If you can, STAY AWAY

I’ve been using HCD for my handicapped son for almost 5yrs. The first 3 were great, no issues at all. The last 2 have been horrific. Everything from missing items and lost deliveries, to the biggest nightmare, paperwork processing issues. EVERYTHING STATED ON THEIR WEBSITE IS A LIE. There are massive delays in paperwork processing, they can’t correctly navigate and communicate with insurance companies. These issues cause insane delays in receiving products. Here’s what happens…your authorization expires, no one tells you, but they reach out to the prescribing physician. After several attempts, they call you and verify the info is the same and ask you to contact the physician. More time goes by. They call you again, verify the info again, say they’ve reached out to the physician on xx dates and ask you to contact them. This process goes on for months. Meanwhile, you’re in contact with your physician. Your physician is sending them the med necessity letter and sending them back their medical cert form filled out. How do you know? Because after a month without diapers and repeated calls and emails, your physician is now sending you an email with the forms attached, every single time they fax them to HCD. This will go on for a cpl months. You’ll call them repeatedly, ask them to double check they haven’t received the paperwork, they’ll say they’ve never received it. You’ll tell them your dr sent it on xx date, xx date, and xx date. It’ll be sent 8 or 9 times by your physician. You’ll ask to speak to a supervisor…heads up, every time you call, you’ll speak to someone different. Every time you ask to speak to a supervisor, it’ll be someone different…the one thing that stays the same…there’s no way to SPEAK to the authorization department. You read that right: The only communication in or out is email. So the manager will say they’ll email the authorization dept to check. Obviously it takes a cpl days for the process, you’ll call back, explain the whole story to a different person, who will switch you to a different supervisor, you’ll explain it to them, and they’ll tell you they haven’t received the paperwork. They’ll email the authorization dept again. It’s an endless cycle!!! This happens EVERY SINGLE TIME YOUR UP FOR REAUTH! You…YOU..will spend countless hours on the phone with HCD, your physician, your insurance company. Because they do the same thing with the ins co. They’ll say they haven’t gotten the authorization back, but guess what, your ins co will tell you the same thing your dr did. They’re sending it repeatedly. This company is the biggest headache you’ll deal with, which is sad, because you’re probably already dealing with a lot, but they’ll make your life much more difficult! The problem is, they’re one of a cpl of supply co’s , and they’re the only one that works with items over the allowable limit. So you’re stuck. HCD needs to have better paperwork handling procedures, a direct line of contact to the authorization dept, and more accountability!!! If you’re dealing with them, I feel for you, if you’re about to deal with them, good luck!
