NordVPN said try FlashRouters… so I did. They were right
I asked NordVPN what router would cover my whole house and work with devices that can’t run VPNs—and they pointed me to FlashRouters. Got the Privacy Hero 2, and wow—it's doing all the heavy lifting. I stream Peacock, Paramount+, and MLB from overseas like I never left. Even my son’s Xbox is on VPN. Setup was a breeze, and support was fantastic.
From the moment I placed my order, I was impressed. The router arrived quickly, was well-packaged, and installation was a breeze. The internet speed is lightning-fast, and I haven't experienced a single drop in connection. Plus, their customer support team is super friendly and helpful.
BEWARE! This site is a scam, along with ALL the products sold from here.
Don't let them rip you off like they did me. Choose a more reputable site that actually cares about their customers instead of $$$. If I could, I would rate them as a negative "-2" after attempting to buy and use their worthless product along with the lack of support they provided. Two words! Flashrouters.com is a SCAM!

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry to hear you had this experience Damian!
Good reviews are fake, this company has terrible customer support, no phone line only mail which is answered every 2 or 3 days if they want, returning process is a hell they charge u a restocking fee and the shipping cost is on you for their useless privacy hero router..

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry to hear you had this experience Gober!
My tech Alex stayed with me after numerous attempts to connect, to reconnect after my internet dumped him and covered all of the needs I had in one visit. I am forever grateful to him for his help!!!

Thanks for the kind word Th. Glad you were happy with Alex's work and effort.
If it were possible, I'd give negative stars This is not a serious company. Customer support is nonexistent! No one answers the phone. Leave a message and you'll never get a reply by email. Try the on-line chat and you get a virtual attendant requesting that you "open a ticket." Again, no replies. This has gone on for over a week. Fortunately, we are able to get our money back through American Express. Save yourself the hassle and take your business elsewhere.

Thanks for the feedback Francis and we are sorry to hear you feel this way.
We are a US based team on east coast hours so our chat is on 10-6 EST. We do not offer phone support as we have tested it in the past but have found it much more fruitful for the customers and us to provide remote setup support so our agents can see your system which is included in our 3 free months that come with any purchase.
We also offer a 30 Day Satisfaction Guarantee to make sure the device is working how you wish.
Company denied warranty documented in receipt and their previous commitment to refund when the issue was documented.
They issued me a refund via PayPal and withdrew it when I pointed out that it was not the full refund amount for the router. They tried to deduct an additional amount from the refund for a service that was included free with the purchase.
When I disputed this refund amount to FlashRouters they reversed the PayPal refund without explanation and now have the router (which I paid return shipping for at their request) and refuse any refund.
Router consistently failed.
Update, PayPal intervened providing the full refund. I never received any support or response from Flashrouters.

Sorry to hear about your experience Shannon. I will review it with our support team ASAP.
I had a question about streaming relocation with my router. I provided info ahead of time and they quickly responded with some recommendations. I was able to resolve my question. Simple, easy, straightforward
My $150 + router does not even function as a paperweight, is in it’s original box in my closet
Know well, that this review was written after exhausting ALL attempts to receive help from this company. I was done pulling my hair out.
Previously written review:
This purchase has been from beginning to end, one of the worst purchasing experiences I’ve had and I don’t want to waste much more time on this .
First: I had to ask twice for a router selection because the first offering did not fit the criteria I asked for.
The responsiveness of emails was very good!
Re: flashrouter Ready to go?
I specifically paid for my router to be set up, ready to go, out of the box. Next thing I know I receive the router and a notice this router needs to be manually set up or configured or whatever terminology they use. I don’t speak much tech language.
I have an iPad ninth generation and I was told this set up appointment cannot be done on an iPad! How can it possibly be that we pay so much money for a product and hands-on help, via video, cannot be done?
Re: Chat
The next option is to do the set up via chat. I was in the process of putting the information I observed on the screen into the chat, which happened several times, to best communicate “where I was” and what help I thought I needed. Like I said, I’m a novice.
The person exited the chat shortly after, leaving me hanging, baffled, and waiting for answers.
In emails I stated I needed more help. The return emails directed to video after video after video.
I may be slow, however, given a long enough timeline, a patient teacher, I can learn anything I need to.
I finally asked a friend that was more text savvy, to help me set this router up and he agreed. He traveled 20 miles round-trip to help out. I asked him if he thought this was easy and he basically said this is not as easy as led to believe.
I would’ve appreciated the time and attention to help walk me through the set up process so I was confident the router I purchased, in order to make a Ring doorbell work for a new apartment, after eight months of homelessness, was properly set up, and possibly how to optimize it’s functionality and what else it can do!
This purchase left me baffled and pissed and I don’t like baffled and pissed. Sometimes I need someone to personally guide me at a rate of speed I can understand and learn at, with people that know what they’re doing and WANT to teach. If not, I’m dead in water.
A full refund would be a start to make this right
———————————————————
My $150 + router now has no function at all, not even a paperweight. Not sure how it happened. I know since the initial set up was a nightmare, my router may stay a paperweight unless by some miracle, I can figure out myself how to make it function, since Customer Service doesn’t work for someone like me, that has learning disability and whom needs more time to learn something
Final Update:
Yesterday I donated the router.
After sitting unused in a closet for years, I finally gave up on a product I purchased for more than $150 and could not confidently use because the one-on-one customer support I needed simply wasn’t there.
The irony is that I paid for a router that was supposed to be set up and ready to go. Instead, the experience became so frustrating and unnecessarily complicated that the router ultimately became useless to me.
So today I gave it away.
That’s the final chapter of one of the worst purchasing and customer-service experiences I’ve had.
I’ve already wasted enough time, energy, and frustration on this. I don’t intend to waste another breath on it.

I purchased the service plan when I bought my Asus router over one year ago for peace of mind. It turned out to be a good decision for me.
My internet was down last week and I managed to lose the ability to access my router settings. I contacted FlashRouters for help, but the first solution they proposed did not work. I didn't have a fix within a couple of days, so I accessed the helpful guides on FlashRouters and decided to reset my modem and was able to restore my VPN on this router myself. I replied to an email received from Alex H. after the reset to let him know my VPN was now working, but I had several questions about changes I noticed after the reset.
Alex H. continued to ask questions about my settings to be sure that my setup was correct and that all of my questions were answered to my satisfaction.
I am happy that he persisted to be absolutely sure everything was safe and secure even after I mentioned that everything was working fine as far as I could see. In my opinion, that indicates that FlashRouters really cares about the products they sell and the customers to whom they sell. That means Peace of Mind to me!
Glorified router reseller (avoid and use pfSense instead)
I have two experiences with Flashrouters
First one was back in 2020-2021, I bought a DD-WRT router flashed with their privacy app. It provided a simple setup and all the features you would want from a VPN router. It worked fantastically and I was very happy with it. Then in 2024 the privacy app stopped working and I found out it had been discontinued.
Now in 2024 with the privacy app gone. They had also stopped selling any DD-WRT routers. So I bought something else that they offered (ASUS-WRT). What I got was a standard router like it was bought from any other retailer. Their software finesse is entirely gone and is now a glorified router reseller.
What about the VPN? The instructions for setting up the VPN was just like setting up the VPN on ANY ROUTER, completely removing the need to buy from Flashrouters. It lacks many features you want from an VPN (features that Privacy app had even).
Sad to see it go from a nice company to moneygrab.
Use pfSense instead.
EDIT:
Glad to see you didn't abandon the app-like experience which made you popular to begin with. However I got tired of waiting and just made my own with pfSense.
I had to wait a week for the router to be delivered, only to find out that the wrong adapter was included. So I couldn't power it on and had to find a knock-off adapter (which I did get a refund for to be fair) but when I powered it on I found out that it was an bog standard router locked down in typical fashion (unlike the DD-WRT). Needless to say the experience left a bad taste from which I can't recommend anyone to get one.
If you want to improve then you should clarify what router require what setup. Going from all routers include our privacy to NONE (discontinued) include our privacy app, then to ONE include our privacy app. It's a mess to put it a best.

Thanks for your feedback Adam.
If you are looking for similar app like experience, we recommend our recently launched - https://www.flashrouters.com/privacy-hero-vpn-router
Provide service options for products purchased.
I received a notification "FlashRouters DD-WRT Privacy App is being officially discontinued for sale as of Nov 2023." service is to be discontinued by 12/31/24.
I purchased a LinkSys Router with VPN Express service in the past.
I reached out to the Support Team to find out what my options would be. They were very nice and said there were options and for me to schedule a remote session.
I scheduled a remote session for 11/1, 12 noon and they never showed.
I am concerned because FlashRouters sold me a product and configured for me to use and then they discontinued the privacy app for me to use our router.
I am left with router that is not configured and unable for me to use effectively.
Update: Now after they didn't show. Flashrouter sends me an email that I need to part of a service plan. This very frustrating!!! Why didn't they mention to me days ago?

Thanks for the feedback Michael.
Remote setup assistance requires our Service Plan for one-on-one support session for modifying router settings on your behalf.
I was assisted by Tom M. today and I'm super grateful for this. I've been having router vpn issues for the past 2 weeks. I've tried everything I could until Tom came to the rescue today. The service was excellent, communication was great, and I had confidence things were going to pan out and sure they did. My VPN is up and running on my router thanks to Tom! Awesome person, great service. Thank you again Tom M.!
Issue with Privacy Hero VPN Router Completely Resolved
Have a Privacy Hero VPN router and had an issue where apparently there is a yearly subscription (which was news to me) that expired. I updated the subscription, had to reconfigure my VPN settings on the router and then my system was showing it was unprotected. Started a chat with Tom M. and he was awesome. Tom helped me figure out that the issue appear to be impacting one of my Windows device but not the other or my Apple device. He was persistent is trying to get to the root cause of the issue and even when I insisted that I will be fine with one of the system not working, Tom did not give up and kept eliminating potential issue after issue until he was able to resolve my issue completely. I would have given up long ago, however, due to his diligence and persistence, Tom was able to completely resolve my issue to my satisfaction. He is an asset to the the organization and should be recognized as such.

Thanks for the kind words Andy! Glad Tom could help you out.
I was really happy with my privacy hero router with Nord Vpn that I bought a bit more than a year ago...BUT...even though it is still working good technically speaking..now I'm having to pay a yearly subscription to keep the right to use Vpn...!? It was not what I paid for ..meaning a router delivered to you....they never said anything about subscriptions!!!! And obviously the customer is always screwed and have only 2 choice...cancell.and render the router useless for my main purpose (yeah they leave you with a simple stupid simple WiFi router) or...we'll pay they incredibly disgusting subscription (49$ a year)! Also..they will discontinue their phone app to control the router (whether you're a paying customer or not)...according to them there is no added value in it because you can do all the same in a browser ...what f#*@ bulshit. So to the new customer....what you're contractually buying now...they will probably modify it later on ....and you won't have ANYTHING to say about it. If you can and haven't been stupid enough to buy something from them yet...AVOID and look for a better company!

Sorry to hear about your frustration Kevin.
We have various plans and options but the Privacy Hero is cloud based to offer many enhanced options which requires ongoing maintenance costs for optimal functionality and adding new features.
The $49 also includes a one-year VPN and our streaming unblocking services which alone are usually in the $60-$100 range depending on the provider.
Contact [email protected] and we are happy to work with you on an amenable solution.
I have used Flashrouters for many years and they have never disappointed me. Service is timely, and they have always been very helpful. Recently, I was having issues with the Flashrouter Privacy App with settings not sticking after a reboot. I decided to get a newer router (GL-MT6000 was recommended) and I couldn't be happier. The OpenWrt interface is different, but it did not take long to setup as it is very intuitive. Tom @ Flashrouters helped by sending me information on setting up devices that needed to bypass the VPN connection. I highly recommend spending the extra money (really not much more) as the support is invaluable.
I was without my VPN through my ASUS router for over a week. I chatted with Tom M. And he helped me for over an hour! Even remote viewing my computer to help me when I didn’t know what to look for. Even towards the end when it seemed he was also at a loss he had a last minute idea and it immediately fixed my issue. I was SO SO grateful for his help and for his patience and not just brushing me aside after the first idea didn’t fix anything. I am glad to continue business with this company.
