Unresolved AC unit for 13 days - DENIED CLAIM

American Home Shield (AHS) mission, goals, and purpose - Help people feel in control and secure? Making day to day ownership easier and less stressful? Does any of the goal apply after reading below? I will not be using AHS - fraud, scam, despicable, disgusting people and company. I am sick to my stomach to see how their employees live as human beings, just trained dogs. Absolutely unethical and disgusting. I called AHS on 7/17 with an AC unit down, early Friday morning. Tells me to pay service fee $100 on top of premium I paid already. Had to wait until Tuesday 7/21 for a tech who showed up late afternoon (basically 5 days passed - these are basically AHS scumbag partners who help them to jack up the costs, deny claims, and give customers hell). Technician checks outside unit pressure very low, already says it's my evaporator coil. Without any pressure testing, isolation, dye, etc...he says i need to replace my evap coil and writes up estimate. Next day AHS says even though my top plan covers the item, they deny the claim first and says I need to wait for another second opinion, to come 3 days later. By the time i get the second tech out here, it was 8 days without AC. I may be wasting time writing this review because they still operate, but I just wanted to add to other AHS reviews and tell people I'm going through same (some sound much worse than my case). If they deny my legitimate covered claim or delay more after second opinion, that's it for me... no more American Home Shield (no more!). 10th day as of today (7/27). No resolution yet in Houston weather. They are bouncing me around sending emails and asking if my request is resolved and telling me to email their social media email address? Just get to it..AHS is wasting time on purpose. I already had the second opinion technician came out and make the same diagnosis. Let's expedite this. 7/28 I receive an email stating covered item was approved and i need to accept non-covered item costs and i did. The next day 7/29, i get another email stating they need to make changes and wait again for the contractor to send complete report. There is no escalation, no care for customers when my house is reaching 95deg F +. So far, I had to call AHS and their contractor more than 15 times combined already, AHS sends emails stating they are checking my status after 12 days past my service request..on going hell. ***Here is what I just found out....they had sent me an email yesterday night (7/28/26) stating my non-covered out of pocket would be $1090 payable to the contractor to complete the service that I accepted on email they sent. However, today, I wasn't getting any response...so I called them multiple times and they stated now my out of pocket expense is $2790. I went back to the email they sent and they had altered the amount from $1090 to $2790 (playing a scam here). After numerous calls and extremely stressful arguments, they still made the decision to DENY my claim and will not refund the premium nor the service fee. AHS is a filthy scumbag company that trains their employees and contractors to delay claims, deliberately changes account notes/prices and deny claims on legitimate claims. DO NOT BUY AMERICAN HOME SHIELD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT BUY AMERICAN HOME SHIELD - SCAM DO NOT BUY AMERICAN HOME SHIELD - SCAM

American Home Shield is Horrible

I’ve been an American Home Shield customer for many years and for three homes dating back to 2005, and service with AHS has deteriorated beyond acceptable. For many, many years, AHS provided excellent customer support and service. This has drastically plummeted over the past three years. It now takes 90 minutes to two hours to speak with customer support, and a wait time of four weeks for basic A/C service. The purchase of five portable A/C units has completely offset the “savings” of this warranty program that fails its customers. AHS often has only one or two service providers available for large city areas, so customers must wait many weeks for service. AHS provides a false sense of security and is no longer worth the cost as they fail to deliver in a reasonable timeframe. Also, they’ve added many “fine print” provisions where many significant limitations and restrictions now exist. I can no longer recommend AHS.

Chad, thank you for your loyalty and trust in AHS over the past two decades. We're sorry to hear that your recent experiences have not reflected the level of service you previously received. We understand how frustrating extended wait times, delays in A/C service, and coverage concerns can be, especially when timely assistance is needed. After five years as an American Home…

After five years as an American Home Shield customer, I have officially canceled my policy. In those five years, I’ve only had to file two claims, and unfortunately, both experiences were extremely disappointing. My family has now been without air conditioning for two months during the Texas summer. I have a 3-year-old and a 7-year-old, and despite explaining the urgency, American Home Shield continues to tell me the parts are on backorder with no estimated delivery date. They refuse to replace the unit, even though there is no timeline for when the repairs can be completed. Every time I call, I get transferred from one representative to another. I’m repeatedly told to wait another 2–3 days for an update, only to receive no real answers. The lack of communication and customer service has been unacceptable. American Home Shield assigned American Air Conditioning & Heating Co. to handle the repair. It took them two weeks just to submit their diagnosis. When I finally spoke with someone at the company, the representative was rude and unhelpful. To make matters worse, after their technician worked on my unit, two additional parts failed. Instead of accepting responsibility, they claimed the damage was pre-existing and refused to cover the repairs, even though those issues occurred after their service. American Home Shield needs to do a much better job vetting the contractors they send into customers’ homes. They should partner with companies that have knowledgeable technicians, excellent customer service, and prompt response times. Based on my experience, this contractor fell far short of those expectations. Sadly, this isn’t my first bad experience. My previous claim was for a washing machine, and it took two years to get that issue resolved. Now I’m dealing with two months without air conditioning. After two terrible experiences, I can no longer recommend this company. If you’re considering American Home Shield, I strongly encourage you to read the reviews—especially the negative ones—before purchasing a policy. A home warranty is supposed to provide peace of mind during stressful situations. Unfortunately, my experience has been the exact opposite. My family is also canceling their home warranty with them because of this experience, they worry it could happen to them too. When I was canceling with them. They offered me $256 as a cash out, which I feel is a slap in my face. The ac repair is more than that. We need. We need the compressor, coils, control board and the pxv valve. That is more than 5,000 in parts. Glad I don’t have to deal with them anymore. Going to find a new warranty company.

American Home Shield is a terrible…

American Home Shield is a terrible company to use as a home warranty provider. My central air has been out for 12 days now because of the lack of urgency and scamming ways of this company. This company doesn't give a damn if it's 90 degrees inside your house or if your little kids cant sleep at night. I currently have the platinum plan which is the highest plan available. I'm paying $130 a month for this warranty and still have to pay a 100 dollar service fee to receive any type of service which is a scam already in itself. So far, I've been forced to buy a $500 portable ac unit to keep my family some what comfortable until my central air is fixed. On Monday July 20th a technician finally diagnosed my ac and discovered that the compressor is bad. However It took American Home Shield 2 full days to approve the estimate provided by the hvac contractor. Today is Thursday July 23rd, and only after I was forced to pay $358 in non covered cost "an electrical wire" the Hvac company can now order the replacement part which will now take who knows how long for them to receive the part and schedule an appointment to come out to my house to fix my ac. Which will probably be a couple more days. This company does not care about the customer and I would advise someone thats looking for a warranty company to look elsewhere or just save that $130 a month for a rainy day and pay a company out of your own pocket to fix breakdowns. American Home Shield only works with certain contractors causing unusual waiting times to get service if their contractors are busy, Meanwhile there are plenty other contractors open, available and qualified to fix your issue.

★☆☆☆☆ I have been an American Home Shield customer for many years, but after this experience, I will be canceling my coverage. I opened an HVAC claim on June 3, and as of July 23, I am still without air conditioning. AHS assigned my claim to Bennett Air in Waldorf, MD. On June 11, their technicians told me I needed a complete HVAC system upgrade, so I agreed and paid for the upgrade. From that point forward, communication was terrible. Weeks went by with no installation date, and I had to repeatedly call Bennett Air just to get updates. They rarely responded, and when I finally canceled the installation on July 14 and requested the cash-out option, I learned that AHS itself could not even reach Bennett Air for two days. If AHS couldn’t get a response from its own contractor, imagine how frustrating it was for me as the customer. The most upsetting part is that after I canceled, I was told by AHS—and later by the owner of Bennett Air—that my evaporator coil could have been repaired. That completely contradicted what the technicians told me when they encouraged me to purchase an expensive system upgrade. Now AHS wants to deduct money from my cash-out for equipment that Bennett Air never had available to install in the first place. That makes no sense and is completely unfair. To make matters worse, it is nearly impossible to speak with a supervisor or anyone in the Cash-Out Department. You are told to wait days for a callback while continuing to live without air conditioning. After nearly two months without AC, poor communication, conflicting information, and unfair treatment, I have lost confidence in American Home Shield. I cannot recommend them based on my experience.

They take too long to get someone out

They take too long to get someone out. I waited a week in over 90 degrees, just for tech to misdiagnose the condition. I wasted the $125 fee they charge to have someone come out and still had to pay someone for the actual problem. When I reached out to see what they would do considering they didn't repair because they say it was a pre existing problem on a new unit and it was not even what was wrong. They told me they have to go by their techs diagnosis. Ill be glad when contract is up!

Just save your money up for the repairs.

I just had my contract renewed. It had been $175 previously, with one small call out to fix a clogged sink. Now they raised it to $233. I don't own a mansion. I have a modest four bedroom house with a pool. I put in a ticket for two small repairs that should take a total of 30 minutes and maybe $40 to repair. They sent out these losers who didn't even bring a plunger with them, and tried to charge me extra for something they claimed AHS wouldn't approve before even asking AHS if it would be approved. I have been with AHS since 2018, and they were never really good. Now they're awful and expensive. I'd rather just save the money every month up to have repairs done as needed. What a ripoff.

I called American Home Shield when my AC broke down. The technician said it only needed refrigerant and charged me $417, saying it was fixed. Less than a month later, my AC broke down again. They sent a different technician who gave a completely different diagnosis. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars, and my AC still doesn’t work. Very disappointing experience. I do not recommend American Home Shield.

American Home Shield has left my…

American Home Shield has left my residential tenants without a working air conditioner for nearly FOUR MONTHS. The original complaint was filed on 4/9/2026. They have repeatedly failed to ship the correct AC compressor to their local contractor. Tomorrow, the local Texas temperature is hitting 106°F.My tenants are trapped in dangerously hot indoor conditions while AHS customer service and their "escalation team" do nothing but give me the runaround and break promises. They refuse to provide email addresses, transparent tracking numbers, or a timeline for resolution. I have filed formal regulatory complaints with the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) and the Texas Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division for deceptive trade practices and tenant endangerment. Do not buy a policy from this company—they will abandon you in a life-threatening utility crisis. Contract Number: [Stephanie Sepolio #681948898]

American Home Shield is an absolutely horrible home warranty company. Our A/C has been out in Austin since Wednesday (one week). Now, I can't even get Amy Hilleshiem -Escalation Associate II | Executive Relations - Frontdoor Inc. | American Home Shield to call me back. My email to CEO William Cobb is what got Amy to finally email me (once). If you call their 800 number, you get stuck with a call center in the Philippines who can not help you. Save your money

I paid American Home Shield my $125 service fee for an AC repair in July. They assigned A-Us Air Cond Of Texas Ltd, who completely botched the installation of a new coil, skipped a mandatory pressure test, and left us without air conditioning in triple-digit Texas heat. An independent inspection by a licensed HVAC company confirmed that the contractor's sloppy install caused a massive loss of refrigerant and critical compressor crankcase oil, putting our unit at high risk of premature failure. When I immediately notified American Home Shield that the repair was not fixed properly and that we were stranded in severe heat—with my wife being a disabled veteran who works from home—AHS completely washed their hands of the situation. Instead of stepping in, sending an emergency backup technician, or holding their contractor accountable, they told me that "all matters need to be discussed with A-US Air Conditioning." AHS took my $125 fee to send a negligent contractor into my home, and the moment that contractor compromised my HVAC system, AHS refused to help. In my opinion they do not vet their service network, and they offer zero consumer protection when their contractors cause damage. Avoid this home warranty company at all costs.

6 Years and $76000 later-AHS NOT WORTH IT!

We have had this warranty for over 6 years because in the back of your mind you feel like it’s something that will help repair or replace things that you do not wish to dump money on in one sitting. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS HOME WARRANTY SERVICE! Conventional wisdom and common sense do not penetrate an emotional purchase and this membership is just that. If you have an emergency fund it will work better than this stupid warranty! They cover NOTHING! You pay monthly and you pay everytime someone comes out and EVERYTIME WHATEVER THE PROBLEM IS; IT JUST SO HAPPENS TO BE OUTSIDE OF THE COVERAGE SCOPE! I have spent over $1200 for the membership alone not including fees for repair people to come out. I have spent $1000’s paying a third party to repair what the incompetent buffoons they send to my house didn’t/couldnt/ alleged they fixed but just to find out later they didn’t! Recently there was a power outage and my fridge went out. I needed someone immediately out to fix it cause my food was going to spoil. Of alllllllllll the appliance companies that exist in NC they could not find one to help me in this emergency situation. I went out and spent $1900 on a beautiful new fridge, I decided to hire my own repair person and come to find out several days later before the repair person even showed up the fridge was working! I would have known that if they had someone come out on the day I called them to assess the it but instead they gave me the run around, had me calling and following up with the appliance repair companies they assigned and did NOTHING to help me. Folks if you’re able to pay AHS over $1000 a year with out including all the other expenses they tag on the YOU ARE ABLE TO SAVE AND CREATE AN EMERGENCY FUND that will be infinitely better than this money racket! It is a money racket and they bleed stupid people like me dry everyday. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! Honestly I’ve seen people with timeshares make out better than I did with AHS. THEY ARE AWFUL!
