to their "Premier" status. The only perk is free parking when you visit the branch, and even that depends entirely on luck if you can ever find a vacant spot. They treat high-net-worth clients like captive revenue streams. Stay far away.
Crappy bank that takes my interest on a large loan that is paid off within 3 years of 12 - ignores my requests to close - refuses to loan any more money and refers to me as a foreigner - racist bank - the worlds local bank bullshit - its sad the actual staff in the branch are kind and helpful but HSBC believes its better to close branches and fire loyal staff but pay a fortune for shit AI so the top dogs can make more and more money - useless banks
I would rate HSBC Malaysia zero stars if that were possible.
HSBC Malaysia requested supporting documents for domestic and international transfers (all under HSBC) between accounts under the same name dating back 12 months. This raises a serious concern: does the bank not retain or review transaction records for at least the past 12 months? It is unreasonable to expect customers to provide supporting documents for transactions that should already be traceable within the bank's own system.
What is even more surprising is that I was asked to provide a marriage certificate to prove my relationship with my wife, despite the fact that she has been holding an HSBC supplementary credit card linked to my account for more than 10 years. This information should already be available within HSBC's records.
As a Premier customer, I find this process highly inefficient, redundant, and disappointing. The repeated requests for information that the bank already possesses create unnecessary inconvenience and reflect poorly on the overall customer experience. HSBC should review and improve its internal processes to ensure a more seamless and customer-centric approach, particularly for long-standing Premier customers.
Can I give a 0 or - amount? Cos it deserves it. Been a premier account holder for over 8 years. Firstly, HSBC, do everyone a favor and remove the world premier and perhaps use budget or worst class banking which would seem more appropriate. So let me get this straight, u suspended my account without any prior notification or a courtesy call? Why? Because u alleged that I didn’t update my information? What info? My income and company I work for? Funny thing, my monthly salary from my employer has been credited to my HSBC account since the day I opened my account. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure this out. But, this shouldn’t be surprising coming from a self proclaimed and misguided “premier” banking consultant. Oxymoron at its finest. Keep it up. 👏👏👏
Literally, the most horrific customer service. My sccounts been used for unauthorised transactions and claiming any help or the money back is impossible. Slower than a snail and generic responses. They tend to prioritise the merchant and customer service is not in their vocabulary. I would avoid this like the plague and open an account with another bank. Do not bank with HSBC is you value your finances and security. Horrific
This is literally the worst shitiest bank in Malaysia, sucking slow response, don't care about their business, and their customer service team is damn rude and arrogant, never ever giving my business here. Thanks for nothing HSBC.
Pathetic Service, no Accountability. Absolutely unacceptable service and…
Absolutely unacceptable service and assistance with premier banking especially on foreign currency payments and incoming funds.
Recommend to rather avoid. They do not take ownership of transactions missed by them or not processed. It seems to be one big holiday for staff yet banking costs are extreme.
They expect 3-7 days over Christmas to clear salary payments made on the 18th of the month, from today 22 December, spoiling my Christmas break- no care and no effort to resolve. Appalling!
I booked a reservation and went there to open a bank account, but was rejected simply because i hold my MM2H deposit at another bank.
Crypto is fixing this, and Defi will take down these old banks like HSBC.

Let me firstly say that I’m somewhat shocked and dismayed by the large number of one star reviews here. From my point of view, I’ve always received decent service from HSBC Malaysia and I have been with them for over 10 years now. Yes, my relationship manager might change extremely regularly which I’m not happy with, but other than that, everything works. Staff are always friendly and courteous and do what they say they will. The online service allows me to do everything I want to and I rarely need to contact anyone within the bank. So all is good for me.
Called since mid July, and they mentioned they need to end the installment even though i have paid off the remaining. They expect customer to check if their job is done instead of informing customer the job is done. If you want to save trouble, dont choose this bank. Worse bank service ever!!! If there is a zero for this rating, i'd give that.
HSBC Sitting duck on my 5 Month old release letter request
I took a housing loan from HSBC bank , on March 2025 I settle the loan and request to get the release letter . It has already 5 Ugly Fish Month they has yet to sign the release letter. Not until my Wife walk into the 30th floor to Insist of getting the letter on the same day. The person whom has been sitting on this document should be put on the chopping board .
Customer Review – HSBC Case Ref: CMS 1051136
I was scammed out of thousands of ringgit, and it took me over a year to recover just 70% of the stolen amount. The handling of my case by HSBC and its managers was deeply disappointing and unacceptable. Despite numerous complaints and follow-ups, the lack of urgency, empathy, and accountability from the team made the entire experience extremely stressful and frustrating.
However, I want to sincerely thank Cynthia, the only manager who truly stepped up. She took the time to understand my situation, respected my rights as a customer, and showed genuine care and professionalism throughout the process. Her dedication made a real difference, and I believe she absolutely deserves a promotion for her outstanding service.
Thanks to Cynthia, my case is now closed. Starting today, I will reactivate my HSBC card after more than a year of not using it due to this incident. I hope HSBC takes this feedback seriously and ensures that more of its staff follow Cynthia’s example in handling customer issues with empathy and efficiency.
I called the customer service from overseas to resolve my transfer, was put on hold and got disconnected. Called again the 2nd time, I was put on hold as they would pass to the agent and after 10 mins got disconnected again. Not sure, purposely disconnected or not. No return call. Waste phone bills (as the call was from overseas) and time. Never found these treatments with other banks.
This bank comprises the customer information to scammers. I have been victim of scam for second time first it happened on my credit card and now it happened from my debit card. And both time the transaction was done overseas. This time I have lodged a police complain with Malaysia police. I hope HSBC bank representative reads this and realise how bad is your bank and the reputation is negative.
Been with HSBC since 2011, but it is peak when I am still being charged ridiculous amount of finance charges (even though I have made full payment of the CC). Requested for a full calculation of the finance charges, never got it. Customer service only available during working hours, otherwise you are stuck with a chatbot who can not help much.
Enough is enough, am closing all accounts on HSBC.
