What people say

Terrible policies and bad customer service

I would leave 0 stars if it was an option. I ordered 2 fig trees in June, both arrived in poor shape. The 3-4' tree woke up after 2 months of being in a planter with good rich soil and only the bottom 12-18" was alive, the other was completely dead on arrival. When I contacted Tyty they issued a small credit for the 4-5' dead tree instead of simply replacing it and was informed I could order another when they were in stock. Now that they are back in stock it will cost me $80 to get the same tree that I initially ordered. When calling customer service they informed me that "this is their policy" and will not offer any additional credit or help me in any way but I could wait until there's a sale although I will still need to. In summary, I just want them to deliver on my original order but the only way for that to happen is to pay them a considerably more $ than I originally spent. SAVE YOUR MONEY DON'T BUT FROM THIS COMPANY. SHOP SOMEWHERE WITH A SENSE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Ordered $400 of shrubs and trees

Ordered $400 of shrubs, trees, fruit bushes and every single one has died. They arrived in poor condition. When i requested replacements, I was told they only offer store credit. However, the shipping charges were so high that shipping took up 1/2 the store credit forcing me to spend more money to get replacements. I reached out and asked for refunds which they refused. Be careful! This seems like a shady place. Lesson learned for me and wish I had done my research first.

We are sorry to hear that you feel this way, as this does not match the experience we strive to provide for our customers. We looked into your review using the name provided, but the only order we were able to locate was for $156.38, consisting of a single kiwi plant that was covered under our Plantsurance warranty. We were unable to find an order matching the approximately $400 purchase described in your review. If you could please provide your order number or the name the order was placed under, we would be more than happy to investigate this further and review everything with you. If it's easier, you're also welcome to give us a call, and we'll be happy to look into your concerns and work toward a resolution.

I ordered a Stella cherry tree in 2025…

I ordered a Stella cherry tree in 2025 to be sent in Jan 2026. Because of very cold weather it was sent in Feb. and I planted it is 2 days. Watered well and mulched as told but it never grew and they gave me credit for that tree. I now reordered the Stella that will be sent in Jan. 2027 and hope that one will live.

Thank you for giving us another opportunity to earn your business. We're sorry your first Stella cherry tree did not survive despite your efforts to plant and care for it. While we never like to see a tree fail, we are glad we were able to honor our Plantsurance warranty by issuing you a store credit toward a replacement. We appreciate your patience with the weather-related shipping delay, as protecting trees from severe winter conditions helps give them the best chance of success. We look forward to shipping your new Stella cherry tree in January 2027 and hope it thrives for you for many years to come. If you have any questions about planting or care when it arrives, please don't hesitate to reach out—we're always happy to help.

Ty ty nursery - 2026 Personal opinion from an actual current persimmon tree on-line customer (victim) Purchased six (6) large and expensive Persimmon trees in 2026 (3 trees each in two separate orders) from Ty-ty nursery. Two trees arrived severely damaged with one tree (Fuyugaki Persimmon Tree) $77.84 received with the upper branches broken off. The terminal ends of three already well sprouted branches broken off (one ~12-13") (one ~8-10") and (one ~6-8"). The (Fuyugaki) tree had already sprouted leaves on all branches several weeks earlier prior to shipping. All other leaves quickly dried brown and fell of within days of receipt. Now 3 months later this leafless tree has not sprouted any leaves whatsoever, appearing in a state of dormancy (May into August) or possibly slow death, thought all along the few severely broken spindly upper branches too are progressively shriveling and dying from the terminal ends towards the root end. The second damaged tree (Giant Fuyu Persimmon Tree) $119.75 received with the large and long tap root bent upwards 180° in the shipping plastic wrap, and broken completely into two large pieces at the point of maximum bending. This root ball was unnecessarily overly wrapped extremely tight. Apparently this was done to fit the large tree into the available shipping box length. No problem right? Ty ty has a guarantee. Well, just wait until you try and get that tree with no living tap root replaced. Then comes all the requirements for mandatory delays until later in the year as it may yet sprout (or hopefully by then you will forget about this) and you have to send them a photo of the problematic or dead tree and only then will you receive their answer, not a replacement this year, but only their answer. This company has hundreds of negative reviews that can be easily found on many various sites. Many reviews state "stay away from this company/nursery". My plan is to never, ever purchase again from this problematic phony company and consider receiving only 4 of 6 trees in good order, I should feel lucky. I am not a tree novice as I have personally planted in excess of 1000 fruit and nut trees here on my property over the past 60 years. This year I planted 22 additional grafted or hybrid Asian Persimmon trees to those I already planted several decades ago. I ordered 22 trees from 8 different suppliers this year. This supplier wins the "PHONY AWARD".

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We reviewed your email correspondence and are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with 2 out of the 7 trees you have ordered from us. Based on our records, those two trees were shipped later in the growing season. During this time of year, it is common for persimmon trees to experience transplant stress, which can cause leaves to shrivel, dry up, and drop after planting. This is a normal response to transplanting and can occur even when an established tree is moved from one location in a yard to another. Regarding the warranty process, we do require photos of any shipping damage or trees believed to be non-viable so we can accurately evaluate the issue. This is a standard practice throughout the nursery industry and allows us to determine the most appropriate resolution. When we requested additional photos to review your concerns, we unfortunately never received a response, which prevented us from completing our evaluation. We understand your frustration and are sorry your experience did not meet your expectations. Our goal has always been to work with our customers, and all we ask for is a photo of the concern so we can properly assess the issue and provide the best assistance possible. If you are still experiencing issues with the trees, please send us the requested photos, and we would be more than happy to review everything and work with you to get this resolved.

Buyer beware - iffy quality

In line with what others have said, plants arrived in less-than-perfect condition. The crape Myrtle I ordered came looking like a witches broom, the kwanza cherry tree came with drooping leaves, other plants arrived just looking like they came off the Walmart end of season sale rack -very disappointing. When I contacted the nursery, I was told the plants were stressed and just needed more water. On June 2nd I requested credit for the plants that did not make it -6 weeks later I am still looking for a response. Very disappointing experience!!

Ty Ty sent me Chinese Chestnut trees…

Ty Ty sent me Chinese Chestnut trees instead of the American ones. They know what they’re doing since people from online forums have the same issue with this tree! Don’t ever buy from them!

Reply from Ty Ty Nursery2026-07-24

We are sorry to hear that you may have received Chinese Chestnut trees instead of the American Chestnut trees you ordered. We guarantee the correct varieties and do not intentionally substitute one variety for another. We would appreciate the opportunity to review your order and make this right. We were unable to locate your account from the information provided here, so please send us your order number or give us a call so we can verify the issue and provide a resolution.

Ordered 4 dog woods 7 feet tall

Ordered 4 dog woods 7 feet tall. All 4 DOA. On their guarantee I changed to 5 Red Tuscarora Crepe Myrtle's. 4 don't look like the 5th which is blooming WHITE NOT RED. The other 4 are not doing as well and, as I said, I don't know what they are.

I bought Plum trees and Grape vines, which were two separate orders. Two of Two plum trees are dead. One of two grape vines are dead. I made two separate "Plantsurance" Claims, one claim for the two plum trees and another claim for the grape vine. When I made the plum tree claim, they gave me credit for one tree, for $29.75. I replied back to let them know, the claim was for two plum trees. When I sent my pictures for the grape vine claim, they responded with "If each tree was 59.50 and you received 50% discount what you paid was provided in the credit. I'm not sure where the discrepancy is?". The person was talking about the plum tree claim in the grape vine claim but also, each tree was $29.75, after a discount, and both trees are totaled at $59.50. One grape vine is $22.72. So, they were certainly talking about the plum tree claim. Also, the "Plantsurance" is advertised as "Hassle Free". Clicking on the 1yr Plantsurance Policy, said "... you will receive a store credit for the value of the plants that did not survive transplanting...". Even if I bought the plants with a discount, I am not getting the "Value" of the plant in store credit. They give you the credit of what you paid for. This process has been a hassle, they are unwilling to work with the customer, and it appears their "Plantsurance" policy is a scam, to a degree. I just want my plants replaced, which would cost $34.75 for one plum tree. I paid full price for the grape vines, because the page reloaded and the coupon did not process. I tried to immediately cancel the order, through their "My Account" section, and clicked "Change quantities / cancel orders". I could not cancel the order, because it was already "shipped". This happened moments after making the order, which makes the "Change quantities / cancel orders" link, a fake or unusable link to change your order. Do not do business with Ty Ty Nursery, you can get some of these plants from Tractor Supply for cheaper and without paying shipping.

Reply from Ty Ty Nursery2026-07-21

We sincerely apologize for the confusion and frustration surrounding both claims. After reviewing the correspondence, the credit issued for the two plum trees reflected the amount paid after the 50% promotion. This promotion effectively reduced the total cost of the two trees to $29.75. Regarding the grapevine order, the promotion did not apply because that order did not meet the required $100 minimum. We understand that the explanations provided were unclear, and a member of our team will reach out to you directly to review the claims and work toward making this right.

Scammers—arrived damaged and horrible…

Scammers—arrived damaged and horrible customer service. Absolute scammers. I ordered three trees, and two of them arrived semi-dead. I have reached out multiple times via email to request a refund or credit for the two damaged trees (a loss of $120), but they have ignored me. Only one tree out of the three was acceptable. Their lack of communication is unprofessional, and they clearly do not stand behind their products. Save your money and shop elsewhere. They owe me $120 and have lost a customer. Update – response to the Tyty reaction here: I have provided photos on 5-1-2026. I have also sent 4 more emails between May and July 2026. With the exception of the very initial email sent by the company from 4-28-2026 and signed by Theresa, I received no response.

Reply from Ty Ty Nursery2026-07-21

We’re sorry to hear about your experience. After reviewing the correspondence, we confirmed that our team responded to your emails requesting photos of the two trees you were concerned about. At this time, we have not received those photos. Please send them to us at your earliest convenience, and we will review the condition of the trees and work to resolve the issue promptly.

I ordered almost $400 worth of cherry trees. They told me it could not be shipped til 2027. I asked for my refund. Theresa the person who works there came back and said we can give you a store credit or ship early in 2027. After I told her to please refund me she came back and said we can ship in 2027. Again I asked for a refund. The emails have gone back and forth for 3-4 times still no refund. I had dealt h with this company years ago and i should have remembered how bad it was then when I ordered. Now I need to get with my bank to report fraud. Do not ever order from this horrible company. They will steal your money!

Reply from Ty Ty Nursery2026-07-21

We sincerely apologize for the frustration and any miscommunication regarding your order. The cherry trees were purchased as a preorder with a future shipping date, but we understand that the timing did not work for you. Your order has now been canceled and fully refunded to your original payment method. Please allow 3–5 business days for the refund to appear, depending on your bank. We regret the inconvenience and appreciate the opportunity to resolve this.

This company is a disaster

This company is a disaster! They are a complete scam! They offer a deceptive one year guarantee on their plants. I found out they issueda store credit ( not including shipping charges). DO NOT order from this company! They should be shut down and closed by the better business bureau!

Reply from Ty Ty Nursery2026-07-21

We’re sorry for the frustration and that the Plantsurance coverage does not cover the cost of shipping. Our one-year Plantsurance provides store credit for the exact price paid for the affected plants after any discounts, excluding shipping charges and taxes. However, as a courtesy, I have gone ahead and issued a refund. We sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding and inconvenience.

Walnut trees are not as advertised

Order English Walnut, Heartnut, and Butternuts 8 years ago. I have waited patiently for the nuts to start forming and dropping. Went out to check trees this evening. All the nuts are the same. Every single tree are black walnuts. Most of the trees survived to adulthood so that is a plus. However over $1000 wasted on trees species I did not want and that are considered invasive in my area. DO NOT BUY WALNUT TREES FROM THIS COMPANY. Update: Contacted with 24 hours by new owners. They were very respectful and responsive. I will add that the chestnut and pecan varieties that were also ordered at the same time are thriving and producing (chestnuts at least). Increased stars from 1 to 3 based on customer service. I still stand by my buyer beware of the walnut trees. It will take several years again to find out if these trees are correct varieties or not.

Reply from Ty Ty Nursery2026-07-21

Thank you for your understanding and for giving us the opportunity to address this issue. We sincerely appreciate you updating your review and recognizing the efforts of our team. We regret the original mix-up with the walnut trees and are grateful that you allowed us the chance to make it right. We also appreciate your positive feedback regarding the chestnut and pecan trees.

They delete negative reviews

They delete negative reviews. And they have a lot of them. They consistently send dead or dying bare root stock at the end of season so you can't get a refund, just store credit (that you can't apply until the following year). They misrepresent quality compared to what is shipped. Across the board, disappointing.

Reply from Ty Ty Nursery2026-07-21

We’re sorry to hear about your experience. We do not have the ability to delete customer reviews. After reviewing the correspondence, our team was waiting to receive the requested photos needed to complete your claim. However, as a courtesy, we have gone ahead and issued a refund. We sincerely apologize for the frustration and inconvenience.

Ordered five raspberry canes that came…

Ordered five raspberry canes that came very lifeless looking. Planted them and hoped they would come out of dormancy, but they never did. Filed a claim with them which they granted, but they only will warranty the plant and not any of the fertilizer or transplant kits that they sell with it. In addition, if they give any discount on the entire order, they will take that discount and apply it solely to the plants and only refund what is most beneficial to them. When trying to talk to customer service, it is clear that they are only looking to refund the minimum amount possible in store credit. Based on customer service alone, I would not recommend doing business with them.

Reply from Ty Ty Nursery2026-07-21

We sincerely apologize for the frustration you experienced. Our Plantsurance coverage applies only to the amount paid for the plant material and does not include fertilizer, transplant kits, shipping, or taxes. Any discounts applied at the time of purchase are also reflected in the credit amount. However, we understand your concerns and will have a member of our team reach out to you directly to review the situation and work toward making this right.

Terrible service

I had a very disappointing experience with Ty Ty Nursery. I ordered a Chinese Snowball plant, and it arrived completely dry and appeared dead. When I contacted customer service, I was told to wait a couple of months before they would consider replacing it, just in case it was still alive. After waiting as instructed, I performed the scratch test again, took new photos, and sent them in. They finally agreed the plant was dead, but instead of issuing a refund, they only gave me store credit. When I tried to use the credit to reorder the same plant in July, I discovered it wouldn’t be available until December. That makes no sense because I live in an area where the ground is frozen and covered with snow in December, so I can’t even plant it then. I asked if they could simply refund my money instead, but they refused. After months of waiting, I still don’t have the plant I paid for, and I’m left with store credit I can’t use for what I originally wanted. The entire process was frustrating, and the customer service was not helpful or accommodating. I would not recommend this company based on my experience.

Reply from Ty Ty Nursery2026-07-21

We sincerely apologize for the frustration and inconvenience you experienced. Unfortunately, we are unable to ship the Chinese Snowball plant during this time of year, and we understand that a December delivery would not be suitable for planting in your area. Because of this, I have gone ahead and issued a refund for the plant instead of leaving the amount as store credit. We regret the inconvenience and appreciate your patience throughout the process.
