Workaway is better

They have a good purpose but if you want to volunteer workaway.info is still better

It's a great way to create strong connections and friendships while traveling on a budget. If you do your homeworks well and ask questions about everything that's essential for you and if you're honest and transparent, it will all be great. 9/10

Had a bad experience with a host

Had a bad experience with a host. Reached out to Worldpackers with evidence and explanation and heard nothing back. I tried to activate the WP safeguard that Worldpackers pretends we have access to and didn’t hear anything back. Checked other reviews this has happened to others also.

4th year of Worldpackers volunteer and travelling!

I've been using Worldpackers and volunteering while I'm travelling around the world and even in my home country. This is my 4th year being a Worldpackers member and I'm sure more years to come! Several months ago I had an opportunity to be interviewed for Podcast and it was a great thing that not only I could share my experiences with other volunteers but also to deliver the encouraging message, especially for middle age travellers (like myself). Thank you for always prompt follow-up and services.

Five Stars for Worldpackers!

I am extremely satisfied with Worldpackers and the service you provide. The volunteers I have hosted have been invaluable and have greatly helped me with the daily work in my hostel. The platform makes it much easier to connect with motivated people from all over the world and creates wonderful cultural exchanges. No support at all, even when reporting host abuse

The worst support I’ve ever experienced, hard to even call them support at all. Messaged them multiple times, only once got the bot answer. Had doubts before going to one of the hosts, so asked support if they can double checked him. Got the robotic answers just with typical phrases that they check every host, that I shouldn’t worry and I can contact other travelers or read reviews. Obviously I did it before messaging support, but only one volunteer that I contacted answered me, turned out later on that host had fake reviews from people that never went there. Well clearly I had sth to worry about, because unfortunately as I was worried he turned out to be creep harassing women. Right after I finished my stay there I reported this host multiple times, this time not even bot answer, just ignorance. Tried to warn other girls that were interested in staying there but the system let you send only three messages a day, even if you try to protect others from abuse, because the support did nothing. Later on when I finally could contact some other girls it was too late, they went there and experienced abuse too, including male host trying to have sex with a female volunteeer - twice younger than him, not even being 20 years old. It could have been easily avoided if they just reacted to my messages and probably some others too. Later on turned out that other girls that I finally managed to find and speak to also wrote to Worldpackers support with the same result as me - which is no at all. Only after months his profile disappeared from Worldpackers, but not a single information from Worldpackers. We wanted to report this guy to police and have Worldpackers help, but couldn’t get even one reply. God knows how many other girls that were hurt and traumatized are out there. We all had bad feeling but nobody listened to us and our reports, now the guy disappeared and Worldpackers just pretend that problem doesn’t exist. Had totally different experience with other platforms.

Worldpackers has been amazing …

Worldpackers has been an amazing experience. I am a retired man looking to expand my global view and experience new cultures. I have met so many welcoming hosts and wonderful volunteers on my journey it's hard to describe it all in a review. I have always felt safe and "at home" with my hosts. Most of my fellow volunteers have been much younger, and occasionally needed a day or 2 to warm/open up, but ultimately all welcomed me and became part of my road family. I have made so many incredible memories with volunteers from every part of our tiny little world. I have discovered that almost everyone has the same desires in life,,,peace and joyful times. The Worldpackers site is super easy to use, even an old toad like me can navigate it and use it. The WP staff on the rare occasion I needed them immediately stepped up and supported me. I can't say enough positive about the app, it is life changing in so many positive ways. I have used it 25+ times since April 2024 with only 1 bad host (now booted from WP)

It provides travelers with amazing experiences! Always read the reviews and make sure you're staying with good hosts. But I'd say my overall experience with Worldpackers has been life changing.

Stupid you have to pay to register I dont think they know the words charity it means you use your time voluntary even for people to register I dont want to be on a voluntary site where you have to pay its stupid

As a hostel owner

As a hostel owner, I have all but great respect and appreciation for Worldpackers. They are the perfect hub for hosts and travellers to meet up, not only in the networking sense but also in regards to the the background they provide to hosts, the internal training programs and reviews. Their interface is easy and the user base is quite large.

Personally, I never plan to use them again. Ever.

I’ve attempted several volunteer projects through WorldPackers, but my experience has been VERY uneven. Only two gave reasonably accurate descriptions (a cook’s assistant at a Turkish Restaurant in Chiapas, Mexico and helping street dogs in Cusco, Peru). Both of these programs I completed and spent a month at. I tried to volunteer at a monkey sanctuary in Ecuador, but the housing was full of black mold and I was bitten 3 times by the same monkey. I lasted a week and they did nothing about the monkey, even though he has done this repeatedly. I still have a scar 10 months later where he bit through 3 pieces of clothing. I tried to volunteer at what I thought was an animal sanctuary in Cusco, Peru. But it turned out to be 6 hrs from Cusco, by van on dangerous roads, and the man was selling our services to other people. Also, when I complained about safety concerns, I was thrown out and he would not refund my money. I agreed to be a caretaker at an “artist retreat” outside Mexico City. Turns out there were no artists, I was at the owner’s beck and call constantly and when she visited, she enjoyed yelling at everyone. I waked out. I recently worked at a Youth program in Nairobi, Kenya. While they were doing amazing work with children, I’d signed on to work in a library and read to children. Instead, I was sent to a public school (100 kids to a class), a private school, a feeding program (500 children each day) and an after school activities program. Also, I’d agreed to 5hrs/day, 5 days a week. They worked me 7 hours each day 6 days a week. All of this was in a slum with no sanitation, no clean water. A great program , but not what I’d signed on for. Finally, I attempted to volunteer at what was labeled a permaculture facility that sponsored native healing programs outside Cuenca, Ecuador. There had not been healing programs for months and even though the owner had been on the land 2 years, NOTHING was growing. The owner had a 5yo, deaf, autistic and almost non-verbal child who did NOT like me there. I could not keep him out of my room and possessions (there was no door) and anytime his father wasn’t looking, he’d hit me. I left. The real clincher was that WorldPackers would NOT let me leave an accurate, negative review. They would take it down and “offer” to let me re-write it, but would give no advice as to what they saw as wrong. Personally, I never plan to work through them again. WorldPackers is just a platform for organizations to post opportunities. These are NOT necessarily vetted in any way, no one checks if the information is accurate and since negative reviews are not allowed, you can’t trust those either. You are counting on everyone to be honest and sometimes they simply aren’t.

Love the app/ platform

Love the app/ platform , their are reliable and same for their hosts. Good customer service! Very self explanatory, has online courses available and gives a wide and great volunteer opportunity

Way better than other volunteering apps

After volunteering for almost seven years on a direct competitor's platform, I switched to Worldpackers, and my only regret was not doing so sooner. For the last two years, I've been using Worldpackers, and I can't praise it enough. A huge base of active hosts, a very user-friendly interface with a lot of helpful filters and information every volunteer wants to know before applying, a fast, efficient, and supportive help desk... There's still room for improvement (a couple of useful features that could be added in the future, like a map search or searching by specific words), but overall, Worldpackers is leaving its competitors in the dust. 9/10

Amazing!

I have had some life changing experiences thanks to world packers. It really is a great company that helps make putting hosts to eager travelers together. It has allowed me to achieve my travel goals along with making new connections, trying new jobs and growing as a person. I really liked that world packers has an insurance built in to the subscription so you felt protected if your volunteering doesn’t go as planned.
