It is the worst website ever

It is the worst website ever! It is disgraceful what Chess.com does with its engines and bots. Don't subscribe, they won't help you improve. You'll get stuck playing with computers, not humans.

We have tens of millions of active players, so you're playing chess with real people around the world! Game pairings are not manipulated, nor are there bot accounts in use by Chess.com. If you suspect an opponent of cheating, you can tap their avatar to report it. We immediately ban any player found to be cheating! www.chess.com/cheating

Account closed for???

I had an account I haven't really played on for around 2-3 years. It is 800-900 elo. In those 2-3 years I played a lot in my local chess club and at tournaments, but didn't really engage with online chess for that entire period. In that time period my skill has increased quite a lot. (Real life elo 1800ish) Then I return to my low elo account and start playing. I was on quite a large winning-spree because it has such a low elo. The games cheat detection doesn't account for how long timeperiod there is between games. They look at my last games years ago, see that it's not that skilled, then at these newer games where my skill is increased, and flag my account. There is no human looking it over, seeing that there is almost a 3 year gap in those games. They just see me playing at 800 elo and the next game at 2000........ THEY DON'T SEE THE 3 YEARS IN BETWEEN, WHERE I DIDN'T USE THE ACCOUNT!?

I'm now just under 900 ELO and my highest is 975. My average acc is about 70-74%, if I play 1 good game which is at most 84% I get paird with brand new sandbagging accounts. Why would Chess.com do this to someone who is trying hard to improve, im not going to get better playing players considerably better than myself. After playing these players it tilts me. This also happens soon as you get to your peak rating, its happened 4 times now. Im not the best at Chess because of a poor memory, but im not stupid. Don't get me started on our friends in Kolkuta, its beyond a joke. Ive had 1 rating refund in the last 1000 matches. WHY would I buy a years membership is beyond me.

Reply from Chess.com2026-06-16

Thank you for this feedback, and we're sorry for the frustration with pairings vs. new accounts. As your Chess.com account becomes more established and you play more games, you'll pair with opponents who also have well-established accounts. The purpose of this is to let newer players' ratings balance out through matchups against a mix of other new players, as well as against veteran accounts. That said, we're looking into potential updates in this regard, including a settings option to limit game matchups based on the account age of the opponent. If you'd like to discuss more or to submit a suggestion, please visit: www.chess.com/support

WAS fun for about 7 months to the past month, then all of a sudden it went bad,

Note: "I changed the review to 1 star. Forget this! I played about 20 games with Maria-Bot. Very difficult and I couldn't win one. Definitely the engine is cranked up. The Bot HAS to be a higher rating than 1000 now. Very weird, frustrating and not fun anymore.. I think Chess.com wants me to join up and pay for reviews, lessons, etc, but I'm not gonna play their game. Kinds sucks 'cause it used to be fun, now it's very frustrating. So I am done with Chess.Com." Original review below. OK learning how to play chess again about 50+ years. I progressed from beginner to low intermediate and feeling good abut myself. I was playing Maria-Bot and running about 50-50 win-loss ratio. Then I improved and was winning about 80 percent. Then one day the bot was beating me badly in about 20 or so moves. I noticed it didn't make any mistakes or weak moves. Pretty obvious that Maria-Bot was cranked up in difficulty much higher than low intermediate. It wasn't supposed to be adaptive This demoralized me since now I could win maybe 1 out of 10. Perhaps the bot was programmed to turn up the difficulty to play some sort of psychological mind game with me so I would sign up for lessons or something to that effect. I have no idea but pretty much all the fun went out of it. I could see maybe a couple of very hard games but not every stinking one. So I gave it a 2 out of 5 because I least I learned how to play again.

Reply from Chess.com2026-06-15

Thank you for this feedback, and we're sorry for the frustration! Bot difficulty ratings are an estimate, and each Bot has its own playing style. For example, some Bots like to attack, some develop the queen early, etc. However, we're reviewing this system and making optimizations to ensure Bot playing levels meet expectations!

I spent money on a site where insults are rampant

I spent a fair amount of money as a diamond member. I have since cancelled my membership. I have received insults (of a misogynistic flavor), I have been told that I could not possibly have finished high school.. . And yet those individuals are never muted. Yesterday I was challenged to a ridiculous game (3 days per move), I did not know until it had actually started. I also did not know that one can abort the game before the 4th move without losing points. My advice is not to accept challenges from strangers (only friends). The individual took more than 11 hours to make the 3rd move, so I kindly asked him/her to accept a draw and request a faster game. The individual ignored me. The strategy being that he/she wanted me to abort the game out of frustration, ultimately handing points to him/her. I sent a complaint to chess.com. No response. Please beware of unsolicited challenges, the multiple day game option, the ability to abort a game before the 4th move, and the tendancy of players to insult. I also suggest sticking to a free membership until and unless you are sure it is a suitable environment for you. I personally prefer lichess.org.

Thank you for this feedback. We're sorry for the confusion regarding Daily Chess! This is a much longer format where games can take weeks or even months. The game information should display when accepting the challenge or starting the game, and you can cancel a game at the start if you decide not to play. Abusive messaging is not tolerated on Chess.com, and we ask that you report such players by clicking their username. In addition to automated measures, our moderators will take action to promptly restrict or remove any accounts that are breaching our community policies: www.chess.com/legal/community

I just got forced a draw by repetition even though i was up time and up pieces.. HATE THIS GAME

Reply from Chess.com2026-06-15

A draw by repetition is a special rule in chess where a draw occurs when both players repeat the same exact position 3 times (with the same player to move). You can read more about that rule here: www.chess.com/terms/threefold-repetition-chess This can be frustrating when you had a winning position otherwise, and many players--even very high-rated ones--have experience this, especially when it comes to Blitz and Bullet chess. By ensuring that your king can escape and will not be subject to repeated checks, you can avoid draws by repetition.

Site filled with selective Hybrid cheaters without resolution

Every time I start winning a game, the other player makes suspicious critical moves and flips the game into their own victory or checkmate. The first few months I looked internally at me, but over time the evidence is clear, and it’s obvious, this site is filled with so many hybrid cheaters that selectively cheat in critical positions or when they’re losing and upset about it. I’m hundreds below my rating and I’m not even upset about it, it’s just disgusting. Leaving my two accounts and lessons of 3 years because it’s so demoralizing. I despise that chess.com can’t use AI somehow by now to ban hybrid selective cheating immediately instead of a lazy sneaky hidden “fair policy” team that isn’t transparent or consistent. Do better

Reply from Chess.com2026-06-15

Combatting cheating is something we're never complacent about, and we're constantly researching and implementing new detection methods to stay on the cutting edge of fair play. We're able to detect cheating even if a player only cheats in part of a game or in its latter half. Keeping the game as fair as possible is extremely important to us! Paid account disappeared without explanation

I had a paid yearly Diamond membership on Chess.com, and after contacting support about creating a fresh account and transferring my membership/account-related data, my account suddenly disappeared without any clear explanation. It does not appear to be closed or banned — it simply looks like it no longer exists. When I tried logging in with my email, I was asked to create a brand-new account. This is extremely concerning because I lost access to a paid service I purchased, along with personal account data, blogs, friends list, profile history, and other content that had value to me. I waited around 4–5 days for a response from support before this happened, and after contacting support again from a new account, I still have not received a meaningful answer after two days. This situation has caused serious stress and has negatively affected my mental health. It also makes me question the safety and reliability of the Chess.com platform. If a paid user’s account and data can disappear without warning, explanation, restoration, refund, or timely support response, that is a major trust issue. From a customer perspective, this feels unfair and potentially deceptive, because I paid for a service and then lost access to both the service and my account data without explanation. Until Chess.com resolves this properly, I cannot recommend trusting the platform with paid memberships or important account content.

Cheaterscom

I think its a good website if u want to learn more about chess but when it comes to pvp there are just far too many noobs that just sit there in godmode. What i mean is they use two phones, they use one to mirror your moves against ai and then do the perfect moves back so there is no way you can win, they will disguise a couple of moves to make it look legit but i can always tell the difference between a computer and a human. Computer gets me mad because its teef and a human will normally lose against me unless he is really really good at chess. Now its getting out of hand, i played like ten cheaters in a row. Chesscom need to do more about this situation or employ ppl to be an admin to play against people and manually ban cheaters. Also i see the noobs crying in the comments about their son got banned fir cheating. Good keep banning these guys because they get me mad when i play them. Serves your son right for cheating cry baby in the comments

Reply from Chess.com2026-06-15

Thank you for this feedback. Whether someone uses a second device, a second window, a browser extension, or any other means to cheat, we can detect it and we immediately close the account! We're constantly researching and expanding our detection methods to keep the game as far as possible. We're also looking into more ways that we could address the after-effect for the opponents of cheaters, beyond rating adjustments. This matters to us!

Matchmaking is pure gamble

I hate this game it absolutly sucks you get people who are alomst double as high as you are elo wise and the gane expects you to win. Had fun in the beginning jut since im over 1200/1300 elo almost everybody has an estimated 2000 rating what am i playing against how am i supposed to win ?? Chess.com has one of the worst matchmaking ive ever seen

Premium member unfairly restricted from…

Premium member unfairly restricted from tournaments I am very disappointed and frustrated with my experience. I pay for a Premium membership because I genuinely enjoy playing chess, especially tournaments. However, my account was suddenly restricted from joining tournaments due to an alleged “Sportsmanship Violation,” and I do not understand why. I did not intentionally disconnect, I did not abuse the abort feature, and I was simply playing normally. My internet connection can sometimes be unstable because it is not connected by cable. If there was any disconnection, delay, or connection issue during a game, it was not intentional and should not be treated as bad sportsmanship. I lost some games, but losing should not be treated as bad sportsmanship. I always try to play fairly and respectfully. What feels especially unfair is that many players on the platform behave dishonestly or break the rules, yet honest players like me are being restricted without a clear explanation or proper review. I understand that rules are necessary, but honest Premium members should not be automatically restricted without someone properly checking the situation. The automated response says the restriction will go away after playing regular games, but I mainly play tournaments. That does not feel like a fair solution, especially for a Premium member who pays to enjoy the platform. I would like my account to be reviewed by a real human support agent. Premium members should receive clear explanations and fair support, not just automatic restrictions without proper review. Please review my account manually and explain exactly why this restriction was applied.

Reply from Chess.com2026-06-15

Thank you for this detailed feedback. This type of tournament restriction can occur due to recent rating loss or disconnections in games. We'll work to add more explanatory overlays or notifications to help players in this situation! For help resolving this in the meantime, please contact our Support Team at: www.chess.com/support

My account has issues sending friend…

My account has issues sending friend requests, and it has a bad ranking system. My game loads slow as im trying to play. It has bad cheaters and doesn't detect them for a long period of days, they cheated in my games 20-25 times. In my other account, the title "play a friend" doesn't work, as I click on it to send a game to my friend. It disappears and I can't see my friend list. I never recommend this app.

Reply from Chess.com2026-06-02

Thank you for this feedback. So that your account may send friend requests and chat messages, please ensure to activate your account if you have not already done so: https://support.chess.com/en/articles/9834467-how-can-i-activate-my-account It should be possible to challenge a friend by entering their username in the menu: Play > Play a Friend. You can view your friends list and invite friends by tapping on the icon at the top right of the app's homescreen. In terms of cheating, we use advanced methods to prevent cheating whenever possible, and to immediately ban players who use help in games. Some losses could come due to an opponent cheating, but the good news is that our statistics show cheating actually occurs in less than 1% of games. Giving each opponent the benefit of the doubt can help you keep a strong mindset, play at your best, and get back to a winning streak!

Chess.com needs a new system for pairing up players.

As I play chess.com I get paired up with people who are the same ELO as me but in elite divisions which means that they are at a higher skill level so I think that chess.com should put you with yiur rank, so if yiur a silver rank then you get paired up with a silver ranked player, which I’m getting paired up with elite leveled players and it isn’t fair

Reply from Chess.com2026-06-02

Thank you for this feedback. Leagues are more of an indicator of how often you play chess, rather than one's skill level. On the Leagues main page, you can find more details on how the Leagues system works: www.chess.com/leagues In general, match-ups are based on rating level, which is the most accurate measure of your skill in the game. You can filter games by opponent rating using the menu: Play > More > Custom game. They banned my 12 year old son after…

They banned my 12 year old son after about 3 months and did not issue any refund while we paid for one year. Not sure what he did wrong, but he is a young child. If he did something wrong, you should issue a warning with an explanation first and if you ban him, you should issue a refund for unused 9 months. A minor child can't break any contract terms because contacts with children are not valid to begin with. Update 1: Hello, I followed your link to the main chess page. I clicked on your support page. An AI handles your support page, but it is pretty much useless. It could not locate the account based on the username and would not provide an email address to live support, and just closed my inquiry without providing any meaningful information. The child's username is maximis98. He does not remember the email that he used. He believes that he did not use any email. Please reactivate his account or issue us a refund for the unused 9-10 months of the membership. We purchased a one-year membership, but you deactivated his account after about 2-3 months of use. Update 2: His username was maximis998. When I asked for a pro-rated refund, I received a message that Membership purchases for accounts closed for violating the terms of service cannot be refunded. Please take note that a minor can't violate any terms because any agreement with a minor can't be valid. A minor lacks the capacity to enter into an agreement.

Update: We're sorry for the trouble, but there does not seem to be any Chess.com account with the username "maximis98". Please submit a refund request as detailed above, and our Billing team will assist you as soon as possible.
