Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many travelers frequently encountered frustrating flight delays, poor seating conditions, and a complete lack of communication from ground staff during their journeys. Consumers also reported dealing with unhelpful customer support teams, unexpected heavy fees for checked baggage, and sudden schedule changes that ruined their travel plans.
Some reviewers were happy with the friendly cabin crew, tasty meals, and overall smooth, on-time flights that successfully met their expectations. A few other people also mentioned that the check-in process went quite smoothly and baggage collection at the airport was very quick.
Plenty of legroom, Perth Akl, good price, had to rebook return several times due to family bereavement there and it was quickly sorted despite being non refundable.
Booked through Flightnetwork by mistake-never again, they were pr+cks until I dealt direct with Batik.
Probably the best budget airline i've flown with. Efficient check-in, super-nice flight crew and best of all bags included in the price - nice not to have to mess around with that
Booked on Batik air as very cheap. Airline was half hour delay in departing Sydney, no big deal most other airlines I travel on seems to have timing issues. Was a little bit apprehensive due to bad reviews.
My experience was not negative in any way. Leg room was good polite staff, clean airline, food purchased pre flight was good, purchase in cabin efficient, accepted Aus$ in cash, in flight entertainment a bit confusing ad had to use own device but no bigee as I could have accessed using my tablet..could be clearer instructions....otherwise good flight...my baggage arrived on time.
As a frequent international traveller both up market and budget I WOULD USE AGAIN.
Our flight itself was fine, the plane was relatively clean and staff were friendly. No one's credit card would seem to work so many people couldn't buy food and went hungry.
We weren't originally meant to be flying Batik but my husband and I missed our Malaysia Airlines flight due to their poorly managed transfer desk and complete disregard to find us in the line at the airport.
As a result one staff member encouraged us to book a new flight with Batik Air as the cost was much lower than a new Malaysia Airlines flight. She said online it appeared to be around $500 AUD for the two of us.
We immediately headed out to collect our baggage and over to the Batik Air desk as quickly as possible.
The customer service assistant told us the flights were $377 AUD in total from Kuala Lumpur to Perth. We were surprised it was even cheaper but thought it was perhaps given the flight was leaving in a matter of hours. She also showed us the 377 total on the calculator and said it was in AUD and the total for both of us.
As we were very tired (had no sleep the night before on two other flights) and the payment was made in the local currency, we did not notice we were in fact charged around $1,200 AUD. We only saw this when we returned to Perth and checked our bank statement a few days later. This was a very disappointing way to end our honeymoon after an absolutely abhorrent experience with Malaysia Airlines. I will be avoiding all Malaysian airlines for future travel.
I used Batik Air 4 times in 5 days flying from Perth Western Australia to Jakarta. Then to SOLO and return 4 days later. I was impressed. My return flight from SOLO to Jakarta was cancelled. I received this news via email and I had already been placed in an earlier flight the same day 4 hours before the original flight. I contacted Batik Air via email to confirm and this was an easy exercise. Their level of communication is fantastic. Email. Messages and WhatsApp all used to remind me of flights and any changes. I will certainly use Batik Air again. Thank you Batik Air!
I booked a flight from Singapore to Makassar. Having read so many horror stories about Batik Air, I was really worried particularly about flight cancellation and delay. But my experience turned out to be quite positive, there was no glitch and I did not find it much different from other more reputable low cost carriers. There was even inflight entertainment and snack and drinks provided. Will book again.
Exceptional First-Time Flight Experience with Batik Air
I flew with Batik Air on October 9th, 2023, for the first time. Despite being aware of the rather negative reviews, I decided to experience it for myself since the price-performance ratio (value for money) was significantly better than other airlines.
I had a substantial amount of luggage, for which I purchased additional weight allowance, and I also desired extra legroom. Surprisingly, the additional costs were much more reasonable compared to other airlines, where I would have had to pay a small fortune.
From my first encounter at the check-in counter at 4 am, I had the pleasure of experiencing exceptional customer service from Matthew. He went above and beyond to assist me with some issues, and we even had a pleasant conversation about Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.
The outstanding customer service continued throughout the entire journey. Everyone I encountered was incredibly friendly and had a genuine smile on their face.
My flight took me from Brisbane to Kuala Lumpur with a one-hour layover in Bali, and everything went smoothly to my satisfaction.
I had pre-purchased meals, which were promptly delivered, and I spent most of the flight comfortably sleeping in my seat.
Since this was a smaller aircraft, it did not have onboard entertainment. However, in today's era where almost everyone carries their own screens, this was not really a requirement.
Upon landing in Kuala Lumpur and clearing immigration, I was pleased to find my two suitcases standing side by side in good condition beside the luggage carousel.
Having not flown in years, I was initially sceptical about using this airline for the first time, but I am extremely glad that I did.
I wanted to express my gratitude and leave a glowing review of my fantastic experience, extending my thanks to everyone, from the airport staff to the airplane crew.
Worst airline I've ever been on. A third of the chairs are broken. None of the entertainment work. The tables are broken and taped shut rendering it completely unusable. The stewardess forgot to give me my in flight meal which I paid for. I had to remind them to which they said I need to pay for a meal I already paid for. I eventually got my meal but it wasn't worth the awkward confrontation.
Used to be good when it was launched and called Malindo Air.
It slowly turned into a really bad low-cost airline. And then came covid. Post-covid the prices are crazy high. I get it that all airlines are trying to recover their losses post-covid (at daylight robbery speed, I might add), but charging full service airline prices for a really crappy low-budget, low-cost, no-frill airline is completely and utterly a scam! Yes, the prices are really comparable to Malaysia Airlines for the same sector!
The planes are not kept well at all (bad broken seats, unclean toilets), entertainment systems have disappeared, business class is a hit-or-miss (in that, you never know what you are booking for, most of their fleet does not have one).
Everything from water to meals have to be purchased! Even on the rare occasions that the plane has an entertainment system, even the headsets have to be purchased! That's when you know that the airline company is taking you (the gullible consumer with no choice - not many airline options for my flight sector) for a ride!
They always keep sending these emails with promo fares. When you click on the mail, it leads to the "promo" page with a "Book" button next to the destination that is being promo'ed. It leads to a flight search popup window which invariably has all search parameters (location, to and from dates, class etc.) disabled. Don't ever fall for those "promo" emails - they are nothing but pure scams to bait you into land on their website.
All in all, seems a desperate yet mistargeted attempt to keep a flailing airline afloat!
Bring back the old and better Malindo Air, not the messy, scammy, ill-managed B*tt-tick Air.
I flew from Singapore to Kathmandu on 5th August to 13th August. I must commend that staff are polite and all is good. In spite of some technical issues of the aircraft in KL the crew did their best , profusely apologiesing for the delays which no fault of the cabin crew. The crew carried out their duties as good as any airlines and they are commendable.
However the counters that handles the whatapp and email need to be more responsive and prompt. It seems there is no cordination and synchronized in task or follow up beween the admin staffs e. g. the whatsapp group not aware the emails been replied /updated by the passenger. Put it simply left hand dies not know what tje right hand is doing.
I once again will shout out to All Batik Air cabin crew" You guys served with smile and good services 20000 feet in the skies :)".
THANK YOU !!!!!!!
I'm very impressed with this airline, and am somewhat surprised to read the number of negative reviews on here. Certainly not my experience on recent KUL to DPS flights. The planes were clean, the crew very welcoming and professional, and we took off and landed on time. A much better experience than with the European Low cost carriers that I normally fly.
I recently had a flight from Perth to Kuala Lumpur then connecting flight with different airline but all I can say is that Batik airways were fantastic. I travelled alone with an infant and my anxiety was so high about this flight.
The flight attendants was sooo helpful on this flight, they checked on me if I needed anything, helped me with my carry on bag and the pram, handed me down my nappy bag after take off, even offered to hold my baby if I needed to go to the toilet. Unfortunately I don’t know their names but wish I asked. I’m so thankful to them for making my flight so easy and calm for me. Thank you so much.
Also want to thank the online (WhatsApp )help service for answering all my questions so quickly, honestly I thought they would answer the next day but they did within a few minutes.
Cheap. On time. Very organised. But mostly no-nonsense: we took off, they came round with a pastry and water, and left us to it. Perfect. No irritating announcements, no coming up and down trying to sell things. I liked it. It was a 2 1/2 hour flight from Singapore to Bali and was hassle free
We booked trough an agent and they told us we can change at any times but never mention 700 Rp x person ….. the airline was on time to go but 1.5 hirs late to comeback then took another 50 minutes to get bags on carousel… very frustrating!!!!
I was nervous using Batik due to the bad reviews but they were the cheapest option for a last minute flight from Syd to Bali, $200 cheaper than Jetstar inc baggage. The plane was clean, there was a headrest in the seat which helps to nap, and the flight was great both ways, luggage arrived safe and well. The food was tasty too, had a nice green Thai curry. The loss of one star is for not being allowed to take water on board - I'll hide it better next time. Not taking debit cards (only credit cards) is also annoying, as I'd spent all my Rupiah, but it was a night flight so I slept most of the journey, so no big deal on this occasion. If you're looking for a good value flight, I recommend them! I would use them again. Some people really need to chill out on these comments.
Batik Air - to improve, please allow airport-bought water on board and allow debit card usage, you'll make more money
After reading all the bad reviews I was a bit concerned but my experience hasn't been that bad actually.... Before boarding we've been given some snacks and water and on board the staff gave us a free meal and water again for free. Lot of leg room and also free entertainment despite the short flight (bali-jakarta in my case).
The only problem, that unfortunately seems to be the issue of all the Indonesian companies, was the delayed departure of almost 2 hours, due to bad weather conditions at the destination. So, if like me you have another flight to catch, make sure you give yourself plenty of time for the connection, as the probability of a delay is very high.
Except for this, I would recommend Batik for short flights, they are better than many others low cost companies around the World.
Despite a full plane-load, the boarding was at the usual time of half-hour prior, resulting in long queues in SIN. First, for security check at which the lady-staff member kept screaming commands at passengers as if we were her prisoners.
Then there was another queue to have the boarding pass checked off - and there was only one airline staff member when it should have been at least two, if not three. Finally there was a long queue in the airbridge - very risky for covid-spread.
Because the staff did not implement the rule about only one cabin luggage, the overhead bins were soon overfull. Quite a few passengers were coughing regularly and the cabin crew took no notice and suggest they wear face-masks.
There was a stop-over in Bali enroute to Perth, where normally airlines allow through-going passengers to either stay aboard or disembark to a transit lounge. Here we were issued new boarding passes, and had to go through an electronic security check. Then after walking almost the length of the terminus to return to the plane's gate, all passengers were subject to a physical check of all our hand luggage at which water was confiscated!
If the intent was for passengers to patronise the shops in the terminus and create jobs for airport staff, we were all too anxious to make it back to the aircraft on time and too stressed to even think about it.
Absolute garbage, worst flight ever. 6 hour flight from KL into Perth. No complimentary drinks or food. You had to pay
silly prices.
Worst landing I've ever known, in perfect weather conditions.
Get a grip Batik, its 2023 not 1923.
