Don't care about their users

Don't care about their users. don't ban cheaters that i have reported and having to pay 10£ a month for a game review when i can do it for free. this site has nothing going for it apart from the ui i guess? and likes to spam emails to make me feel bad like what?

Reply from Chess.com2026-04-27

We're sorry to hear this, and we want you to know that stopping cheating is one of our absolute highest priorities on Chess.com! While the vast majority of cheating is detected without even a single player report, your reports still help us to pinpoint certain cases. At the same time, out of fairness for all players we would only close an account if we're certain cheating has occurred. Some losses could come due to an opponent cheating, but the good news is that our statistics show cheating actually occurs in less than 1% of games. Giving each opponent the benefit of the doubt can help you keep a strong mindset, play at your best, and get back to a winning streak! If you're receiving more Chess.com emails than you'd prefer, you can update your notification settings to receive only the ones you want! Here is a quick link: https://www.chess.com/settings/notifications If there's anything else we can help you with, please visit: www.chess.com/support

I got banned for just talking

I got banned for just talking? As if I don’t have the authority to message people, “lol gg”? I literally didn’t go against the community guidelines. This is bs. Chess.com knows this, but chooses to not do shit different. The racism, sexism, ableism, etc. all are not even dealt with. They will probably respond with: On Chess.com we want to encourage a respectful community, and we have policies for the chat: [link] Please contact us for help resolving any account restrictions: [another useless link]

Been playing for 3 years to learning to…

Been playing for 3 years to learning to play chess and I finally broke 1000 elo and insta ban for cheating. Like is it illegal to break 1000 elo. I been 900 for a year. So they anti cheat is so broken. Does not ban actual cheaters, but bans legit. Don't use ever. They claim they look and review, nope all AI. They PR is copy and pasted responses. Ads are crazy why do I have to hit x 3 times to remove the ad. Support is AI, appeals AI. I played many of cheaters who I have proven to have cheated nothing. OH you finally broke 1000 elo after 3 year, nope banned. I going to lichess at least they anti cheat is not broken. Lastly Chess.com got my org review removed. So -1 to trustpilot Chess.com tell me you did not read my review without telling me. AI copy and paste.

Do not sign up for a trial membership

I signed up for a free trial which I've been trying to cancel the trial for days. When I went to manage membership in the app it said my subscription is managed through Chess.com, when I logged into the browser it said I didn't have any membership or trial active. I tried contacting their support multiple times which is just an ineffective bot. Seems like this is a long standing issue people have.

Reply from Chess.com2026-04-21

Sorry for the difficulties! If your membership is not displaying when signing in on Chess.com, it may be that you have multiple Chess.com accounts. Please ensure that that username corresponding to your Premium account is entered when signing in. If needed, you can reset your password using the "Forgot password" option on the login page: www.chess.com/login For more help, please submit a request to our Support Team at: www.chess.com/support In the Support chat, click on "Start Conversation" then "Get more help". Chess.com has a problem with hackers and its too expensive

Chess.com has a problem with hackers. Its so annoying. But the main problem is that game analysis subscriptions are WAY to expensive. I had to search everywhere for alternatives.

Reply from Chess.com2026-04-20

Stopping cheating is one of our absolute highest priorities at Chess.com. We analyze hundreds of millions of games each month using state-of-the-art detection methods, and any account found to be cheating is immediately closed: www.chess.com/article/view/chesscom-update-april-2026#FairPlay We understand it's an investment, but Game Review is one of the absolute best tools to quickly improve your chess skills, since it offers personalized feedback on your games and the possibility to correct mistakes. If you'd like to try out unlimited Game Review, we offer a free trial!

Charged During Trial, No Access to Account

I created an account using a temporary email. I tried their premium service but canceled it after two days—still within the trial period—so I wouldn’t be charged. However, last Friday I discovered that my card had been charged. I no longer have access to that account because I used a temporary email, so I can’t request a refund through it. I created a new account and submitted a refund request. There’s still some hope.

Reply from Chess.com2026-04-20

We're sorry for the difficulties! If you canceled your Premium membership prior to the end of the free trial, you should not have been billed. So that we may investigate this and issue a full refund, please submit a request to our Billing Team in the Support chat: www.chess.com/support In the chat, click on "Start Conversation", then click on "Get more help" and search: "Refund". After the AI's response, provide the requested information and confirm submission of your request. We'll get back to you as soon as possible!

Impossible to enjoy playing

To enjoy playing on this website it's impossible. At least 50% of players in in bullet, blitz and rapid games are cheaters. They do NOTHING to tackle this issue. They don't have human resource to detect cheaters, only a stupid algorithm which can't detect even the easiest cases, where an user admits in his comments to be cheating. The main issue is not cheating itself, but that correct player have the feeling they can do NOTHING against it. They may even be mocked by cheaters and there is not a customer care to complain.

Reply from Chess.com2026-04-20

Fairness in the game is extremely important to us. That's why we've invested immense resources into cheat detection and why we maintain a dedicated Fair Play Team compromised of researchers and analysts. You can find out more about this here: www.chess.com/cheating At times, it can feel like cheating is overwhelming prevalent in games. However, the good news is that our statistics show cheating actually occurs in less than 1% of all games. Giving each opponent the benefit of the doubt can help you keep a strong mindset and play at your best!

terrible design, incessantly pushing subs on players and rife with cheaters

Incredibly annoying site design, I would actually rate it worse than Tinder in how they constantly try to lure the player into paying for a subscription. You will get a msg that goes something like "Are you ready for a lesson today?" and when you click on it, you will be prompted to buy a subscription, same with puzzles and most everything on this site is some kind of entrapment in this fashion. Also when playing on mobile it uses a terrible amount of battery, and the "resign button" is put to the bottom of the page and is very hard to click, often leading to the minimization of the page, something which causes you to auto-resign due to having "abandoned" the game. Lichess will just send you straight back to any game in progress, but not chess.com, they will instead make it neigh impossible to find back to your game and when you finally do it is already lost due to being "abandoned". The site comes with very limit functionality, and an incredibly annoying analysis mode - everything they can do to limit and make the site as annoying as possible has been done in order to push the subscription on players. Every day I have gotten an automated mail about "a cheater was detected, here have som ELO back as a compensation", the site is literally crawling with cheaters, something which is a shame because playing in the league is actually fun. I'm going back to lichess where you get all the tips, tricks and analysis for free, and seldom if ever encounter any cheaters.

Reply from Chess.com2026-04-20

Thank you for this detailed feedback, and we're sorry for the negative experience you've had on Chess.com. Practice notifications should not display if you don't have a free Lesson or Puzzle available for the day. We'll look into this! Game abandonment can occur if the app is minimized or if a disconnection occurs during a game in progress. The idea is to prevent players from waiting whenever one player has left the game: https://support.chess.com/article/338-how-does-game-abandonment-work However, we'll keep working on optimizations, since it should still be possible to reconnect to your game within 10% of the initial game duration. Cheating in chess is a major concern for any online chess platform. The good news is that on Chess.com, we have the most advanced detection methods in the world! Part of our anti-cheating system involves rating adjustments to ensure opponents of cheaters are not unfairly affected. However, we know that this doesn't fully make up for the experience of facing a cheater, and with that in mind we're doing more than ever in terms of research and innovation in expanding our detection to ensure that cheaters are caught and banned as quickly as possible. In many cases, we can stop them within a single game and prevent any cheating in the first place. We want you to have the best experience possible on Chess.com, and we would be glad to discuss these concerns more with you. Please feel free to submit feedback or to get in touch with our Support Team at: www.chess.com/support

Chess.com is like refined food

Chess is good, chess.com is not! Chess.com is like refined food, you are using it and getting ''sicker'' and ''fatter'' (not so well). The most of these tournament winner are low ranked players, 700- 1200 rated players play/win better than 1600- 1800 rated...? Pure cheating and/or AI crap? The whole set up is very "busy" and sometimes confusing. At the end of the day it is about (not so) pretty penny! Can not be improved, it is about profit! I believe there are not perfect but a better places to "feed" and enjoy! Good bye chess.com P.S. Your AI response will prove how lousy your site is, not even human read or observes critics and try to understand and correct mistakes and wrong doing...

Thank you for this feedback. New players may need a few games to have their rating adjusted to the right level. However, if you feel someone is purposefully misrepresenting their rating, you can tap on their avatar and report it. We have both automated systems and devoted analysts that work to remove these accounts. We offer Premium subscriptions, but with a free account you'll still have limited access to Puzzles, Lessons, and Game Review, and playing chess on Chess.com will always be free. There is a also a free trial if you'd like to test out unlimited training features!

disappointment

It’s a good site, though a bit of a catch-all, with too many options and tools scattered here and there. However, I question their cheat detection system. It must be effective, but it’s so effective that, in rare cases, innocent players get banned. Obviously, that’s my situation. I tried to get an explanation backed by evidence. But they didn’t give me one. If only I were playing like a GM and not being myself—but that’s not the case. I just wanted to know their reasoning because, I must say, it’s puzzling to me. I think I was banned because I’m unknown and don’t participate in real tournaments. It’s a shame, which is why I gave it an average rating.

Toxic community and bad support

Pretty terrible community with extremely toxic people in the chat nearly every other game. I had just signed up for a premium membership and requested a refund. Took nearly 1 month to get in touch with an actual support person because their entire website is AI chat bots and then another month to get refunded my money. There are plenty of better free options out there.

In addition to automated measures, our moderators will take action to promptly restrict or remove any accounts that are breaching our community policies: www.chess.com/legal/community We're also very sorry that it took longer than expected for you to be able to get in touch with our Support Team. It should be possible to submit a refund request by simply searching "Refund" in the Support Chat: www.chess.com/support We'll review this with our team, since we want it to be as easy as possible for players to get in touch for such important requests.

Incredible design flaws in this…

Incredible design flaws in this website. I have never come across a platform that has it's audio settings so distantly removed - that additionally crash the game you're playing when accessed. And when you rejoin chess.com the game you were playing doesn't appear. This sums it up but there are plenty of other bewildering features like the (sometimes) lack of a cancel button when searching for games; and an almost black scroll bar on a black background.

Chess.com won’t send the confirmation mail to change my email and ignores me

The problem is simple: I do not receive the confirmation email needed to change my account email address. When I try to contact Chess.com support, they auto‑reply that they “won’t answer this email” and push me into a chat bot that cannot understand what I’m saying. I have told them a million goddamn times that I do not get the confirmation mail, and they still do nothing. The bot just loops generic nonsense, there is no human escalation, and there is literally no working way to fix this. Chess.com has built a system where you cannot receive the email required to change your email, and then refuses to talk to you anywhere else. This is not customer support; it’s a scam‑level account trap.
