Ethos TruStage recent data breach
Ethos TruStage had a recent data breach. This caused them to not draw premiums for July. On August 3, they drew the premium for July and then again drew a premium in the middle of the month; however, the premium was half again as much. When I called, they said that it was due to my recent birthday putting me into a different premium bracket - fine. But when I said that I never received a notice of the increase, he said that the notice was in the original policy documents and they do not send out notifications of these changes. When I pushed back on that, he said that the lack of notice was due to the recent "outage" (what they are calling the data breach). He then wanted to sell me Whole Life but couldn't quote me a premium - again due to the "outage". When I said that I just wanted to cancel, he said fine the policy is immediately inactive but they wouldn't be returning my most recent premium that was drawn yesterday and covered from 8/17 - 9/17. So then I said, fine, let's cancel before the next renewal date. Well, they can't do that either. I need to call back closer to the renewal date in order to cancel. The outage also changed my premium payment date - again with no notice. I wonder how well my husband would have been able to work with this company to receive his $$ in the event of my death? I suspect it would not have gone well.
