What people say

I do not like the price

I do not, and do not intend to, use a lot of the features that are on this version of Quicken. I find it very expensive for what I do use it for, straight forward balancing of multiple checking accounts. Is there a basic version available? Otherwise, I think this is the last time I am renewing it.

Terrible customer service!!wote you an email about 10 days ago…

I wote you an email about 10 days ago about CANCELING my subscription. I have still not gotten an answer, and you made me pay for something I don’t use. When can I expect to hear from Quicken?

I've been using Quicken for about 30…

I've been using Quicken for about 30 years and I love it. The only thing I would improve on is the speed of importing transactions. Downloading the transactions is not the problem. Once I hit "Save" it takes a few seconds to finish. Maybe it's because my database is large and I will have to live with that.

Quicken is very fragile

Quicken is very fragile. Connections to outside vendors, i.e. bank and credit card companies sometimes work sometimes don’t. Also The feature keeping track of future payments is pretty sketch. The renaming rules is clunky to understand. Continue to use it because I’ve been a customer for 40 years now and I don’t know of a good replacement. I do like the budgeting feature.

I don't want to back up my information to the cloud.

The person eventually solved my problem, but my file ended up in a bit of a mess - missing and incorrect entries. The thing that really irked me, though, was that I told him I did not want to store my information in the cloud, that I back up regularly to a local device. When I went to close Quicken after our session, it said that it was backing up to the cloud and I had to put quite a bit of effort into stopping the process.

You kept denying perfectly good credit…

You kept denying perfectly good credit cards for payment. As far as the product, there are annoying things that make it not user friendly. Such as clearly entering a charge in the amount charged column and have it appear as a deposit. Why do I randomly have to put a negative sign before it as a charge?

For the basics

For the basics, like using as a check register it works fine. And keeping my historical buys & sells with the cost basis. My biggest issue has been and continues is the set up. Recently I had to establish another account (Inherited IRA). This involved not only cash but shares of mutual funds and individual corporate bonds I received. Similar to other accounts I've established over the years, I have the new account established BUT because of the way I've apparently set them I am limited in how I can use them. Something to do with the choice of a banking (checking) account vs a investment account. I think!! Then when you are establishing these new investments into the account, how you reflect the new shares be added can also be very confusing. This has knock on effects going forward because even basic functions like monthly recs and reports highlight with a warning that a "Placeholder entries for missing data". Whatever that means.

It's convenient except when it isn't

It's convenient in that it makes reconciling accounts fairly easy if you can download the transaction. But not many financial institutions that I use will download during an "update." And even my Citizens Bank credit card won't download at the same time as my Citizens Bank checking accounts because they are on different websites and if you indicate that the credit card is with Citizens Bank, it won't let you tell it do download from a different URL. Actually, the updates used to work MUCH more consistently, but that was my memory from at least 8-10 years ago. What did Quicken break since then without fixing???

Really good...but could be even better

I've been a Quicken user since Microsoft Money was discontinued in 2010. Seems like until recently, I was always running into new bugs -- replacing old ones that got fixed -- but they finally seem to have that under control now. However, my last auto-renewal was anything BUT smooth. My card was declined for some unknown reason (they didn't specify), and I was unable to fix it for over 24 hours. Perhaps if they finally get all the bugs worked out AND get the auto-renew issues fixed, then perhaps I can raise my rating to 4 or 5 stars in the future.

Quicken is affordable and appears to be…

Quicken is affordable and appears to be the best personal finance system out there. But Quicken does not have the power I would like in an accounting system. As a CPA(non-practicing) I was hoping to get a more traditional accounting system. I like the checks and balances found in a double entry system like Quickbooks. Unfortunately Intuit has made Quickbooks unaffordable for a personal finance system. I am not happy with the subscription services format with both these products.

I have used Quicken for nearly 27 years.

I have used Quicken for 27 years and have saved meticulous electronic financial records from then through now. I wonder how I would do/plan my finances without Quicken. My only complaint is I used to own my versions of Quicken and would only have to pay once, and only have to pay again if I wanted to upgrade. Now I am only "renting" Quicken, and now have to pay "rent" every year in perpetuity. I own my home instead of renting for a reason. I wish I could own my quicken again.

A Loyal but Unhappy User

I’m a legacy Quicken user since the early 1990s. I hate the fact that you have moved to a subscription-based service that requires annual payments to manage my personal finances. I love the product, but hate paying the annual fee. It’s become an annoying reminder each year that I am merely “renting” your software rather than owning a license in perpetuity. My needs haven’t changed, Your product now has many features I didn’t ask for or need, but I’m paying for them anyway! Increase your revenues by attracting more customers and not by loading new fees on your existing loyal users.
