11 Days small group tour to Shanghai Zhangjiajie XiAn Beijing
Thanks to our travel consultant, Isaac Wei, and 4 tour guides in each city, my husband and I enjoyed this hassle-free trip. Isaac is sincere, helpful & quick to respond, easing our worries about dealing with someone new online.
Highly recommended to download Wechat for fast and easy communications in China with Isaac and each city guide. (Can't access Gmail) Especially one of our local flights got delayed at midnight, thanks to Zhangjiajie tour guide Xenia, who followed up with us and knew the situation, grouped us with Isaac and Anna to help us get the latest updates etc & gave us peace of mind that everything is in their care. Xenia is also very knowledgeable about the route and super caring to us, like our kids. We felt relaxed and happy sightseeing with her.
Try to avoid visiting Shanghai Yu Garden on Monday as it is closed, but you can hang around the wider Chinatown-type area.
Things to improve are to send out details of the hotel, trains, and flights at each city in the itinerary document before the commencement of the trip/before guests depart. Any last-minute changes to inform guests accordingly.
Overall, we felt fully taken care of in all the arrangements and would recommend this company to our friends.
Asia Odyssey is flexible and will tailor a tour to how one intends it to be. We are seasoned travellers and chose to take away the hustles of transportation as well as entrances to attractions We value local knowledge which for the case of China is somewhat hard to come by, hence, Runny Zhu of Asia Odyssey helped with assigning an experienced and knowledgeable local guide bringing us to all identified attractions at Xiamen, Tulou@Nanjing, Shantou and Chaozhou. She arranged for a coach bus to pick us up at Xiamen Gaoqi Airport, follow us for the whole journey together with the guide and return us on the last day to the same airport. We visited all the selected attractions and had authentic meals. We are thrilled with the enchanting experience which was peppered with lots of background stories from the guide, Micheal Wen.
Chance upon Asia Odyssey Travel on Internet when I was looking for tour day trips to Suzhou and Hangzhou. Saw a lot of positive reviews on this travel agency and Rex. Thus I contacted Rex and he was very responsive and helpful throughout the whole booking. He even went extra mile to cater a mini bus for my two days trips as he din want to trouble my old parents to go through the change of bus to railway train. The day trips for my family (4 adults and 3 children) met all our expectations. We enjoyed suzhou garden exploring and the hangzhou west lake beautiful scenery.
Our family of 12 had a great adventure traveling to Zhangjiajie. Isaac was our agent and was quick in replying to our endless queries. On top of land arrangements, he helped us book bullet train tickets from HK to Zhangjiajie and arranged the trip according to our family needs since I was with my 85 year old mom.
Our tour guide Mike took care of our family. He attended to all our request and we really had a grand adventure. Thank you and happy new year!

Just returned from a fantastic 6 trip to Bhutan. Our guide Sonam & driver Mr Wangchuk were extremely friendly & helpful, they went above & beyond to ensure we did everything that we wanted to see & do. A beautiful country with amazing fortresses & temples, a unique country with friendly people.
I got a tour to Tibet and had a great experience.
From the start I was contacted by Fox and he took care of everything for me: visa entries for Tibet, flight tickets, contact with local guides, instructions about how to dress up appropriately and how to handle altitude sickness.
It was a great experience to have someone attentive with the trip organisation.
During my days in Tibet I was in a small group with people that didn’t speak English. Only the guide would speak English, and our driver, although he wouldn’t speak English, he was also super friendly and attentive to my needs.
The food and suggestions offered by the tour guide were always on point. I do feel my guide went the extra mile to make me comfortable, maybe because I had no one else to talk to. I think if there were more English speakers in the group to share this experience with, it would have been a plus. Nevertheless it was a great trip and I totally recommend it.
Ps: I went as well to the Everest base camp and bought an oxygen tank that it was too big, I bought it as precaution and I do refrer a little because it was expensive. I saw people there with ones half of the size I got. If you don’t have many altitude symptoms, a medium tank is enough to provide peace of mind.
We had a mixed experience with Asia Odyssey during our eighth day of touring in China. The initial communication with Travel Consultant Allan was excellent, and he did a great job convincing us to join the organised tour.
In Beijing and Xi’an, we were guided by professionals—David and Linda—who shared insightful historical knowledge and local culture. Having a world-class guide like Linda is certainly an asset for Asia Odyssey.
However, our expectations faltered upon reaching the final destination, Shanghai. The tour seemed to peak before we arrived, and the days in Shanghai felt disorganised and off-plan. It became clear that Asia Odyssey would benefit from hiring a more qualified guide for this portion of the tour.
From a customer experience standpoint, it seems there is a communication gap between the tour planning and the operators. What was promised to us was not effectively communicated to those running the tour. Additionally, there appeared to be a lack of coordination and continuous oversight to ensure the tour progressed smoothly and maintained a focus on customer satisfaction.

Initially, the quotations were not clear regarding the final fee. China tour - 10 days ( Beijing, Xian, Guilin, Shanghai)
1) The itinerary is quite good as it included a combination of history, cultural experience, nature, amazing structures, great landscapes.
2) The food and commute arrangements were very good.
3) The guides arranged were very accommodating and very considerate of every members needs.
4) It was never stressful, even in instances of uncontrollable situations like bad weather etc, alternate arrangements were done ensuring not much impact. If any attraction could not covered due to uncontrollable condition refund was promptly done.
5) Customers comfort was given the highest importance.
6) Can relook on the itinerary if some of the sights can't be covered due to difficulty in getting entrance ( or can be mentioned as optional), to avoid disappointment later.
The trip took place 02.04.2024–12.04.2024.
Shanghai →(plane) Zhangjiajie → (plane) Xi’an → (bullet train) Beijing.
I had a mixed experience with this company. From one hand we visited a lot of interesting places, from the other - a company made a lot of mistakes during our trip.
I rate this company for 2/5 to bring your attention to some moments from our trip which were described in more details on the medium.com. Google it by "China Tour with Asia Odyssey Travel: Rookie Mistakes by Experienced Company" - I can't add a link here due to the policy of the platform.
Some short info with ratings:
- Contact person: 2/5 stars. A contact person Allan was quite communicative before paying the deposit and changed a lot to the worse side afterward. His response time by email increased dramatically. He didn’t provide enough transparency through the whole trip: no official hotels confirmation, no guides’ contacts in advance (we had to ask it ourselves), no info in advance about the situation with VPN, useful apps (such as AliPay, WeChat etc), simcards etc.
- A guid in Xi'an: 5/5 stars. The guid Waldner is a really experienced guy. I really enjoy spending time with him in Xi’an. I wish there were more guides like him.
- A guid in Zhangjiajie: 4.5/5 stars. The guid Joy a really good and chill person. We also enjoyed spending time with her in Zhangjiajie. This place didn’t require a lot of historical introductions and I guess the guid is a perfect fit for this place. She is really active person.
- A guide in Shanghai: 4/5 stars. The guide Maria in Shanghai is quite interesting guide, but works sometimes without interaction with a group. When she explains something, there is a feeling she doesn’t really care if a group listens or not.
- A guide in Beijing 2.5/5 stars. A guide Linda from Beijing also has enough knowledge about attractions in Beijing and good restaurants, but I have to say she should work on her English. Sometimes it was hard to catch what she was saying and also the speech contained a lot of repetitive words such as “you know”, “yeah yeah yeah”, “yes yes yes”. They were included quite a lot of time in her speeches — it was difficult to follow. Once she took our bags without a lot of explanations and went to other queue and told us to stay in different queue. We managed to finish the line before her and were quite stressful because of this “not making any sense” decision with a different queue.
Transfers were organised really good.
- Hotels: 5/5 stars. All hotels were really great. Most of the breakfasts contained enough options. A hotel in Zhangjiajie had only few options, but for me it was good.
- Visited places: 5/5 stars. All places were incredibly interesting to visit. All guides bought tickets for us and helped us to go trough the security checks.
- Food: 3/5 stars. They didn’t check in advance our food options. It turned out we had 3 vegetarians, 2 people who don’t eat red meat and 2 who eat everything. So, an agency didn’t ask it in advance and planned lunches without taking it into account.
- The tour group consisted of 6 people.

A very enjoyable trip covering nearly all of Taiwan, with extremely helpful and informative Ms. Chia. The hotels were better than I expected though food at times was a bit of a problem for me because I'm not used to walking in the street eating my meal, which is what the locals often do.
Our driver Mr Gau, though also very pleasant and helpful, sometimes made me nervous because he tended to get engrossed in conversations and didn't always pay as much attention to traffic conditions as he should.
