Avoid the Hertz desk at Palma de Mallorca Airport

I rented a car through Zest Car Rental (who are brilliant) and collected it from the Hertz desk at Palma de Mallorca Airport. The experience was genuinely disappointing. After a short wait, I was served by a male staff member who seemed unhappy from the start. He asked if I would like a manual or automatic and when I asked for an automatic car, he told me it would cost an extra €7 a day — only then explaining that my booking was actually for a manual and automatic was a paid upgrade. This should have been made clear upfront rather than presented as if it were just "the price." He then asked if I wanted additional insurance. I explained I already had cover through my booking, but he pushed back, warning that without extra cover the excess would be €2,000. It felt like a pressure sales tactic rather than a genuine effort to inform me of my options — not what I'd expect from Hertz. While I was on the phone confirming my booking details with Zest, the staff member walked over to a female colleague and the two of them had a conversation about me. My daughter, who speaks fluent Spanish, clearly heard him call me a "pendeja" — a derogatory term — well within earshot. Before we left, I told him directly that we had heard everything and that speaking about customers that way was unprofessional. He looked visibly caught out but didn't apologise. I raised this with Hertz afterwards and it took 15 days to get a response, which was weak and showed the same indifferent attitude. Based on this experience, I can't recommend this desk.

I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with Hertz Lithuania. My invoice states that I returned the car at 13:29, but I actually returned it at approximately 11:14, within the agreed rental period. Despite this, I was charged for a rental extension and an additional rental day. I also returned the vehicle with more fuel than when I collected it. I contacted customer service by email and asked them to review the vehicle return records and CCTV/check-in logs to verify the actual return time. I also called five times, but no one answered. For days, I received no response. Update: After finally receiving a reply, I was told the manager would resolve the issue the following week. Instead, I received another incorrect invoice—this time charging me twice for the Complete Protection package, meaning I was billed for full insurance twice. Since then, they have stopped responding to both my emails and phone calls. Poor customer service, inaccurate billing, and no follow-up. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend renting from this location. Be aware that Hertz, Thrifty, and Dollar are operated together here, so my experience applies to all three brands at this location.

Hertz is an Unethical Company

The definition of "reservation" means to make a booking in advance to HOLD a vehicle to ensure that you will have one when you come to pick it up. The word "reservation" means absolutely nothing to this company. They will make you wait for hours to acquire a vehicle. And as I found out today, if you tell them you simply cannot afford to waste hours of your day waiting for a car and you want to cancel, they will let you leave without canceling your reservation in their system and charge you a "No show fee". Upon reading other reviews on Yelp, I'm clearly not the first person they've done this to. Also, saying "unethical" was my diplomatic way of saying they're thieves.

Had a reservation from January at the North Attleboro branch. Went to pick up our rental and they had lost the keys to the only car they were renting us. 45 minutes later and I'm not happy so I had them cancel reservation. Both employees had serious attitude problems. Not one sorry or anything.. that is a poor way to do business. Went to a competitor got a bigger car and they matched our price. Never will use Hertz again.

Always the same answer...

Always the same answer... You'll have to wait bla bla bla Absolutely useless service... Hertz holds your deposit for ransom it's been 5 weeks so far... They Just don't care about the customer... Trying to rip you off at each and every opportunity..... Disgusting set of greedy people

AVOID Hertz/Thrifty at Málaga Airport!

They charged me approximately €615 and refunded only €162, leaving around €453 completely unexplained. We declined extra insurance, and the car was returned without damage. I feel misled and cheated. Their customer service has still not provided a proper explanation. Do not trust the price you are shown — you may be charged hundreds of euros extra.

Highly Dissatisfied Loyal Customer

I’m a President’s Circle member — have been renting cars weekly for months and have run into nothing but problems. Every time I go in, the guys at the counter say I don’t have status with the company. I show them on my app and in my profile that I do and they say it doesn’t reflect in their system. I just tried to redeem my loyalty points to book a car and last second, it gives me an error and now all my points are gone and it won’t let me rebook with the rewards I’ve earned. It told me to call to book and I’ve been on hold for 15 minutes. No end in sight. I’ve been given filthy cars, cars that have smelled like cigarette smoke, cars on empty. If you book with a 10% discount, it shows rentals at one rate. If you book with a 20% discount, the cars show up at a 20% markup per day. Pretty sure that’s considered price gouging, which is illegal. Despicable greedy company.

Trying to Scam me into paying for a totaled car, that was not damaged in my possession, sent me photos of a severely damaged car, 11 days later, refuses to send me any other info, only stating I have to pay for daily impound/rental fees, fees, lying stating I did not have collision damage coverage, VIR #93567, rental agreement 653220621,

Renters beware - Hidden Recurring Charges

Renters beware - Hertz 247 automatically enrol you in a subscription membership that automatically collects £5 from your bank card each year. It's not direct debit so you can't just cancel it that way. Very underhand and sneaky as it is almost impossible to cancel and is set at a low enough value that you hopefully don't notice it. There is no need for this charge and the membership does not give you any benefits therefore is little more than a sneaky scam to get money from you for years after your rental has finished. Hertz247 supposedly notify of this fee each year via email however were unable to provide proof that they had sent the email (just so I could check if it had gone in my junk). They also don't respond to emails therefore all records of cancellation are only stored on their system - meaning you won't have proof of cancellation. There is no need whatsoever for this charge (other than to scam money from customers) and can't understand why Hertz 247 don't just get rid of it as it is ruining the reputation of both Hertz247 and Hertz generally. At time of writing Hertz 247 have a Trustpilot score of 1.2, which is basically zero as you cannot give a score less than 1. (I intent to replicate this review on Hertz as it appears that Hertz are trying to endorse this practice by setting up the sub-company Hertz 247 so that they are not impacted by the bad reviews).

Unacceptable scam, forced extra payments, and terrible service at Alicante Airport

Unacceptable scam, forced extra payments, and terrible service at Alicante Airport Our experience with Hertz and Thrifty at Alicante Airport on July 20, 2026, was an absolute nightmare and a financial scam. We had fully paid for our car rental months in prior through Brilliant Holidays (booked during Black Friday and confirmed in Innsbruck, Austria). We arrived at the airport with a large family, heavy luggage, two children, and an elderly relative with health issues. To our shock, Hertz claimed our reservation was cancelled and redirected us to their subsidiary, Thrifty. There, they refused to honor our prepaid voucher and tried to force us into a smaller car that physically could not fit our family and luggage. When we tried to call the booking agent (Oxana / Brilliant Holidays), she was unavailable, and when she finally responded, she absurdly suggested we take a tiny car and drive back and forth twice! Because of their coordination and greed, we were forced to pay an extra 338.80 EUR (plus additional upgrade charges) out of pocket just to get a suitable vehicle (Peugeot Rifter) for our family. To make matters worse, despite having fully paid for baggage through our package, the staff tried to create chaos. We are documenting everything, including our official police report (Denuncia Atestado nº 16937/26), and will escalate this case to ECC-Net and consumer protection authorities. Avoid Hertz and Thrifty at Alicante if you do not want to be scammed and extorted!

I can’t believe Hertz is charging me…

I’ve been a loyal Hertz customer with Gold Member Signature Presidential status, and this experience has me reconsidering that loyalty. While driving on the interstate over the Bonnet Carré Spillway in Louisiana, I got a flat tire — a road hazard, not something caused by any negligence on my part. I pulled over safely, changed the tire myself, and put on the spare, just as any responsible driver would. Despite my status and despite this being an unavoidable road hazard, Hertz still hit me with a $98 charge. A basic flat tire repair does not cost anywhere close to that, and there was no clear explanation of what the fee actually covered. It feels like customers are being charged for things completely outside their control, regardless of loyalty tier. I expected better from a company I’ve stuck with for the “Presidential” level of service. This has left a bad taste, and I’ll be thinking twice before renting from Hertz again.

Dear Hertz Customer Relations,

Dear Hertz Customer Relations, I am writing to make a formal complaint regarding my recent experience attempting to reserve a PCO rental vehicle through Hertz. On your website, I made a reservation for a PCO vehicle for eight weeks, with collection scheduled for 28 July from your Marble Arch branch. The reservation appeared to be confirmed immediately, and I entered my credit card details for payment. However, several hours later I still had not received any confirmation email. I checked both my inbox and spam folder, but nothing had been received. When I returned to the website, the reservation confirmation had disappeared, leaving me with no reservation number or proof that my booking had been processed. I then attempted to contact Hertz for assistance. The first telephone number I found online, 020 7026 0077, was either incorrect or unavailable, and I was unable to get through. I then called another Hertz customer service number, 020 7723 5826. The representative informed me that this department only deals with standard vehicle rentals, not PCO rentals, and provided me with a different number for the PCO team. Unfortunately, the number I was given, 0843 309 3133, was also unavailable. I attempted to call it five separate times and each time received the same message that the number was unavailable. This experience has been extremely frustrating and raises several serious concerns: My reservation appears to have disappeared without explanation. I have not received any booking confirmation despite making the reservation online. I am concerned about the payment made using my credit card and whether it has been processed. It was unnecessarily difficult to find the correct contact details for the PCO department. The telephone numbers available online are either incorrect or unavailable, making it impossible to obtain assistance. I also raised my concerns regarding the confusing contact information during my telephone conversation, but unfortunately it did not appear that my feedback was taken seriously. I believe Hertz should review its website and customer support process. Customers should be able to make a reservation with confidence, receive immediate confirmation, and easily find the correct contact details when assistance is required. My experience fell well below the standard I expected from an international company such as Hertz. I would appreciate your urgent response addressing the following: What happened to my reservation? Has my payment been processed or authorised? Why did I never receive a confirmation email? Why are the contact details for PCO rentals so difficult to find, and why are the published numbers unavailable? I look forward to your prompt response and a satisfactory resolution. Yours faithfully, Cenk Arkin

Smooth rental process

I recently booked a car through Hertz for a weekend trip. I went to the ‘Rental Cars’ section and selected a compact car suitable for city driving. The booking form was easy to fill out, and I appreciated the option to add insurance right on the page. I opted for the Collision Damage Waiver since I was unsure about street parking in the city. When I arrived to pick up the car, I walked to the rental counter, and a friendly agent helped me within minutes. They checked my reservation and quickly mentioned that I could choose any car from the compact section. That flexibility was nice, so I picked a neat little sedan. Returning the car was straightforward. I just parked it in the designated return area and handed in the keys to an attendant. They checked the car for any issues but found everything in order. Overall, this was one of the easiest car rental experiences I’ve had. Minor hiccup: the parking lot was a bit crowded, but that’s understandable for a busy weekend.

Great experience renting a car

I booked a car through the reservations page to get to a family wedding in San Diego. I specifically selected the economy option because I wanted to save on gas. The check-in process at the airport was smooth. I used the kiosk, and it only took a few minutes to grab the keys. The car was clean and ready to go, which I appreciated. I had a minor issue with the GPS being a bit outdated, but the staff at the counter helped me update it within minutes. It made navigating easier that weekend. Returning the car was just as easy, and I was in and out in no time. Overall, I felt like I got good value and convenience from my rental, and I would use their service again for future trips.

HERTZ TO THE RESCUE

HERTZ TO THE RESCUE! We had booked a car through EasyJet that was passed to Europcar and declined with no notification. We were at Belfast airport and facing a 1.5 hour drive and were at risk of being stranded or facing a huge taxi bill. After dealing with a very rude lady on the Europcar desk we approached Hertz and the young lady on there was lovely. She sorted us out and we were able to rent a small car with her and the trip was saved. I didn’t get the persons name but she was amazing and sorted out a very stressful situation in no time at all. We will avoid Europcar at all costs in future and deal with Hertz direct.

Beware of additional charges

Check your invoice after your rental for additional charges When I made my reservation for a Hertz Car rental at Chicago O’Hare airport, I got a reservation confirmation email stating that the cost was going to be @ $404. After turning in the vehicle after the rental, the charge was @ $486. They had added some additional toll charges. I had to make numerous calls in order to get reimbursed the difference. They do not make it easy. I suspect they are doing this on purpose to make additional revenue in case you don’t check your invoice and/or just give up during the dispute process because it is taking too long. A couple of months ago they put on my invoice a fuel charge. It was then up to me to send in a receipt showing that I HAD filled up the car before turning it in. Again, more work for me to dispute charges that Hertz is adding to a bill after a rental. I feel like they are stealing from me. On the bright side, I did not have any issues with the vehicle that I rented. Renter beware of additional charges!

I have been a Hertz Gold Member because…

I have been a Hertz Gold Member because I believed the company valued customer service and loyalty. Unfortunately, my experience at the Will Rogers World Airport (OKC) location on July 4, 2026 completely changed that. I simply asked the Instant Return representative to confirm my final bill because my reservation was prepaid through Priceline and my vehicle upgrade was charged separately by Hertz. Instead of answering a reasonable question, I was met with a rude, condescending attitude and repeatedly told, “Obviously, it’s on your ticket.” When I questioned why she couldn’t help me, she called another employee over to stand beside her, making me feel as though I was being treated like a threat rather than a paying customer. To make matters worse, she intentionally checked in vehicles that arrived after mine while telling me she would “get with me in a minute.” I immediately reported the incident to the manager on duty, who showed little concern and offered no meaningful response. Weeks later, I still have not been contacted by Hertz. This wasn’t just poor customer service—it was disrespectful, humiliating, and completely unacceptable. As a loyal Gold Member, I expected professionalism and accountability. Instead, I was left questioning whether Hertz truly values its customers. Unless Hertz addresses this situation, I’ll seriously reconsider taking my business elsewhere.
