Nope!

I own a vax spotwash that normally works well for small stains and marks, but owning a messy teenage son and a dog that tiddled on the carpet, I decided to hire a rug doctor machine the give the carpets a "professional" clean and lift some stains. Well, that was a silly idea! Picked the machine up from my local Morrisons, didn't realise I'd need a forklift to transport the thing! I also spent as much money on rug doctor cleaning chemicals as I did on the hire. So I get the machine home. The website says to clean the machine up before returning it. This seems to be optional because the machine i got filthy and full of old water! Cleaned it up added cleaning chemicals and water and got to work. The noise level and the vibrations of the machine are very suggestive of power and the used water I emptied out of it was black. My carpets did indeed seem brighter. However, the urine stain from my dog and some of the other stains on my son's carpet did not shift, despite pre-treatment with rug doctors pet urine stain spray and other expensive rug doctor chemicals. So on the whole, if you just want to freshen up your carpets, got £50+ to just throw away and you know Eddie Hall (to help lift the bleedin thing), go for it. If you have marks and stains you want rid of, then don't bother because honestly, it's a bit pony!

Rug Doctor? More like Witch Doctor.

First and last time I would use Rug Doctor. I vooked a machine for hire but on collection it was absolutely disgusting. The machine was extremely filthy, to the point I called customer service. The advisor apologised and asked that I try the two other machines/lockers, I was provided the codes and both other machines were in a similar state. No-one in their right mind would even consider taking one of these bacteria ridden cesspit of carpet cleaning machines into their home (if they value cleanliness). The advisor apologised and refunded me. I subsequently went and bought a machine so I could clean my carpets. I would never recommend Rug Doctor, a complete fiasco. The only saving grace was Jane, the customer service advisor. She was a lovely lady who seemed genuinely sorry for the whole situation. I was told this would be passed to the area rep, I can only assume they are responsible for keeping tabs on the machines, we'll it certainly seems as though the rep who covers Trowbridge Tesco is stealing a wage.

Absolutely horrified by my experience

Absolutely horrified by my experience. Rug doctor has ruined every carpet in my house because the suction isn’t strong enough to pull the water out. I only passed over one time as it says online and even then our house smells like a wet sock it’s absolutely disgusting. We are a young couple and quite frankly cannot afford to replace every carpet in our house. Disgusting product and they don’t even leave you with instructions in the box. I had to go out of my way and watch YouTube videos and look online.

What a waste of money

What a waste of money, shit job, took half an hour for the store to figure out what they were doing. And it was incredibly difficult to extend. Late fee is $150. And no information anywhere about charges. In the end its far better to rent from professional cleaners. Don't waste your money here.

Impossible to use

The machine was impossible to push forward, so much so, that we ended up having to solely use the handheld attachment to clean the entire house. The carpet cleaner was only able to clean some light marks, but even things like a toothpaste stain it was unable to remove. In the end it made very little difference to the carpets appearance. Next time I would not hire again and would just save to have my floors professionally cleaned.

Fabulous

Fabulous. Cleans the carpet in one stroke. The carpet is a bit damp but the machine does as its supposed to do. I'll use this again for sure.

Does a barely adequate job

Does a barely adequate job, but also leaves stains from the dirt build up inside the machine that will randomly come out. DO NOT USE! Ruined a $1400 rug.

Rental from B&Q needs scrapping

Rental from B&Q needs scrapping. Don't bother! Didn't really work, but it did manage to vomit black water all over the floor. Cleaned it up and eventually it slightly cleaned but overall, you're better off getting a Ninja one for about £120 - double the price of the rental but it's yours.

Pleased with the results

I rented the Rug Doctor from Asda for around £30 for 24 hours, which I thought was reasonable. The booking process was easy and collecting the machine was also very easy as you simply collect it from a locker using a keypad code. I forgot to grab the instruction pamphlet but there are some instructions on the machine itself, and there are videos on YouTube that talk you through it also. Using the machine is pretty straightforward. You add your detergent and water and then you pull the machine over your carpet whilst pressing the wash button. Then you do the same without the button pressed in order to pull up as much of the water as possible. The hose worked well for the stairs, and was long enough that I could leave the main unit on one floor and reach the next floor of my house without having to try and balance the unit on the stairs. The unit did a decent job of cleaning my carpets. Whilst there were some old stains that wouldn't come out the machine did manage to extract plenty of dirt. It's a little scary how much gets left even with regular vacuuming. I would recommend before starting that you clear your floors and vacuum. Getting as much done in advance will make a big difference, especially as you want to use warm water and you don't want to have to spend ages moving things around. Now the negatives. The machine is heavy. Not heavy enough I couldn't lift it but it's not easy to get up and down stairs. I think it's something to be aware of as it might be an issue for some. Also, the machine is not able to get in to all the little crooks and nannies. The design means it can't always get right to the edge of rooms. However the hose tool can be used to catch the small areas that it can't get so it's not a deal breaker. The thing's noisy too. You have the noise of the main vacuum and then also the noise of the agitation device (think pneumatic drill and you're close). It's not something you could use late at night unless you really hate your neighbours. Attaching the hose can be a little fiddly but once you know the knack it's not too bad, but again I think it's worth noting as some might struggle with this. I own a small Bissel machine which I use for sofas etc. and so I had detergent from that which I used. The Rug Doctor uses a fair amount of water and detergent so do make sure you have plenty. Overall I'm happy and I think for 30 quid it was a worthwhile expense. The carpets definitely look better than they did and as mentioned a lot of dirt definitely got pulled up. I would use again, once my back recovers :D

Very frustrating experience trying to…

Very frustrating experience trying to hire a Rug Doctor machine. I was told I needed two physical forms of ID, including a physical bank card, despite already having a valid driver licence and digital banking verification available. The requirement wasn’t clearly stated in-store either — I only confirmed it after calling customer support. It honestly feels like an outdated policy. Many people now use digital wallets and online banking and don’t regularly carry physical bank cards anymore. I was even told I’d need something like a passport otherwise, which seems excessive just to hire a carpet cleaner from a supermarket. I’ve hired equipment elsewhere before using an online bank statement without any issue, so the policy felt inconsistent and arbitrary. In the end I decided not to hire the machine at all. Ironically, it feels like you need less ID to hire a car. The whole experience left a poor impression and I hope the policy is updated to reflect how people actually manage identification today.

The unit actually tore and marked my carpet in a few places. Company refused to assist in anyway, really shocked and surprised such a large company wanted nothing to do with it. Looking at the reviews, it looks like I’m not alone. I’ll be spreading the word to as many as possible to avoid this company like the plague.

Horrible experience

Horrible experience. The machine was not clean and full of dirty water from the previous customer. That dirty water flooded my car because it was not emptied. Spent 2h cleaning the machine to be able to use it. Machine's hose was broken, had to patch that up too. I returned the machine clean. They don't maintain their machines at all, they don't check them. Will not use their services anymore. Customer service useless. Offering to rearrange different machine after I already wrote I cleaned it and used it. What for? For me to clean that machine also, as everytime it comes dirty. I used their services 3 times, 2 times it was it horrendous condition.

It left my couch dirtier than it had been. I rented the rugdoctor from my local Tesco to clean my couch for an upcoming celebration in our home. The couch wasn’t very dirty, yet needed a sprucing up type of clean. The machine itself needed cleaning before I started. When I used this The tool for cleaning the couch- it continued to spray the cleaning solution even when I wasn’t pressing the red handle for it to come out. So afterwards I found that there are loads of dirty streaks on my couch. It looks worse than it did before! Absolutely disgusted with it. I used it on two rugs also and they had been a cream colour but now a light brown! There are brown streaks on then too.Yuck!! 🤢 So so annoyed 😡 . I DO NOT recommend! UPDATE: I rang customer service and I told them about my experience. I asked for a refund and they have issued one without a problem. I still need to figure out how to reclean the rugs and couch but at least they have offered my money back.

Eww!

One word, disgusting! The units are old and poorly maintained with a STRONG, HORRIBLE odor now left in my carpets, not to mention, they’re even dirtier than before! I don’t even want to walk on our carpets barefoot and I’m super disappointed and feel so gross with the terrible odor. Bought for the “professional grade” cleaning power. Paid extra for their “deepest clean” detergent that did absolutely nothing. Also bulky and difficult to maneuver. Biggest waste of money. Will never use again and will just buy my own which I’m sure will clean much better than this 🤮

Fantastic results for a great price

We hired a carpet cleaning machine for 24 hours. The process was really easy. Ordered online the day before, collected from a locker the next day. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. We cleaned 8 rooms, 2 sets of stairs and a sofa in a day which was much more than we anticipated and the results were incredible. I thought the products might be expensive with the hire being so cheap but £20 of cleaner was more than enough. I would not hesitate to use the cleaners again and would highly recommend them.

The f***ing Rug Doctor experience

The Rug Doctor experience started badly. The locker allocated at our local Asda store was empty but in any case the given code did not open the locker. After a trial of a phone call to the 0800 number I got through to someone who gave me a new code for a different locker - it didn’t work. They talked me through resetting the lock and then gave me a new code which eventually did work. With some difficulty I got the machine to the car, it wouldn’t easily fit in the boot. I found it very heavy and awkward to lift, I laid it on its side to get it home. It leaked a load of crap all over the boot of my new car - I spent an hour cleaning the boot. I wanted to start upstairs but had difficulty carrying it upstairs, very heavy and awkward and no handles. Cleaned upstairs OK ish, a bit too wet. The tool that I paid extra for to clean the stairs didn’t work - I note that other commentators make the same point. The machine cleaned downstairs OK ish a bit wet. The cleaning fluid is very expensive - looks and smells like old fashioned 1001 that used to clean a big, big carpet for less than half-a-crown. I would not recommend Rug Doctor, look for an alternative

Disappointed.

Disappointed. Collected the machine from Tesco. Easy collection. The machine was not clean and full of dirty water from the previous customer! It was hard to bring home due to the weight of the water in the machine. The hand device to clean mattress was also dodgy and did not work properly. When I called the customer service number they advised the machine I was using was old. Overall disappointed and would not recommend.
