Alexandria’s mission is to make libraries as important today as they were 40 years ago. Libraries are not “dead” and will never be. Our goal is to give librarians the tools to share and promote their resources. The first version of Alexandria was released in 1990. Alexandria itself has continued to be updated and enhanced for over 20 years, which is pretty amazing in the technology and software industry.

I've been using Alexandria Library Software for eight years in my school library. For the most part, is uncomplicated to learn and use. There are so many applications available from this software! I would like to have more training, though, such as tutorials for different applications.
I have used the Alexandria Program for at least 10 years now. I think it is an excellent program for a reasonable price. It has many features, so many, that I have to call Tech to remember how to use them all. I would recommend it to smaller schools that may have issues with monies available for Technology in Libraries.
If there was one thing I would change, it would be that training for updates would be free.;) Or that it would be a webinar that people could access on their own time.
Alexandria Library Automation Software is user and tech friendly
Compared to other Library software I have used in the past Alexandria is much more user friendly. Their support staff the few times we have needed it are very helpful and knowledgeable.
Alexandria is intuitive, quick, and simple to teach to staff. The generated reports are amazing and very useful for collection evaluation. Customer help/service has always been very responsive.
While the customer service is excellent, the product is not intuitive, is lacking a quality search function and lacking integration with other technologies (Overdrive, databases, etc.). There is a lot of manual inputting.

We really appreciate this feedback, RG. We'll pass it on to our developers so we can improve for you!
This is my 7th year using Alexandria and it has been a smooth experience for our school. The occasional issue/glitch is generally solved very quickly with a call to technical support, who are extremely knowledgeable, patient and competent.
We are using version 6 right now and for the last 6 years and we have always had issues. From using the reports, to printing labels, to getting student information from Power School. The system is not intuitive and I don't care for the cataloging interface when I have to input items manually. I wouldn't recommend it.

Most of the time, Alexandria is ok. Sometimes I think there is a lot of clicking here, then there to get the information needed. It's hard to see who had a book out last when it was already checked in, and then I found some damage, and want to see who had it last. the list shows from the first checkout, and I can't see who was last.

This feedback means the world to us, Kathy! We'll send it straight to our developers so we can continue to improve every day. Thank you for being with us!
Cataloging is always easy and I love how it works great consistently. This is good. When checking in a stack of books there is rarely a person in front of me while I'm doing so. So WHY is there an interruptive pop-up that says this patron has an overdue when the most likely item i check in will be that overdue? what is the purpose of this??? this is the very bad. And finally when printing out patron details the page formatting does not show everything easily even if you change the page set up from portrait to landscape. This is the mediocre.

This feedback means the world to us, Lisa! We'll send it straight to our developers so we can continue to improve every day. Thank you for being with us!
The product went from a very user friendly system to a very cumbersome one with lots of steps required to do once simple functions. Running reports, checking items/patron statuses, and more have turned into multi-step operations that take time away from servicing students and staff. Add in programming bugs and the frustration has reached very high levels. When calling support I often talk to reps who haven't used the updated program, or not being librarians themselves do not understand what I am trying to accomplish with the program and therefore are unable to help. Hopefully a situation is found soon because I would once again prefer to like using this software since I need to rely on it daily.

Your feedback means the world to us, thank you Patricia! We'll pass this on to our developers so we can make improvements for you.
The software has changed and the things I would be able to accomplish easily with the previous software take me so much longer to figure out now.

It is limiting to only have access to Alexandria as downloaded software, especially as a Chromebook user. Additionally, the lack of intuity with the names of commands makes it difficult for non-librarian trained staff to use the program to the fullest.

Difficult to navigate, too many unnecessary steps.
As a first year librarian, I feel like I struggle to navigate my way through the system. Also, there are too many steps for some actions (i.e. Holding a books) I also feel like the program freezes and becomes unresponsive more than normal.

Our district has been using Alexandria for the past 7 years. It has all the features I wanted in a library automation system and then some. The tech support is awesome; I can call with any question, from "This doesn't seem to be working correctly for me right now" to "I'm having a brain cramp and forgot where to find ___." The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because there are a few things I can't configure exactly the way I would like, but it's possible those may be resolved when I update to v. 7.
I like most of the aspects of Alexandria v7. Having our system be cloud-based helps take some of the worry out of backing up files on our end. Most of the features are similar to v6, but there has been some learning curves. Unfortunately, the training that we paid a lot of money for did not focus on those items that are different from v6, mostly leaving us to figure it out on our own, or over the phone with tech support. There seems to be some bugs to work out, but overall, I am satisfied with Alexandria v7.
We recently upgraded our Alexandria software to 7.1. We were reluctant to do it. Some things are wonderful. Others needs improvement especially searching! We find we got a lot of puzzling search results and can't refine easily. Having the system the web-based is for the most part great despite glitches every once in a while. Our students do love the new look.
