What people say

Hidden costs, no customer service

Hidden costs, customer service not available Final invoice just a bunch of fees stacked on top of each other with the "rental fee" only about half the cost. I also got invoiced for fuel even though I had booked the pre-paid fuel option. During my rent I tried reaching out to customer service and got stuck with a chatbot from the 90s that couldn't find my order despite spelling my name correctly and having my rental order number. Once I finally got hold of a human they were not helpful for unknown reasons ("the system says no" type of answers for simple queries) Only reason there is 2 stars instead of 1 is that the fuel overcharge got refunded in the end

The service is quick and friendly

The service is quick and friendly. I always receive a warm greeting whenever I come in. I love the selection of cars they have available. A couple of times I've left personal items in the rental and Robert and Luke were able to store my belongings until I came to pick them up. I also like that they are about 10-15 minutes from my house which makes getting to easy.

Car pick-up was fast, but toll pricing a ripoff

Car pick-up was smooth, didn't have to wait too long in line. But the toll fees afterward are way higher than expected and frankly, ridiculous. It smells of predator pricing behavior condoned by higher level executives and it's really deplorable how they sneak these fees in with little regard for their customers.

DON’T TRUST THEM

DON’T TRUST THEM, we got a flat tire in the middle of nowhere(which of course it’s not their fault) but we were trying to reach assistance and we couldn’t for 1,5h, finally someone answered (call lasted another 45 minutes), women said she had sent a lift and towing car but only towing car came after 5 hours, we were sitting on the road for 8 hours it was so windy and it wasn’t any internet, the lift didn’t come so we called 911 and they bring us to nearest place were we can eat and warm ourselves

I would never rent from hertz ever again in life!!

I would never rent from hertz ever again in life nor wood i recommend it to anyone i kno. Their customer service was less the dissatisfactory, their return review people are liars and they just all around are not a good or consistent business.

AVOID HERTZ at all costs

AVOID HERTZ at all costs. They dishonestly placed additional insurance fees and another fee on my agreement DESPITE me verbally declining them in person. This is criminal fraud by false representation. Customer Service drag the subsequent response out to try and make you give up. USE SMALL CLAIMS COURT TO RECOUP FEES. They should be investigated by the police. I used Hertz all my life but will not be using them ever again!

The Worst Customer Service Ever

This review is formally to complain about my recent rental experience and to request a full refund of my rental charges along with reimbursement for the alternative transportation I was forced to arrange as a direct result of your vehicle’s failure and Hertz’s inability to provide a solution. At the time of pickup, a Hertz employee conducted a vehicle inspection with me present. However, approximately 30 to 40 minutes into my drive, the air conditioning system completely stopped functioning, making the vehicle undriveable under the conditions. I immediately called Hertz customer services to report the issue. The representative confirmed that there were no replacement vehicles available in my area, leaving me with no alternative. She then instructed me to return the vehicle all the way back to the Houston branch where I had originally rented it. This was not a viable option — driving back to Houston would have caused me to be significantly late to my destination. With no solution offered by Hertz, I had no choice but to return the vehicle to the nearest available branch. Upon returning the vehicle, the agent at the drop-off branch requested that I pay for the time I had used the car. While I did not wish to cause a scene as she was polite and understanding, I made it clear that I did not consider this fair given the circumstances. She acknowledged my concern and kindly provided me with the contact details to raise a formal complaint. With no rental vehicle and no replacement offered by Hertz, I was left stranded and had to arrange my own transportation to reach my destination in New Orleans. Finding an Uber proved extremely difficult, as multiple drivers cancelled due to the long distance involved. After nearly an hour of failed attempts, I was finally able to secure a ride. In total, my Uber fare to New Orleans came to $262.74 + $200 cash tips To be clear, this entire ordeal — the stranded wait, the difficulty securing transportation, and the additional costs — was a direct consequence of Hertz providing a faulty vehicle and failing to offer any meaningful assistance when I called for help. I am therefore requesting the following: 1. Full refund of all Hertz rental charges: $557.75 2. Full reimbursement of my Uber fare to New Orleans: $262.74 Sincerely, TF

Wish I could give negative stars

Wish I could give negative stars. I made a reservation months ago for a truck to be picked up at the Sonoma County Airport. Went up to the desk told them my name and the service rep said “we don’t have any trucks here” when I asked why I was able to book a truck in a location that doesn’t have them he told me” I don’t know” I told him this was a big problem and his response was”YEP” and then proceeded to wave the next customer up to the desk. I was completely floored. He treated me like I was a bother and I ended up having to scramble to find another truck an hour and a half away… customer service does not exist at the Hertz in Sonoma County. Never will rent from them again and will be sure to share my experience with anyone who will listen. Seriously atrocious

Bad luck, or bad practice?

The unluckiest hire-car customer, or a systemic failure at Hertz and their suppliers? In 2024 ( bear with me ) I hired a Toyota for a few weeks, and had no problems until the day before the return when the number plate literally fell off - while I was driving. Fortunately, despite the risk of entering the middle of a busy road, I was able to retrieve it. Upon returning the car the next day without the number plate attached, there didn’t seem to be any major surprise with ‘this kinda thing happens with these stick-on plates’ being the response. Hmmm…really?….was my response. If this is a known failure, is Hertz just expecting customers to deal with it? And what would likely happen if a car is returned without a number plate because the stick-on failure happens without the driver’s knowing, or it’s just too dangerous to try to retrieve it? So, fast forward to July 2026, with another Toyota hired for a few weeks…..and it happens again! The number plate is spotted hanging by a single thread of a single stick-on and would again have just fallen off while driving. Only this time it happens in the middle of the hire period, which immediately causes problems as a quick google search shows there is a zero tolerance policy within the traffic regulations for driving without a number plate with a €60 on-the-spot fine and a no-driving order until the plate is reattached. And the (eventual) Hertz answer to this predicament? ‘Can you find a garage or car goods shop that stocks the stick-ons, or something similar and put the plate back on?’. This is what I had to do in order to avoid a fine and continue with my journey. What the response might have been had the plate been lost while driving, who knows? If, as happened on this occasion, upon return, the customer discovers an out-of-hours collection fee being charged despite the flight delay being communicated in the booking, just what extra charge is a customer likely to face because part of the car is actually missing? So, is this just a very weird coincidence that it could happen to the same person on two separate occasions two years apart? Or, does Hertz need to take this seriously in terms of how widespread an issue it is? Which suppliers to the Hertz fleet are using stick-on number plates, and what quality controls are in place to ensure they actually work?

Terrible customer service and just keep…

Terrible customer service and just keep lying in order to do minimal work. Been waiting for a deposit refund for over 1 month... Also owed a simple refund for over 2 weeks... Please avoid using hertz They always want things there way.. Wether it be £41 for a an email described as admn charge... Or holding your deposit to ransom for over a month they will frustrate lie and simply take advantage of their customers... Very greedy and very expensive for the minimal amount of customer service... Disgusting and disgraceful... I've changed company and have a good experience elsewhere

If you hate yourself, please go to Hertz! :(

If I could give the Hertz rental car, Raleigh Airport, North Carolina, less than a one star I would. Their system would not work. I could not get my car. Then I find out that they don’t have the car. Then they can’t get me into any car that is the correct size. When they finally find one car that is the correct size of what I already paid for… They doubled the rental price! Almost an hour wasted for absolutely nothing. The line of people waiting is probably about 18 people long and most of them have been here the entire time I have. All of their gates are shut down to get out of the lot except for one. Avoid this place at all costs!

Hertz sucks

Hertz sucks! Got the rental (on a Friday) less than 24 hours got in it to go somewhere Saturday and car had a horrible vibration at 45 mph and over. Called the hertz office they were closed of course. Called customer service that was a joke. Finally was told to go to pep boys (which were great) after waiting over 2 hours for approval to come thru for a new tire from hurtz and 5 or 6 phone calls to every department hurtz has we were give the ok to put a new tire on. Service person said tire had been previously plugged and was full of fix a flat which harden and that was what caused the vibration. The tire was also damaged from I can only assume a flat that had been driven on. So unsafe!! I will never use them again.

I will never use Hertz again

I will never use Hertz again. First, when I picked up the rental car, in the Lexington, KY airport, it had only a quarter tank of gas. I took a photo of the instrument panel and filled the tank as soon as I could stop. Nine gallons @ 3.69. When I turned in the vehicle on July 29, the attendant would not make an adjustment. Secondly, I was charged a $200 deposit. If that is not credited to my credit card in a reasonable time, I will file a claim with my USAA card. I will also suggest that USAA not continue to be affiliated with Hertz. In the future, I will check with client reviews before I rent an automobile. Hertz reviews are generally bad. E. Phillips, Lexington, KY.

Car rental in Greece Athens airport

We had a group of 9 that rented (2) vehicles while in Greece. Upon return of the vehicles we were charged approximately 2000 euro over the originally quoted prices! We did ask for damage waiver ins but additional insurance was added (that was not requested) plus a VAT tax that was not originally quoted. We do not feel the additions quoted were explained properly prior to our signature. We will not be renting through Hertz again. If you do rent through Hertz, make sure they explain what all the costs are before you sign no matter how rushed and ask for a detailed invoice. Otherwise will not receive a detailed invoice until after the car is returned. At least that was our experience.

I had booked a 3/4 ton truck months ago…

I had booked a 3/4 ton truck months ago online I called them to change the pickup date and I had to repeat myself hundreds of times they wouldn't listen to me just kept talking saying the same thing over and over I asked for a email saying I changed my pickup date they said sure we'll send it I called back because no confirmation email they told me they cancelled my reservation so I recommend you go somewhere else that hertz,s doesn't own no hertz,s dollar, avis, etc i got screwed last year by hertz,s saying I damaged a vehicle but I didn't had to pay 600 something for damage I didn't do so I'll never go to hertz,s ago

Salman is the best

I would like to recognize the outstanding service we received from the Hertz representative, Salman. He was professional, friendly, and patient throughout the entire process. He took the time to answer all of our questions, made everything easy to understand, and ensured we had a great experience. We were four girls under the name Rana, and Salman provided us with excellent customer service. His kindness, patience, and professionalism made a real difference and made our experience with Hertz smooth and enjoyable. Thank you for having such a dedicated team member. We truly appreciate his help and hope he receives the recognition he deserves.

One star is too generous

One star is too generous. Hertz left me stranded repeatedly and refused to take responsibility. Employee Shavon at the Albany airport location should be fired, along with the Middle Eastern-looking employee who wears glasses. Corporate needs to deal with these incompetent staff. After the Latham location refused my exchange, I went to the Albany Central Ave location. They handed me a filthy Kia EV6 covered in dirt, debris, and a stained roof with red sludge that I had to clean myself. That same EV6 repeatedly went into limp mode and lost power while still showing around 20% range. I had to have it towed four separate times. Every time I called, Hertz refused to document it as a mechanical issue and refused to cover the tows. I was forced to use up my own AAA benefits, pay $240 out of pocket for one private tow, and have my brother arrange another tow. I also lost multiple work shifts and had my work account suspended because of the breakdowns. Only after several failures did Hertz finally document it as mechanical. The final straw was waiting over three hours for a tow that never arrived even their own agent said the delay was unacceptable. This wasn’t bad luck. Hertz gave me a dirty, defective car and then did everything they could to avoid taking responsibility. I will never rent from them again and I strongly recommend everyone else do the same.
