Chess.com

Chess.com - WOW it has turned into a powerful scam that you cannot even complain about, they lie about users, they scam players unless they pay and force them into playing wiht a time deficit. They use a very OLD architectrue and flood the web with their propaganda when somone tries to find whats wring with the site- they bury you in google - AI garbage to deflect the truth. This business has ruined the game of chess by selling themselves out to AI and bots then they lie about it. The rating system is a complete bust. FAKE, porrly coded and incredibly frustrating. I won an northern open and earned a master rating - this site has so many bots with incredible speed advantages its a complete frustration. This site is a chess destroyer and needs to have the truth stated. GO TO Li_chess.org there its free and fair. Better coding for time fairness and you wont be at a time disadvantage.

Liked it once and even had paid…

Liked it once and even had paid membership. Doesn’t make sense. Getting cheated, players try to trick you into draw. If you say to them what they are you get blocked for chat abuse but the honk can keep on playing. Customer support is only a bot with inadequate answers. All in all it’s not worth the money. Playing for free is fair and that’s it.

We care deeply about keeping the game fair, and we've dedicated more resources and personnel to detecting cheating than any other organization in the world! We're never complacent about cheating, and we're constantly expanding our detection methods. You can find out more at: www.chess.com/cheating However, forced draws in chess are an important strategic concept and are not cheating. Unexpected draws can often arise due to threefold repetition or stalemates. To read more about these unique rules of chess, please visit: www.chess.com/terms/draw-chess Chat restrictions may be imposed if profanity is used or if you accuse opponents of cheating: www.chess.com/legal/community The reason for this is to prevent false accusations, since very often honest players are accused. Instead of writing a message to your opponent, simply report your suspicion by clicking on the opponent's username or avatar. While the vast majority of cheating is detected without even a single player report, your reports still help us to pinpoint certain cases. At the same time, out of fairness for all players we would only close an account if we're certain cheating has occurred. For more help, visit: www.chess.com/support

Don't even join this one!

Don't even join this one!! this has no real person support and their AI does not even understand what we want and it is a horrible hassle to even deal if there is any questions you have!! USELESS to even consider joining. They will charge you even after you cancel, and since there is no live representative, their AI will send you messages back which will have no connection to what you want - you will then be forced to call the credit card company and dispute and move on. Don't get anywhere close to these folks!

lichess is better

I love chess but I don't love chess.com. ads are constantly on the side of your screen and you only get like 4 puzzles and one puzzle rush and the study doesn't work verry well and what is the point of getting a membership when you can get all this stuff for free on lichess and lichess has less cheaters so use lichess!!!!!!

Reply from Chess.com2026-07-20

We know ads aren't ideal, but they are what allow us to keep the game free, to innovate, and to create major chess events. You can always remove ads by signing up for any of our Premium plans, and we also offer a No Ads Plan where you can remove all ads for a very low fee! To sign up, visit: https://www.chess.com/no-ads

They will steal your money

They are frauds and scammers Why can't I give this scam site 0 stars? Chess.com decided to close my premium account out of nowhere, completely randomly. I have obviously never cheated. I have NEVER broken any of their terms of service in any way and yet one day my account was suspended. I reiterate... my PREMIUM account. When I message their garbage customer service, first I have to deal with a awful AI "chessica" which is a useless bot and a complete waste of time. After a long while "talking" to the bot I finally get in touch with one of their supporters who is no help at all and one of them is incredibly condescending. I get NO refunds but that's not the biggest problem I have. They closed my account which had thousands of games in my history. I have spent literal months non-stop on that account (added up) and now it's permanently gone with no explaination. The only feedback I get is that I broke some TOS or whatever but I have no idea which rule I broke because I am never given any information or details. I hope this company crashes and burns to the ground and I hope that anyone who reads this will never give the company a dime, let alone create an account there. Support lichess.org instead, they may be good but they are at least not frauds and scammers.

Non-authorisation payment

I am extremely disappointed with my experience. My Chess.com subscription was renewed automatically without my authorisation. As soon as I noticed the charge, I contacted customer support by both email and live chat to request assistance and a refund. Unfortunately, I have received no meaningful response. It is very frustrating when a company takes payment and then provides no timely customer service to resolve the issue. Customers deserve clear communication and prompt support, especially regarding billing disputes. If this matter is not resolved promptly, I will have no option but to escalate my complaint to the relevant consumer protection and payment authorities, and pursue the matter through my card issuer if necessary. I sincerely hope Chess.com will respond and resolve this issue fairly, but based on my experience so far, I cannot recommend their customer service.

Reply from Chess.com2026-07-09

Sorry for the difficulties! We completely understand if you prefer not to renew your Premium membership, and we will assist you with a refund as soon as possible. Chess.com has proven to be a big…

Chess.com has proven to be a big disappointment to me. I play against numerous ratings cheats and report them and then a month or more later they send ne a message confirming my statement and give me some points back. Why aren't they banning these cheats, there are thousands of them. Are they afraid of not claiming that we have X amount of players playing right now! Also I get tired of playing black 66%of the time.

Reply from Chess.com2026-07-10

As new methods to cheat are developed, so too do we expand our detection methods! We're able to very quickly detect cheating in the vast majority of cases, regardless of the method to cheat that has been used. For a glimpse into our efforts, visit: www.chess.com/article/view/chesscom-update-june-2026#FairPlay In terms of getting white and black in games, color is selected randomly. However, canceling games frequently with one color will result in the system pairing you with that color more often. You can choose your color in unranked games, games versus Friends, or in games versus the Bots. For more help, please visit: www.chess.com/support

The site is full of moronic childish idiotic people who play like guns ho to start with and when they realise they've been beaten take their ball in and say "I'm not playing anymore" and either abandon the game or worse still timeout as in their cretinous head they haven't lost the game they timed out! News for you....you DID lose. Just do the decent and right thing and resign!

Scammers stealing money

Scammers stealing money. I got a subscription for a year and the terms and conditions changed. I rejected them on login and got the notice that I couldn't continue and the only option was to close my account. As I didn;t use the service any more, I closed the account. Now I found out they charged me again for a full year. If I want to login I get the same message: I cannot continue to the website before I accept the new terms and conditions; or I should close my account; which I already did. Now I accept the terms and condtions only to be able to login and get support, which is a chat bot that doesn't do anything. Canceling my account is not an option, closing the account gives the error that it cannot be closed at the moment and that I should contact support (account partially removed since last deletion perhaps?). The support is a useless chat bot without any support or reply, not even a real chat input option is avaialable. They will probably try to take money again from my cc, so I filed a charge back + block request. But everyone should be aware of this scam. If you read this: give me my money back you thiefs!

They keep destroying features and UX.

They keep destroying features and UX. Now they've changed how reviewing games work, so instead of showing moves you could have done WHICH IS HOW YOU LEARN... it just shows the move you did and explain why the move you did is the move you did and what it does. Not alternate moves. Not what you COULD have done if it's a bad move. Just "that was a dumb move" and showing why it's a dumb move, making you learn absolutely nothing about what you should have done. This, in addition to the stupid decision to move alternate game modes (King of the Hill etc) to its own submenu and remove it from the regular tournament menu, effectively COMPLETELY KILLING OFF ALL ALTERNATE MODE ACTIVITY because the new system is confusing, unusable, buggy and utter and complete crap, shows that whoever is behind chess.com decisions currently doesn't actually play chess themselves and makes changes for the sake of making changes, be it horrible, or not. Which is has been. Only horrible, in ever single decision lately. Screw you, Chess.com. I want my money back.

Reply from Chess.com2026-07-06

Thank you for this feedback. In Game Review it's still possible to display move variations to explain why a certain move was a mistake, and which moves were best. You can also make alternative moves while in Analysis mode. Please check out this quick article for the steps to do so: https://support.chess.com/en/articles/8584089-how-does-game-review-work To make Variants easier to find, we're keeping them all in one place! We have some big ideas for the future on how to promote variants so that even more players can enjoy them. If you have suggestions, please let us know. We value your input! Lastly, if you need help with a refund, please submit a request to our Support Team at: www.chess.com/support We're here to help!

Good for people who want a fun chess learning experience!

I love the site. It's clean, has a good interface, and easy to navigate. It has a massive 250 million+ community, good moderation and a great starting place if you want to learn to play chess. However, some of it's great features are only exclusively available to people who pay a membership fee, which isn't actually that bad, up to only $10 a month. So overall it's a clean site that gave me a good chess experience, and honestly totally worth it. I'd like to also recommend Lichess.org , which is completely free, but chess.com definitely gave me some more positive memories. Brilliant!!

Reply from Chess.com2026-07-01

Thank you for this detailed feedback. We appreciate your support for Chess.com! We also want you to know that we're looking into potential new membership offerings as well as more discounts and sales for the future, so that even more players can enjoy all the chess training tools we have to offer.

The matchmaking system on this site…

The matchmaking system on this site gets very frustrating once you reach a certain ELO level. Every time I get close to my peak rating, I am paired with brand new accounts that play with suspicious accuracy. It feels like the cheat detection team is not handling these sandbagging profiles effectively.

Too many cheats.

This app has become a farce too many cheats, the only thing worth doing now are the puzzles. I am a reasonable player and can't remember the last time I won even against what should be vastly inferior players. If you like chess puzzles then you can use this app but don't use it to play games.

Terrible experience all around

Terrible experience all around. So.many of the games are cheaters, so much so that they have to give you points back on a regular basis. But even more frustrating is how terrible their servers are for free players. Constant lag allows paid players an edge. How do I know? I played as a paying subscriber for years until I realized how many bots and cheaters are on the platform. Just play at a club or a somewhere else.

Reply from Chess.com2026-06-22

Thank you for this feedback. Whether someone uses a second device, a second window, a browser extension, or any other means to cheat, we can detect it and we immediately close the account! We're constantly researching and expanding our detection methods to keep the game as far as possible. We're also looking into more ways that we could address the after-effect for the opponents of cheaters, beyond rating adjustments. This matters to us! In terms of latency or disconnection in games, we also want you to know that we have major server expansions underway to help ensure stable connectivity for all our players around the world. It's a scam

It's a scam. Levy is used to cover up what's really going on with his absolute rubbish reviews. Did you see the 500 ELO Bull crap he posted the other day (that was strategic to cover up what's really happening) Why do you all think you can't advance anymore? They can't 100percent prove a person is cheating. Think about why they settled with Hans outside of court and he still plays?. They would of got used, plus there systems would have been scrutinised. Watch the Netflix doco again. Also, if your in the club already, you can have any accuracy and will be ok. Think about it.... Wake up people. You ever wondered why you have 80-90 accuracy every game but are on 1100 ELO? Yet the 2500 plus players/ streamers get late 70 early 80 accuracy ALOT. Oh, also, try analysing your games with another method/ COMPUTER/ LICHESS and you'll see that even the accuracies are incorrect. Cough cough. Don't listen to the crappy responses/ 1percent cheaters crap. IT.IS.A.SCAM.THAT.MAKES.TOO.MUCH.MONEY.FROM.YOU. Also, have a look.at some of Levy (Gotham chess) games on YouTube, and read the user IDs and do some research.... I'll leave it at that. (There's so much more). THIS IS THE TRUTH! There's too much money involved. Don't be a money pawn. Peace.
